    Great story of human perseverance!

Helps people see the importance of family in this day and age when everyone is locked into their separate electronics ... when terror strikes, family means so much! Will this start a new genre of film around dealing with the contemporary natural disasters we are seeing due to climate change?

    intense! you'll need kleenex

knew it would be intense but wow! it's just emotional...especially the kids who were great. you know 'the story'. tsunami comes and leaves destruction in it's wake. reminds you how small we are in relation to the earthly forces. special effects/set were amazing. cant figure out how they did all that water creation. you feel like you're on the journey with them. defintiely go see it

    Spectacular!!!

Not a dull moment in this movie. Guaranteed "Weeper" film but all worth it at the end. Treat yourself and your loved ones to this truly amazing true story.

A movie that defines the Tsunami experience

For folks who have gone thru any type of family loss, or have had traumatic events their lives, this movie will definitely connect with you. The depiction of the fear, love and compassion are excellently done. This movie, to me, is the definitive one for giving you a feeling of what it must have been like during the Tsunami, similar to how Saving Private Ryan does that for the landing at Normandy. At times a stressful movie to watch, but, at least for the family, has a positive ending...

    The Impossible

Excellent movie.I would give it 3 stars for adults. Some of the scenes were very realistic and somewhat gruesome. For those of you who have a tough time seeing people suffering and dying on screen, this is a film you may want to take a pass on.Therefore, I would not recommend this film for anyone under 13 without parental permission and/or supervision. The cimematography and special effects are seamless and the film puts you right in the POV of those trying to survive a tsunami near a coastal shore in Thailand.Casting was excellent and even the children's performances were top notch.

    great and amazing

This movie was everything I hoped it would be. Amazing footage of getting caught in tsunami. I really could almost feel being tossed by the waves. Great personal story that we all can identify with. Hard to find words.

Not bad... But I wouldn't reccomend it.

I think the movie was a little to drawn out. Although I thought there were some scenes that were very good and emotional there were some scenes that were very boring. Overall the thing I didn't like about the movie was it was too graphic in the medical scenes for me. I had to shield my eyes a few times.

Thought provoker. Every parent should see this movie, but not for the faint of heart.

If you want a movie that will cause you to reflect on your priorities in life and to want to embrace your family and never let go, then this is the film for you. I have never cried so hard in a movie before, actually wailing out loud, almost uncontrollably. While the movie was difficult to watch, the tears came from a place of love and gratitude and compassion that caused me to feel fully human and alive, touching me to the core, especially as a mother, and it felt wonderful to realize how deep the ties that bind us can be, as a domestic family, and as a human family. I must admit I had to turn my head 2 or 3 times at the more disturbing or graphic scenes, but there was enough warning that they were coming that I was able to close my eyes before I saw too much. I think the movie, while focusing on the hope of this particular family, also fairly represented the destruction and life-shattering affects on the citizens of Thailand, & opened my eyes to the needs of the rest of the world.

    Bring kleenex!

Great acting by both MacGregor, Watts and the children. The one thing that I could have done without? Seeing just about the entire movie in the trailer. I knew the storyline from beginning to end from watching the trailer. Don't do that!

    Amazing

I twisted my family's arm's to go see this with me. My husband and two teenage children. I knew that it would be sad as well as inspiring, even before i read any reviews. In today's day and age, we are all moving fast and there are many days that we miss what life is really about. Certainly, what should mater the most and matter first. Everyone gave me a hard time about going, and they where routing for a comedy. Again, i knew that we would all gain something inspiring from this & well needed. All i can say is my kids both seemed to truly enjoy it & my husband even shed tears. Of course, i bawled! As with many possible tragedies in life, just makes us think and care more about each other and this world we live in. You wont regret going.

    Amazing

This was an incredible story done by incredible film makers. I don't know why the film makers felt everyone had to be English though - the true story was about a Spanish family. Aside from that oddity, I found this to be one of the best movies I've ever seen, even if the story is tremendously sad.

    The Impossible

    by wohl62

Despite knowing the story line, it seemed realistic enough. However, the screams and howls and the loud yelling for the "missing people" were a little too much for an older person's ears. The acting was fairly good but, frankly, I thought the oldest boy should have been nominated for an Oscar and not the female lead. It's something to be seen but, if you miss it and pick it up on Netflix, you wouldn't lose too much except, possibly, the expansive scenery.

    Powerful!

If I didn't know this was a true story, I would have thought this film was totally implausible and could never have happened in real life. What a memorable, touching and moving film. The director gives us a very vivid picture of the true magnitude of this disaster. The special effect of the enormous wave hitting the island was incredible.
