    Unexpected surprise

I was very excited to see this movie but only because I thought it looked cute. To my surprise this fantastic production had me crying, laughing and on my seat with suspense. Love the mystery and twists. GREAT GREAT STORY!!!

    So much more than Twilight!

We were very entertained the entire movie. The cast is very good. The lead boy is absolutely worth watching. He steals the movie with his southern charm.
Came right home and downloaded the first book of the series.
    Highly recommend.

    Good over all...

I loved it but I must say that it was different (in many ways) from the book but it's not a bad thing (in this case). If you haven't read the book I think you should, and if you haven't seen the movie then you MUST GO!

    It's OK

I've never read the book so I'll take the word of my wife and daughter when they say the movie did not follow the book very well and made a number of unfortunate changes to the story.

For me personally, I left feeling I had just paid matinee prices for a made for TV movie.

The leading man, while having a nice smile, is too old for the part. Speaking of nice smile, it is used at every turn whether called for or not.

The leading lady at times turns in a performance that is rather disappointing to the point that her own cardboard cutout could have stood in for her.

The best acting comes from a somewhat over the top Emma Thompson and a seductive Emmy Rossum, both of whom sadly only shows just how bad the main characters were.

Jeremy Irons did what he does best, be Jeremy Irons with a different accent.

Sadly, I should have waited and seen this one on DVD instead.

Thankfully the family time involved made it worth it, even if the movie itself didn't,

    Meh

This was not too bad of a movie for people who have NOT read the book. For those who have, speaking for myself, I felt it could have been much better. It was as if the director's skimmed the book and transposed the 'gist' of it into a movie. I think they also had a low budget to work with which is why one of the main characters in the book (Marian) was not present and Amma filled two roles.

    Beautiful Creatures

I thought the movie was good. It was a bit long, but the storyline was good and I really liked the writers ideas for the story. I would say it is worth seeing!

    Live a Little

    by

I didn't want to see this movie at all. The previews for it looked decent, but the advertising for the movie, overall, was terrible. They could have done so much with advertising, but I get that they spent fifty to sixty million on the movie--wowza! The two main characters weren't well-known, which was taking a risk, but the story was sweet and quirky, sometimes sexy and dangerous. This movie lets the lady take control and leaves the guy trailing behind, something that doesn't usually happen in movies; I really appreciated the female-driven plot. At first, the accent killed me, but I didn't really notice once the movie got going. It's a good movie to see, end of story. I just hope that viewers will give the two lead characters a chance and actually get to theaters, even if it's only because they were drawn in by secondary characters. Let's hope for more of the series!

If only everyone had read this book...

    by

So I just got back from the movie and I have to say this was a severe letdown! As one who has read the book, I have to say the screenwriter wasn't even close. I think he skimmed the book, picked scenes, and then made up the rest. It was horrible, characters were missing - the whole "mystery" and coming of age story was gone. The plot was just WRONG. It got to the point that the story was so inaccurate that I actually wanted to walk out, which I have never done. Talk about "civil liberties" being taken. Even if you didn't see the movie, the jumping around was confusing.
Now, I'm NOT blaming the actors. To be honest, if they had been given a proper script and followed the actual novel, I think this would have been amazing. I don't know whats going on in writer's heads nowadays. If we can sit through Lord of the Rings, Twilight and Harry Potter - scripts that are extremely close to the books - we can sit through an accurate retelling of this. You just lost a franchise buddy!!

    VERY DIFFERENT from the book!

I didn't like the choices of actors for the characters of the book. I really didn't like that they "merged" characters - the housekeeper and the librarian! Ethan's elderly aunts, the dog Bo Radley, and Ethan's father were never seen. That doesn't even cover so many changes that the screenplay made in the story. I'd really like my money back on this one.

    ~Creative~

I was a bit bistowded by this movie, because it has suspense built up by the end, and I was hoping for a typical ending for any movie. Nooo it was a mind bender, due to- possible sequel's. I don't know but overall yes great movie! I did enjoy the costumes, the art, the history of the civil war, and the actors + actresses. Go see, if willing to wait for a movie sequel . I not sure I liked that I might need to wait to know what really happens. Left me completely wondering.

If you read the young adult novel.....

The movie was enjoyable. If you read the book, take what you know out of your mind and just enjoy this love story. I would watch this magical film again.

    Very repetitious

The plot took so long to build up to the climax, it got boring and monotonous. It would have been a good TV movie of the week. The acting and special effects were OK, but it needed a better and more concise story. I have not read the book and after seeing this I will not.

    Beautiful Creatures

Since I read the book, I had high hopes for this movie. I was mistaken because there was so much in the movie that was not anything like the book. I expect there to be a few things that aren't the same, but this movie was so different from the book that I almost had to wonder if it even had anything to do with the book. I must say, though, that I did enjoy the movie to the extent that I could.

    BIG Disappointment

I have read all of the Caster Chronicles. With that said, I was looking forward to the movie. I was so disappointed. The movie is SO FAR from the book,it was painful to watch. Characters were omitted, some combined. The story line completely made no sense any longer. The direction was lacking, sound terrible, lighting awful. They must have spent all the money on having Jeremy Irons in the movie who was the only bright spot. Anyone who has any kind of attachment to the book should not see this movie!
