Horrible adaptation, sequel would be abomination

This movie will upset anyone who read the book series. Changing the characters, changing the story and changing key scenes?
    Ethan never forgot Lena
Lena never sat there and read the book of moons
    Amma was not the librarian
(Amma was my favorite about the book, and that she cared so deeply about Ethan and cared for him like a grandmother would, cooking meals ect)
    Blonde Ridley? Lollipop?
    Reece?
    The sisters?
    Marian?
    Basketball?
    The song?
    GREEN EYES?
Macon being an incubus? Dark caster my ass
    Boo Radley!
    Going to NYU? Wth?
NO, NO,NO! Do not see this movie, and I will not be buying it on DVD. I want my money back

    Beautiful Creatures

Since I read the book, I had high hopes for this movie. I was mistaken because there was so much in the movie that was not anything like the book. I expect there to be a few things that aren't the same, but this movie was so different from the book that I almost had to wonder if it even had anything to do with the book. I must say, though, that I did enjoy the movie to the extent that I could.

    What happened? SPOILER ALERT

    by caksmom

If you have read the book, as many of us have, you expect the movie to follow it. As a movie viewer, you have to expect and understand that every page can not be put onto the big screen because that would mean and 2 day movie. However, I have to ask...DID THE SCREEN WRITER EVEN READ THE BOOK? I don't think they did. I think they asked someone in passing what the book was about and took about 10 minutes to understand and write a completely different movie with characters named after those from the book. I thought the acting was lacking, and the Ethan character kept smiling stupidly. There was no easy transition from "hey I like you" to "hey you're a freakin' witch!?" to "I love you and will never leave you". He had the same smile on his face the whole time. From beginning to end (why was he running in the beginning? Not in the book) to the end where she makes him forget about her? (also not in the book) What the...! Not good people, not good. Sorry, this was so disappointing.

Disappointing, regardless if you read the book or not.

This was disappointing all the way around, I havn't read the books but the movie lacked in all areas, it was too short to cover the type of story they wanted to convey. It was a waste of money, save yourself the time.

    Nothing like the book

This film is a mess!!!! I'm a huge fan of the series but the director of this film butchered this film. The characters back story was cut out, poor Amma's character was cut out and ya'll know she played a big part. This movie was completely different than the book. I can't believe the authors allowed there work to be destroyed like this. I hope the franchise ends here because I don't know how they'll be able to clean up the mess this first film has created.

    A Beautiful Film

I'll admit, I was expecting Twilight-lite when I bought tickets for my girlfriend and I. What we got was an imminently more believable and better crafted romance (and movie!). The two lead characters have incredible screen chemistry and the sleepy town in which the film is set comes across as some place you'd want to live. The music is absolutely phenomenal and the cinematography is top notch. A total pleasant surprise from front to back, including a twist ending that actually made sense and that I didn't see coming. I'm sure it won't reach Hunger Games or Twilight status, but not for lack of film here - this is easily the best of the "young adult" movies that has come out so far. Definitely see it in theaters.

    Beautiful Creatures

The movie was great! i especially loved Uncle M and Ethan the actors did a superb job. the only problem tho was that it did not follow the book quite as fluidly as it should and for those who havent read the book are missing out and for those that did read it, i felt i was lost a few times and had to think it through and say ok what part are we at now. but other than that it was great.

    More!

    by

Loved the movie, now I went out and bought the whole series in books. Leaves me wanting to read more!

I read many of the comments before I went and I was not happy that so many people said it was not as good as the book and gave it a bad review. These people dont seem to understand a) not everyone will have read the book first to compare it to and b) just because a movie is based on the book, it does not make the book the manuscript for the movie. Books will always be better than the movie, but that is no reason to give the movie a bad review. To those people - repeat after me - THAT is HOLLYWOOD!

    It was pretty good, considering.

Having never read the books, I can't say whether or not it's a true adaptation. Personally I liked aspects of the movie but hated others.
Most of the actors were really good. Jeremy Irons and Emma Thompson were spectacular as always. Emmy Rossum was a scene stealer. The girl who played Lena did a very good job as did the guy who played Ethan. The imagery was incredible from the sets to the costumes.
However, I feel that some parts of the movie were really choppy and not too well explained or slow. I honestly didn't want to see this movie at first. My friend dragged me to it, but it wasn't too bad. I've been dragged to other movies that were way worse (Twilight). This movie was infinitely better than Twilight because the characters were real and more believable and the actors were more talented. All in all it was a pretty good movie

    Amazing!

Before I start about the good stuff let me be honest. At first I thought the movie was going to be cheesy and stupid, but I was wrong. I loved the dialogue! The writers did a fantastic job. The actors brought the movie to life, when the movie first started I thought that the accents were bad and the actors were going to screw up the movie, but I never been so wrong in my life. These actors played their characters very well, we're I grown to stand the accent and love the characters. The movie is long though but it is the first movie , it's kinda like Harry Potter it has so much to explain but little time to do it, but it does do a good job explaining what people need to know so they can understand. I didn't know much about this movie and wasn't really planning on going, but I did and I don't regret it. If you go see this movie keep your mind open and remember it is long so be ready for that. I recommend to go see it! It's something different and new.

Stick to the book not the re-written script

This was all over the place, I have read all four of the books, and you cant leave out major characters. The acting was not that great, the movie jumped all over the place, I feel bad for people who havent read the books, I am sure they were totally lost. Do not waste your money and I will not see any of the follow ups if they are made.

    Beautiful Creatures

This movie was well scripted. The characters and events were believable. My daughter and I were "glued" to the screen the entire time. We already have plans to see it again and look forward to a sequel.

So much fun! Good versus evil and eautiful love story with complicated characters.

Wow. We totally LOVED this movie! What an excellent cast. The young couple, Ethan and Lena, are genuine, interesting, and complex. There is a scene which is very "Romeo and Juliet', but this couple has much more going on. Jeremy Irons and Emma Thompson are awesome as usual. The cousin, Ridley, is deliciously bad and so much fun to watch in action. This movie is a MUST SEE and one that we will be adding to our collection at home!

    I loved it

    by jmooney

Whether I have read the book or not...I loved it. Ethan kept the comedy going in this sinister tale of romance, deception, and spells. I like these movies. I hope the next movie will be in production soon. I'm looking forward to all three books made into a movie. It might be a theme of Twilight but it's a good theme without the vamps. Also reminded me of a Romeo and Juliet too.

Read the book, it's MUCH Better

I was beyond excited when I saw the preview for this movie. I decided I'd read the book since I love to read. After reading the book, my excitement levels sky-rocketed. Unfortunately, the movie did not live up to the book. The movie left out a lot of the little details that were in the book, important details. I did not like the movie!!!
