    A improved Twilight

I only read 54 pages of the book before seeing this powerful witch movie. I did notice a few changes right off the back, Emily loves Ethan for the first 15 minutes of the movie, but never mind that. Ethans dad isn't mentioned once. This story of witcraft largely relies on its two leads, which is good thing because Ethan and Lena have great chemistry. The link character is underused, but the movies villian played by Emma Thompston is perfect. She can go into other peoples bodies and uses powerful words. See the movie because of great characters and story. Its also has great special effects that make the 2hrs and 15mins worth while.

    Nothing like the book

If you've read the books and are hoping for a movie version of the interesting, funny and heartwarming love story of Ethan and Lena, you will not get it. The movie is so unlike the book that "loosely based" is generous. There are major plot changes, important characters missing, alteration of characters...it's just an entirely different story. On top of it, the casting was terrible. "Emily Asher" and "Link" were the only two characters cast fairly well. And, although Alden E. looks nothing like "Ethan Wate", he was adorable and likeable. Those three characters are the only thing that slightly saved the movie from absolute awfulness.

And the movie itself, even if I had not read the book, was confusing and poorly written. I READ the book and didn't understand the "curse" in the movie (especially because it was so different from the book).

Despite some good actors and a few funny one-liners, do not bother seeing this if you want to see the movie version of the book.

    Beautiful Creatures....Odd Title....

I enjoyed the movie overall, but I'm still slightly confused about how the title fits. I mean, certain members of the "immortals" were attractive, but that really had nothing to do with anything (except in Emmy Rossum's character). There were other small glitches in the story, weird things in the special effects (you can't see a glowing full moon in the middle of the day), and kinda cheesy acting moments (the spinning argument in the dining room was just too much). I thought Emma Thompson did a fantastic job, though. I think I enjoyed her the most, but I've always been a fan of her work. Emmy Rossum was funny and Alden Ehrenreich was endearing. Alice Englert got a little too melodramatic for me, though.

    Different than the Book

I think if you've read the book then you will be disappointed. I've read the book and one of the people I saw the movie with also read the book and we kept looking at each during the movie wondering why they made certain things different. I understand that some things from the book are just not possible but some things were seemingly changed for no reason at all. On the other hand, another person that was with us (a man) found the movie to be pretty entertaining. One thing we all agreed on was that the very end was pretty moving. While I didn't like the changes in the story they made to get there I still find myself thinking about the ending. Also, the accents are horrible but they grow on you or rather you get used to them. Though Ethan is not what I pictured in my mind when reading the books he is so darned charming that you can't help but fall in love with him just like Lena did. =)

    BEAUTIFUL CREATURES

This was the worst movie I have ever seen made from a book. The people did not fit. The story was ruined. Amma was not the librarian, The death of Macon was not done correctly.
The book of moon's was not found in that way. Lena drove a hearse. Important people were left out.
DID THE PERSON WRITING THE SCRIPT EVEN READ THE BOOK? I DON'T THINK SO. AND CERTAINLY NOT ANY OF THE OTHER BOOK'S. IMPORTANT PEOPLE WERE LEFT OUT.

ALL I CAN SAY IS TRASH.

IF YOU HAVE READ THE BOOK'S, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ON THE MOVIE, IT IS A REAL DISAPPOINTMENT.

Disappointed, but it was a so so movie

Went and saw this movie with my husband on Valentine's Day, and was extremely disappointed. Hubby liked it, but he didn't read the books. I read all 4 books and I think that's why I didn't like it as much. The books are so much better, than the movie. I went and saw it a second time with my mom last night, and thought it wasn't that bad. Is it better than Twilight or Harry Potter? No. Would I buy the movie? Probably, since I have the books. Those of you who haven't read the books, please watch the movie, before you read them. You will be disappointed by all the scenes that should have been in the movie, but were cut out or not filmed at all.

    WHAT THE IS RIGHT....

I agree with my BFF phlygyrl. That movie was straight garbage, I could not believe how bad it was. It was a COMPLETE hack job from beginning to the thirtysomething minutes we saw of it before we walked out. That's $11 and X amount of minutes I'll never get back. If you have read the books beware you may not like this movie. We could not sit through one more minute of the crap that we were watching. It's one thing to have a vision of the characters and to not agree with whom they cast but when the dialogue and screenplay do NOT even adapt the book. WTH? I was hoping this was going to be great from the previews but after what I watched, even the Twilight series was better and that's not saying much. In the 30 minutes we saw they had pieces from the middle and end of the book at the beginning in places that they did not belong. And really? How are Ethan and Amma in the study with no dad? He lives in there and nobody's allowed in. Chocolate milk anyone? Yah they forgot that too.

    Not true to the book

If you've read Beautiful Creatures expect to be disappointed. My granddaughter and I couldn't believe all the changes made to a book that both of us really enjoyed. If you have never read the book, you would probably like this movie. As a stand alone movie its a definite DVD rental. For those of you who've read the book, Lena and Ethan do not communicate with their minds in the movie, there is no Boo-Radley, Amma is also the keeper of the Caster Library, Lincoln is seldom seen and doesn't have his own band, The dance is mentioned but not portrayed, the showdown with the school board and Link's mom takes place in a church and only Uncle Macon shows up to defend Lena and in the movie this is when Sarafine reveals herself to Macon while in the guise of Link's mom, and in the end Ethan doesn't remember Lena and what happened on her 16th birthday. Disappointing.

    Horrible book adaptation

This movie was one of the worst book adaptations I have ever seen. The only thing that remained the same were the names of the characters and the movie title. If you loved these books, avoid this movie. I am angry that I wasted my money and time on it!

    Horrible!

One of the worst movies I have seen in a long while. No real story line and it was amazing they were able to fill so much time with nothing. Don't waste your time.

    Ouch. Nope!

    by Stinarz

I am unfamiliar with the book, but have an incredibly hard time believing that the contrived plot could be spun in a much better fashion. It is absolutely ludicrous, even for pure fantasy.

The characters are all unlikable and behave in a manner that defies any or all motivation.
There was literally one legitimate southern drawl in the entire cast. Thank you Viola. The other "accents" provided by the cast were insulting. Is this a new trend in film media- butcher the Southern dialect?

The delivery of character defining lines were abysmal. I audibly groaned in the theater during the "I collect poetry scene." Bad. Just bad. CGI was cheap and reminiscent of The Mummy".

The author must have a serious grudge against South Carolina to portray it in such a poor light. The people there apparently have the IQ of a mildly retarded river otter.

As I am typing this, this movie has a 6.1 rating on IMDB. This is so far from reality, it must be a troll.

I enjoyed it but I didn't read the book

    by

My friend and her daughter have read the book so they were so excited to see this movie. I told them that the reviews said people who read the book would be disappointed. Well they were right! My friends did not care for the way the story was told in film. I thought the movie was okay but I thought the editing could be better. The storyline seemed disjointed. but the plot was good and loved the special effects. My friend and her daughter now question if they will see anymore of these movies. Maybe they(directors) should have done it in 2 parts. That way they could have stayed true to the book. Just a heads up that if you want to read the book wait till after you see this movie! LOL

    Huge disappointment!!!

    by gg2223

Did the director or anyone involved with making this movie even read the book??? I have never seen such a bad adaptation of a movie , no creative license here, they totally removed all the creativity that the writer of the book created. Completely removed several key characters from the book as well as just about everything that made the book great, more like a frankenstein version of the book they chopped it all up, removed key elements of the story and just jumbled it back together very badly! There were so many great elements of the book where they could have done some amazing special effects and had an amazing movie, instead it turned out like a bad low budget B movie. I feel bad for the writer of the books, they totally butchered her work of art and her vision.
Read the book, DON'T waste your time on the movie!

If you have read the book...

If you have read the book you definitely do not want to see it. I went with a friend who hadn't read the book and really enjoyed the movie. But there are so many things that were changed to make the movie completely different from the book. I felt like I was watching a movie that just took bits and pieces from the book.
