3D only makes it look old
Remember the first time you saw 'Jurassic Park'? Mind-blowing, right? Well, twenty years on it's back. But seeing it in again, even in 3D, just reminds us how far the technology has advanced. Watching JP now reminds me of seeing that car I lusted after when I was sixteen, but now, two decades later, I see the same car and realize what a jalopy it really was. Now, JP isn't exactly a jalopy, but it does show its age, and without the eye-popping FX distracting me I can see the underlying weaknesses of the story. At the end, it is a strangely Luddite film, not so subtly denouncing the very technologies that made it possible. The acting is one-dimensional (although watching Sam Neill shake as he gets his first glimpse of the dinos remains a treat). And the story is utterly ludicrous: why makes animals that can kill you with one swipe, then give our heroes nothing more than a shotgun? Might as well have been a steak knife.
I give this tired old bird ***.
