    Broken Movie

This movie had a lot of potential, with good acting and story line, but was limited by poor writing and by one thing that can make a good movie great - the music. There were also a lot of distracting technical errors and dialogs that weren't believable. 'Broken City' had the appearance of a movie made by someone who was either a novice, or someone who just didn't care very much about the final product. It's not a bad movie. Just not as good as it could have been.

    Broken City

I thought this movie (the storyline) was good, although a little confusing in spots. I appreciated that it was done well, without detailed graphics being done in most of the shootem-ups.

    Broken City

The movie was fine but seriously compromised by the absolutely horrible seats. If the seats hadn't been so bad, then I think I would have enjoyed the movie even more. Two of my favorite actors was hard to pass up! I got a little lost when trying to connect the dots, but, in general, I liked the movie and acting.

    Another New Yorker

This movie was really slow and boring, its the same ol same ol, beating up people, etc. It seems like all films about New York City now are just out of line and have gone astray from making the film interesting and fun to watch. Although it shows how powerful ignorant, arrogant, and hypocritical people in power eventually fall into ruins with great humiliation, embarrassment, and distress. Fiction in movies like this are a reality in the real world now a days. Theres no escape for justice, eventually the criminal will get caught. The saying goes "you can run, but you cant hide." Two great actors (Mike Whalberg, and Russell Crowe), however this movie was pointless to watch, I was having doubts about this one before watching it. Its hardly even worth watching it just once if anything at all. The best film that I know of filmed in New York, was "The Interpreter," with Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn.

    worth seeing

    by tnb7770

A little hard to follow the dialog at times but a very good mystery type film with some excellant acting, particularly, as usual, Russell . He is fascinating to watch as a sleezy politician. And who doesn't like Catherine Zeta-Jones? Geez Loiuze!! She gets more beautiful every year!!!!

    Great cast, but so-so movie

    by JAL46

I went to see Broken City based on the outstanding cast, especially Mark Wohlberg, Russell Crowe, and Catherine Zeta-Jones. They were wonderful. However, the picture itself was not as good as I expected. I had difficulty following parts of the story, and it did not hold together at times. However, overall it was a worthwhile experience. Not for kids - too violent.

    Not great but entertaining

    by

I feel like I spent the whole movie waiting for it to get better. It was a usual cop type movie which I enjoy though so it wasn't horrible. My wife went in whining and complaining because she doesn't like Russell or Mark, but she left the theater saying that it wasn't bad. There are some holes in the plot that I think if filled with another 15 or 20 minutes of movie would have greatly improved it overall. I give it a 6/10. It was very close to being a 7 though and I think I would enjoy watching it again.

    Broken City

I liked it. The acting was great. The movie had a few twists that I didn't expect. Didn't have the usual expected ending so it made the movie seem like it was based on a true story. Which It wasn't, All said and done it held my attention the whole time, I'd see it again.

Not hard to sit thru, but nothing great

    by Gem1836

Standard TV style yarn with good acting, fair writing. Nothing bad will happen if you go. Nothing bad will happen if you miss it.

    AWESOME MOVIE!

I consider myself a movieaholic and can be quite critical. I went into this movie having no idea what it was about or who was really in it, never saw a trailer. Man oh man, what an AWESOME flick! A nice political/murder thriller with lots of twists and turns. Love that kind of genre, gotta use your brain. Well scripted and acted, very entertaining. Totally blown away by this surprise gem!

    Ok movie

There was not as much action as I would have liked to see. Love love love Mark in this movie. Can't wait to see him and the Rock in Pain and Gain!!

    Intensity!

This is the kind of fast-paced action that love. Nobody is who you think they are and Wahlberg beats the living snot out of people. If you enjoyed Contraband and Shooter, this one is a MUST.

3 Star rating out of 4

It was a girl's night out with my 2 friends. We enjoyed the dinner and drinks more than this movie at our local threater. This movie was slightly difficult to follow at times, because I could not remember all the character's names. I was surprised by the plot only in a couple of places (which I liked), and thought that the ending was going to be different for a short time. I would seriously wait until it comes out as a DVD. It is not for children, because of the partial nude sex scene. The acting was good, but the screenplay writing was hard to follow. I wonder what parts of the original movie they edited? I would rent it again for my husband and I to watch at home. We should have seen the Silver Lining...oh well, it was only $14.50 in this dinner theater! The seats were very comfortable and who could complain when you are with friends and drinking a glass of wine!

Not as good as I had hoped

The movie stared off way too slow and at times a bit confusing. It took an hour for some real action to kick in, but even after that it fizzled. Not worth my time, for I found myself thinking that I could have been watching something else at the theater.

RUSSELL CROWE PLAYS A TAINTED NEW YORK CITY MAYOR IN THIS EXTREMELY AVERAGE FILM.

Russell Crowe, sporting the banged ?Nero? look, plays the slimy, mendacious, feckless Mayor of New York City, running for re-election; it will take years to erase Crowe?s insipid performance in ?Les Miserables? ; gone is the grit of ?John Nash? in ?A Beautiful Mind?, poignancy of ?James Braddock? in ?Cinderella Man? or the mettle, dignity of ?The Gladiator?. Disguising his Australian accent with a tainted, New Jersey dialect, he squeezes the maximum sleaziness out of his untoward character...
The Mayor matches wits with the police commissioner; Jeffrey Wright gives a scintillating performance; the screen simmers with his presence; unfortunately their moments together are too infrequent...

    TWO & 1/2 STARS!!
