    Boring

    by

Admittedly, I have not read the novels. That said, the movie's plot was a little stagnant and boring. Only bright spot was the character of Ethan. His lines were funny at times. I would say avoid unless you are a fan of the series. Otherwise, I suggest you go elsewhere.

    "Twilight" with Witches

Weak story line contained in a slow, monotonous, often boring script delivered with generally terrible attempts at creating a lowcountry South Carolina accent. (Yes, I am a native South Carolinian.)

CGI effects were okay, but couldn't carry this film; a rather puerile attempt at "kiddie-Goth" in the genre of the painful "Twilight" series.

It's greatest asset is that there are no really significant new films out simultaneously.

If you have nothing better to do, go see it. Otherwise, wait for it to hit U-verse or cable.

    Beautiful Creatures

    by joegaby

We saw this movie on Valentines Day and we thoroughly enjoyed the movie. The acting by the young man in the lead role was very engaging. Loved the storyline. The movie was entertaining, can't wait to see the next movie.Cinematography was good. The directing could have been better. I would now like to read the book if there is a book. I would not want young
kids to view the movie because of the occult content. Can't wait to purchase the video.

    Better than expected

    by tildesk

I actually liked this movie. I was very hesitant but it was quite good. Remember folks, there is only SO much of a 563 page book you can put in an 2 hour movie. There are cliche moments, of course, but I really enjoyed it. Go see it.

    Disappointed

It was disappointing that the movie didn?t stay true to the book. The book was definitely more interesting then the movie. The movie left out so many important parts that if you never read the book you really couldn?t understand what was going in some parts. I did however like the actors that were chosen they did a great job.

Wait to watch it on TV when nothing else is on

    by

I was excited about seeing this movie but left the theater VERY disappointed! The writing & acting were horrible. In all fairness, the actors could only do so much with this horrible script. It was a great concept, but...

    NO NO NO

Went to see this movie the day after it came out. Loved the books. The movie was horrible. I would have liked to see all the books turn into movies but after this one I don't know if I would go see another one if they made it. So many crucial things were changed or left out all together. I was terribly disappointed. The biggest thing that turned me off to the movie was the removal of one of my favorite characters - Marian. In the books she is the librarian and integral to the story. In the movie she is combined with Ama's character and not well. The sisters(Ethans great aunts) were not in the movie either. Ethan and Lena could not speak telepathically. The locket was given little to no importance. The entire Ethan Carter Wate and Genevieve Duchesne storyline was mostly left out. The visions were all but non-existant. Linc shot Ethan and that is how he died in the movie. All in all, it was a total suckfest. There were vague similarities between the book and movie. Boo!

    ugh!!!

nothing like the book at all...they rewrote the entire script and left out parts that wouldve made the movie much better. How was Amma the librarian and the House keeper? Many people dont read these days anyways so they wont know

One of the Worse Adaptations I have ever seen.....

There is a huge difference between taking liberties with art and direction and changing a story completely. Combining "characters" when the 2 characters you are combining are both KEY to the story itself. I guess the only thing that it getting me through this is knowing that there will most likely not be a second book especially since that they put important elements of that book IN this movie.

It is really heart breaking to have something not only changed but the story at the center of it all changed. The core story of what made this book did not translate onto the screen. The only positives I can say AT ALL is that the actors all did a great job, Ethan in particular. He did a great job.

My advice is that IF you see this movie, voice your opinion at the end of it, I am sure the world would be interested. It made the Twilight franchise as a whole look like Oscar contenders.

    Beautiful Creatures

It was a very nice movie. Lots of tongue-in-cheek humor. Emma Thompson was a treat to watch.

    They BUTCHERED the books!

My husband and I love this book series, so we were excited for the movie. About 20 minutes into the movie, we said "Ooooh, no. This is NOT going to be good!" It wasn't. In fact, it was horrible. They left out KEY characters (Mariam, Hunting!) and they completely changed important parts of the story as well. Most of the characters did not at all look like how they were described in the book. Lena was supposed to have pure black hair, not reddish black. Ridley was supposed to have long blonde hair, not cropped red hair. Even Ethan was wrong. And, there were soo many little things wrong with the story as well... where Ethan found the locket, what day Lena broke the window, Amma not living at Wate's Landing, etc. In short, we were VERY disappointed with this movie. We were confused why the brilliant authors would let them destroy their story so much! We cannot recommend this movie to anyone. If you're interested in this fantastic series, audiobook is the BEST format! So beautifully done!!

Mangled, Poorly Written, Such a Waste...

    by andjax

I can't agree more with the people who wrote that this movie strayed so far from the source material that it hardly resembles the original.

Where were Amma's Voodoo charms protecting the house? Where was Dad or the ghost of Mom? Where were the great aunts? Marion? Where were Ethan's near heart attacks upon kissing? Where was the story? How will removing all these characters affect the sequels? It was almost like the movie makers knew it was so terrible that there would be no sequel.

Regardless of the book, the movie was badly written. At the beginning, Ethan asks if his father ever left his room and that's all you ever hear about him. The execution of the 'Lena gets kicked out of school' story line is poorly executed.

The worst part is that the actors are so much more talented than Robert Patterson and Kristin Stewart. They were so much easier to watch, especially the dude who played Ethan. He was charismatic and funny. Ridley was amazing.

    Such a shame.

    Beautiful Creatures

    by PA1971

Only saw the previews on TV so did not know anything about the movie until it started. I loved it. Reminded me of Twilight but witches and humans versus vampires/werewolves and humans. Would not take children to see it but teens to adults is fine.

    Want a Refund!

    by

So disappointed! Definitely a movie for 11-15 year olds. It didn't follow the book at all and things were totally altered. Ethan is not properly portrayed - Alden is way too goofy and feminine for the role as portrayed in the book. It felt like they threw the movie together (including the cast) from bits and parts of the book and thought it was good enough. Lets make a movie - yeah it done! I kept waiting for it to get better. It was agonizing sitting through such a horribly made film for such a great book!
