    Not much going on...

    by

It wasn't a bad movie per se, but it wasn't great either. I was constantly waiting for something exciting to happen and then the movie was over. I guess I just expected more magic action, as it was almost nonexistent.

    No tent pole here

I'm sure the producers were hoping their movie would be the start of a great trilogy based on these YA novels, but it is not to be. A strong supporting cast and nice production values cannot overcome the mediocre script or poor performance by the young leads.

    So So

Special Effects were great - the story line needs help- who came up with the name, "Casters" Some people don't speak well with a southern draw!

    I really enjoyed it

I have never read the book and I absolutely loved it! After seeing the movie I immediately googled the nearest Barnes & Noble so I could read the next book in the series because I want to know what comes next ASAP.

    Murph: The Protector

    by

This was a good documentary but it should have included the details of what happened in Afghanistan and the situation that caused Michael Murphy to do what he did there. If you are not familiar with that you miss a lot of understanding why Michael Murphy was awarded the highest award one can receive. Fortunately for my husband and myself we had read the book by the only surviving SEAL Team member prior to seeing this documentary movie.

    Not a Waste of Money

Did not read the book, but the movie was really entertaining. If you like fantasy things, i'd see it. Way better than twilight because the actors are pretty good, not anything on the oscar level, obviously. The hero guy was likable and the witch girl was not annoying. The movie was kind of like one of the better nicolas sparks books but with magic. Really funny jokes about pop culture.

It's Different Than the Books, But Just as Good

My 14 year-old daughter and I saw Beautiful Creatures yesterday and loved it. Honestly, I think they needed to "dumb it down" for a general audience but the dialogue was still fresh and fun, the characters were well-rounded, and the plot moved quickly and often unpredictably. We both cried several times and laughed a lot, as well. It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

    More!

    by

Loved the movie, now I went out and bought the whole series in books. Leaves me wanting to read more!

I read many of the comments before I went and I was not happy that so many people said it was not as good as the book and gave it a bad review. These people dont seem to understand a) not everyone will have read the book first to compare it to and b) just because a movie is based on the book, it does not make the book the manuscript for the movie. Books will always be better than the movie, but that is no reason to give the movie a bad review. To those people - repeat after me - THAT is HOLLYWOOD!

    Enjoyable love story

    by VAwitch

Knowing Alfre Woodard & Jeremy Irons made this one of interest, along w/ the magical aspect.

I enjoyed the film more than I expected. There were moments of humor that got good (appropriate) chuckles from the audience. Not too teen-angsty.

I kept thinking though, that I was looking at a relation of Leonard DeCapprio in the male lead.

    It was pretty good, considering.

Having never read the books, I can't say whether or not it's a true adaptation. Personally I liked aspects of the movie but hated others.
Most of the actors were really good. Jeremy Irons and Emma Thompson were spectacular as always. Emmy Rossum was a scene stealer. The girl who played Lena did a very good job as did the guy who played Ethan. The imagery was incredible from the sets to the costumes.
However, I feel that some parts of the movie were really choppy and not too well explained or slow. I honestly didn't want to see this movie at first. My friend dragged me to it, but it wasn't too bad. I've been dragged to other movies that were way worse (Twilight). This movie was infinitely better than Twilight because the characters were real and more believable and the actors were more talented. All in all it was a pretty good movie

    I loved it

    by jmooney

Whether I have read the book or not...I loved it. Ethan kept the comedy going in this sinister tale of romance, deception, and spells. I like these movies. I hope the next movie will be in production soon. I'm looking forward to all three books made into a movie. It might be a theme of Twilight but it's a good theme without the vamps. Also reminded me of a Romeo and Juliet too.

    So-so

I have seen the movie and rate it as so-so because the acting was so horrible it could have been real life instead of just a movie. People go to the movies to lose themselves in the story behind the movie and what's going on within the movie. The actors horrible accents and lack of chemistry on set through me off. But at the same time if you like feeling as though this could have actually taken place then this is definitely the movie for you.

if you read the books, prepare to be disappointed

they changed some key elements to continue with sequels, which i think they sabotaged themselves for. it was slow-moving, lacked real concrete plot in comparison to the books. even twilight had a better screenplay conversion the first time around, but it may be just me. ive been looking forward to this movie ever since they started filming last year and i was just disappointed by the screenplay as a whole.

if you didn't read the books, you will probably enjoy it. the plot is JUST okay for the lamen person.

    Didn't Want it to End

According to the people who read the book this doesn't follow the book; however, it was a great movie and I was startled when it ended because I wanted to see more of the story. The cinematography was pretty intense in some scenes. All the actors were great characters and brought the story to life - looking forward to the next one!

    So disappointed

I have read the Caster Chronicles and was excited when they were making it into a movie. Only this wasn't a movie, it was a caricature. Fake, contrived Southern accents? Check. Over the top stereotypical witches? Check. I don't think Emma Thompson had even read the book because she ruined the character. Ruined. And I like Emma Thompson. She seemed to be playing Professor Trelawney without the gypsy clothes and with a bad accent. Sarafine is not manic.... she's evil. And Thompson gave us manic instead. Jeremy Irons did a great job as Macon, but I don't understand why they needed to make him a Dark Caster instead of the Incubus he is/was. Anyone who had read the books would also know that if you were hoping for a sequel/franchise you absolutely cannot combine Marian and Amma into one character. I just don't understand why they changed so much just for the sake of change. The movie turned the story into a bad combination of Gone with the Wind and The Craft.
