    Didn't follow the book

Well the movie was still good but for those of us that read the book there are missing key characters so don't be surprised if you do go...I am not sure about the creative team on this one if they were on a budget or just trying to keep the movie under 2 hours like the first movie in the Twilight series there may be hope if they don't skimp on the necessary details in the book to build these characters properly.

    I really enjoyed it

I have never read the book and I absolutely loved it! After seeing the movie I immediately googled the nearest Barnes & Noble so I could read the next book in the series because I want to know what comes next ASAP.

So much fun! Good versus evil and eautiful love story with complicated characters.

Wow. We totally LOVED this movie! What an excellent cast. The young couple, Ethan and Lena, are genuine, interesting, and complex. There is a scene which is very "Romeo and Juliet', but this couple has much more going on. Jeremy Irons and Emma Thompson are awesome as usual. The cousin, Ridley, is deliciously bad and so much fun to watch in action. This movie is a MUST SEE and one that we will be adding to our collection at home!

Probably better if you havent read the books...

Still it was a cute movie, some good one liners, and the guy that played Ethan was really good at it.

I was a bit upset how it deviated from the book in some key places, left out some characters, and CGI'd the main villian instead of giving her a separate actress.

Overall I'd say go and enjoy it for what it is: a cute love story with supernaturals and magic.

The movie wasn't bad but very disappointing!

I'm only putting so-so because it wasn't a bad movie but if you loved the books you may vote a OH NO!!! I loved all of the books. I was so excited to see the movie. Whomever made the movie completely and totally screwed up. Why change something as great as the book. They removed 2 great characters and tried to make it one person. Both characters in the book were a huge part of the story. I can't help but feel sad that it was nothing like I was expecting. BAD JOB!!!!!!

It's Different Than the Books, But Just as Good

My 14 year-old daughter and I saw Beautiful Creatures yesterday and loved it. Honestly, I think they needed to "dumb it down" for a general audience but the dialogue was still fresh and fun, the characters were well-rounded, and the plot moved quickly and often unpredictably. We both cried several times and laughed a lot, as well. It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

awesome if you didnt read the books

    by

The movie was a ton funnier then I thought it was going to be. the story was good and I think the execution was done very nicely. I was kind of iffy on the movie since it was adapted from a book, but since I didn't read the book both my wife and I enjoyed it very much. We are both going to read the books which I have read reviews on and are way better then the movie itself, but I hope they continue the series on the screen for the other three books.

    Good over all...

I loved it but I must say that it was different (in many ways) from the book but it's not a bad thing (in this case). If you haven't read the book I think you should, and if you haven't seen the movie then you MUST GO!

Sleepy at times, but well done overall

    by

I enjoyed this movie. The plot was interesting, and the actors were fantastic. If you have read the book, keep in mind that novels and cinema are two different genres. This movie was visually entertaining.

    good but dont read book

    by

Was a good movie, good actors and believeable charactors , and the action and special effects kept you interested, it jumped around a little and was hard to follow at times but eventually got into it, however my wife read the book and was totally confused with missing a couple of people from the book and some of the things they changed like wheres the black hertz funeral car, and whats with the rain and wheres marian? Other than that it was good.

    A Total Abomination

Let me start by saying I had no issues with the cast. The young lady who played Lena was very good, Ethan was totally adorable, and Viola Davis and Jeremy Irons were magnificent, as always. If you are a fan of the books like I am, you will find this movie appalling. Some idiot took a lovely, intricate story of life, love, and loss weaved together over the course of 4+ books and turned it into an hour and thirty minutes of pure crap. So much is wrong in the movie that it would probably easier just to indicate what they got right, and even that is a stretch. I hated this film and I sincerely hope they don't add insult to injury by making a second.

Excellent - never read the novels

I am an academic, I don't have much time for fictional readings. The setting and the characters were excellent!!! It felt so real, because the lead actors weren't hyper attractive (Like Twilight) and I didn't recognize them from other films. I loved the deep south feel and religious crazies (kind of like your tyipcal Stephen King religious crazy fanatics)

I would recommend this to anyone who wants o enjoy a good story with an excellent setting. I hope they continue the series.

If you haven't read the books than you will very much enjoy this, if you have then go with an open mind!!!!!!

    Beautiful Creatures

I really enjoyed this movie. You found yourself really pulling for the young couple. There was less of the special effects than I expected after watching the previews but that ended up really adding to this type of movie. I am already waiting for the next one. Well? I'm waiting!

    Walked out!!

    by

So maybe this movie might be palatable if you haven't read the books, however I doubt it. The acting is bad. The dialogue is bad. The directing is bad. If you are expecting to see a loved book come to life on the big screen, you end up being disgusted. The movie butchers the story. My fiance and I went looking forward to a cute movie, and after an hour and a half of suffering we finally decided to leave before throwing refreshments at the screen. There is little action, the attempts at comedy are pathetic with a mix of slapstick and third grade humor, and the supposed drama loses any effect with the abysmal acting. Save yourself the time and money, SKIP this movie.
