    Ehh...

Broken City was very slow in parts, especially making it to the climax. It was hard to keep up with all of the characters by name because they weren't explained enough or their parts were too insignificant to pay attention to. I was particularly disappointed with the ending - it definitely could've been better. The actors were played pretty well. All in all, I would recommend waiting until it comes to Redbox.

Go See Broken City! No, Go see it!

    by

A very solid crime thriller, with terrific performances from everyone in the cast.

Lots of twists that, though at times made the plot convoluted, were no less fun and surprising in some cases.

It was great to see Catherine Zeta-Jones back and in fine form, vamping it up as Hostettler's (sp?) wife.

It's a very good movie. Go see it!

    Great Cast But Uninspired Roles.

    by

My husband and I just got back from watching the matinee viewing of Broken City. Though we somewhat enjoyed it while watching, I think perhaps it was because we were anticipating the movie developing into more than it was.

It is a story told a hundred times before with characters seen in countless movies. Wahlberg is a far better actor than we saw in this movie. I was unimpressed albeit mainly due to the boring character he played. Zeta-Jones' character could have been played by any actress. Neither her level of talent nor her exquisite beauty was required for her character to be adequately portrayed. Her talent was wasted. Crowe was totally unbelievable, perhaps due mostly to the ridiculous haircut his makeup artist decided was right for him. (No man with that haircut would EVER be elected mayor of ANY city. lol) Pepper. a highly underrated actor, stands alone as the only exceptional performance in the movie. Too bad he didn't have a bigger role.

    Wait for the DVD.

    Another New Yorker

This movie was really slow and boring, its the same ol same ol, beating up people, etc. It seems like all films about New York City now are just out of line and have gone astray from making the film interesting and fun to watch. Although it shows how powerful ignorant, arrogant, and hypocritical people in power eventually fall into ruins with great humiliation, embarrassment, and distress. Fiction in movies like this are a reality in the real world now a days. Theres no escape for justice, eventually the criminal will get caught. The saying goes "you can run, but you cant hide." Two great actors (Mike Whalberg, and Russell Crowe), however this movie was pointless to watch, I was having doubts about this one before watching it. Its hardly even worth watching it just once if anything at all. The best film that I know of filmed in New York, was "The Interpreter," with Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn.

    Broken City, Broken Script

It was very predicatble and seemed to feed off of classic Walberg movies with a lot less action and not enough intrique to make up for it. Actors were great but the script was weak.. Directing was just above adequate.

Wahlberg + crowe = great dramatic thriller!

I was really looking forward to broken city mainly because i'm a huge mark wahlberg fan and the trailer was really good so i am happy to say that broken city did not let me down. Now i'm not say this movie is the best dramatic thriller ever but it is above average and thats why i gave it a go. The cast is beyond amazing with the likes of mark wahlberg, russell crowe and catherine zeta-jones they're really what makes this movie above average. The direction is fine i didn't think it was mind blowing but there were some parts i really liked when it came to the direction. The characters are also good but the two that i really liked were mark wahlberg's and his kind of sidekick in the movie russell crowe was decent but nothing special. Something also worth mentioning is the music i thought it went well with the movie but it wasn't special but i think it helped the movies pace. I enjoyed broken city and i'd suggest it for an above average crime drama thriller. 8/10

Not hard to sit thru, but nothing great

    by Gem1836

Standard TV style yarn with good acting, fair writing. Nothing bad will happen if you go. Nothing bad will happen if you miss it.

    Broken City

Very disappointed, boring and all over the place. With so many good actors you would think somebody would have said, "No, this sucks!" Just too much wasted time that lead to weak plots and predictable thrills. When the so call thrill builds up (lame), it leaves you wamdering now the real action is going to take place. Not! A couple of times when I looked around it seemed 40% of the movie goers were asleep. I feel cheated. All the hype for what? This so called movie should have never made it to the big screen. FLOP!

    Broken Movie

Broken City is a poorly directed and written movie. They should hand you a flow chart of characters with names and what role they play. It's hard to follow the story line. Wahlberg and Crowe are good actors.but this was not their best movie by far. The rest of the cast are not up to speed with the movie. The story left gaps and the director expects the audience to follow what he is trying to convey. I wouldn't waste my time with this movie. Their were 10 people in the theatre watching this movie when I attended. Save your money and stay home.

    AWESOME MOVIE!

I consider myself a movieaholic and can be quite critical. I went into this movie having no idea what it was about or who was really in it, never saw a trailer. Man oh man, what an AWESOME flick! A nice political/murder thriller with lots of twists and turns. Love that kind of genre, gotta use your brain. Well scripted and acted, very entertaining. Totally blown away by this surprise gem!

    Broken City

I liked it. The acting was great. The movie had a few twists that I didn't expect. Didn't have the usual expected ending so it made the movie seem like it was based on a true story. Which It wasn't, All said and done it held my attention the whole time, I'd see it again.

    Occasional Movie Goer

Enjoyed the realistic use of greed, political corruption, weak moral character, and the difficulty of recognizing, even among friends and colleagues, those that use and misuse their friends, acquaintances and positions and those that finally respond to truth and the greater good.
My friend and I enjoyed a long conversation following the movie. It stimulated several areas of disagreements and agreements.
The characters were believable and well played.

    Broken City

The movie was fine but seriously compromised by the absolutely horrible seats. If the seats hadn't been so bad, then I think I would have enjoyed the movie even more. Two of my favorite actors was hard to pass up! I got a little lost when trying to connect the dots, but, in general, I liked the movie and acting.
