    Powerful!

If I didn't know this was a true story, I would have thought this film was totally implausible and could never have happened in real life. What a memorable, touching and moving film. The director gives us a very vivid picture of the true magnitude of this disaster. The special effect of the enormous wave hitting the island was incredible.

Its heart wrenching but a must see...Its to often that we take life, family, and our love for one another for granted - Its not till we lose someone do you realize the importance of our bonds this family showed the power of love, determination and courage ... What a true blessing to see ...

    The Impossible

    by wohl62

Despite knowing the story line, it seemed realistic enough. However, the screams and howls and the loud yelling for the "missing people" were a little too much for an older person's ears. The acting was fairly good but, frankly, I thought the oldest boy should have been nominated for an Oscar and not the female lead. It's something to be seen but, if you miss it and pick it up on Netflix, you wouldn't lose too much except, possibly, the expansive scenery.

life before, during and after tragedy

I'm one week late writing this review; however, I must say, that's it's a good film. I can't imagine myself being unfortunately caught up in a natural disaster while in a foreign country, but that's what happened to this family here. Surviving the tsunami is one thing; finding your family is another. It was stunning to see the devastating destruction - the special effects was sadly impressive. Let go of the trivial things in life. Don't sweat the small things. Great meanings from this film.

    B-

The first 30 minutes were mind-blowing as the Tsunami, and the ensuing events, were shot impeccably. Unfortunately, I found the rest of the movie ho-hum. Ok acting all around and some harrowing moments throughout, but couldn't match the first act. Worth seeing for the cinematography.

    The Impossible

    by RNfan

It is amazing how the actors were able to convey so much emotion and "fill the screen" with very little dialogue....the director was able to move from TV coverage to filming almost seamlessly...it was a miracle of a movie about a real-life miracle of one family surviving such complete devastation.... agreat film, but not for young children who would react to the obvious scenes of death and mangled, bleeding people...

    great and amazing

This movie was everything I hoped it would be. Amazing footage of getting caught in tsunami. I really could almost feel being tossed by the waves. Great personal story that we all can identify with. Hard to find words.

    OMG! SUCH A FANTASTIC MOVIE

I haven't seen a movie this good in so long. It's a tear jerker for sure. I'm definitely going to see this movie again, no questions asked.

Impossible to watch and have dry eyes!

    by

This movie was a heavy one. You really got a sense of what it would have been like to experience a tsunami. The acting was superb. The boy who played Lucas should get an academy award. He stole the movie. Don't see this if you want a fun movie, but don't miss it either.

    Title fits it well

    by suefy76

This movie really makes you think about what the important things in life are. If you're in the mood for a tear-jerker then this is the movie to see. When you are watching it you need to remember it's based on a true story and that makes it even more dramatic.
I would recommend this for anyone.
There were two grown men sitting next to me when I went and they were just as stunned as I during the entire film and sat in silence as the credits rolled.
A must see in my book.

    EPIC

If Naomi Watts is overlooked for the Oscar for that child Jennifer Lawrence, I will be pissed. She deserves an Oscar more than any woman in recent memory for this role. WHat that must have taken out of her as a mother....stunning performance. AMazing experience that will always haunt me

A Powerful Movie and a Powerful Story

I really don't know how they made this movie (i.e., special effects); parts of it are so horrific. It made a tremendous impact on the whole audience in the theater where we watched it, and parts are VERY sad -- even more so because its' true -- but it's a wonderful story of family devotion to one another! The cast was wonderful; Naomi Watts gave an Oscar-worthy performance, as did the young actor who played her son Lucas.

    FANTASTIC!!!

    by

At last, a very well told story supported by great special effects and good acting. I think Naomi Watt's leg needs to get an award or something. That thing had a life of its own. :)

    Great story of human perseverance!

Helps people see the importance of family in this day and age when everyone is locked into their separate electronics ... when terror strikes, family means so much! Will this start a new genre of film around dealing with the contemporary natural disasters we are seeing due to climate change?

    The Impossible

A stunning and sensitive portrayal of a harrowing experience. The Impossible is truly a metaphor of life and thought provoking. The acting of the youngest son was amazing for a child that age. Kudos to the coaches. We need more movies like this one. It was so authentically presented that I frequently thought I was watching a documentary.
