The Movie Lives Up to the Title

I've seen all the big movies this season, and this by far is one of the most exceptional films of them all. The fact that it is a TRUE story and the family was very involved in the making of it makes it all the more powerful. It is the only film I've cried during this year, the only one worthy of tears honestly. The 2004 Tsunami ripped apart the islands of Indonesia, but this movie is about the love the wave couldn't ripe apart. It is magical and moving and makes you very aware of the power of love and hope and really makes you question the materialist world we live in and what really matters. Excellent! Powerful! Impossible to forget!

    VERY EMOTIONAL

    by

A heart-wrenching true story. The special effect are excellent at helping you feel some as-semblance of the horror that was experienced that day. I beautiful story and great movie

    The Impossible

I decided to pass on seeing this movie since the "Big" thing to do here lately is to put movies out in "Select" theaters. If you really want people to see these movies & make money, quit putting movies out in "Select" theaters. I refuse to drive over 2 hours just to see a movie!! We were really looking forward to this movie, just to have another let down. With the price of gas & travel time, it definately is not worth going to see this movie!!!

    IMPOSSIBLE IMPOSSIBLE TO SIT THROUGH

    by aly1dar

Firstly, the direcion was so heavy handed. Trying to be symbolic ( ending scence during her operation and the reinactment of her trauma ) and then the loud sounds to make you jump ( flight attendant closing the door of the plane at the end ) and then the "sappy violin score " and the heavy make-up and on and on. AND THE MOST ANNOYING PART WAS - Why wasn't the father and two younger sibling's story of what happened to them during the tsunami - and how THEY SURVIVED !. I also felt for the yound actors to be subjected to acting in this tragic movie. It was too much for me to stop thinking about their well being and mental state. And, lastly, I will read the book ......................why? Because I like truth and not " hollywood slanting"

    Movies are for entertainment

I love movies that you can really sink your teeth in. This is not one of those. Very good effects, acting, editing, cinematography.......but it is a movie of survival, and it gets to be pretty disturbing.....I didn't see much entertainment element to it, but many disturbing images.

    Naomi Watts is Incredible!

Its truly an amazing movie to watch. Naomi Watts better get some award for being in this movie. Her character is so strong and goes through so much that it touches your heart. I have seen the movie TWICE! Cried both times. Once with my bf (he cried too) and my mother. Its a story that needed to be told and I am glad it was.

'The Titanic of the 21st Century'

    by

So, I watched Juan Antonio Bayona's (The Orphanage) 'The Impossible' in English (not that it made a big difference after watching it in Spanish), and once again, never has a drama movie moved me like this one. What James Cameron did with 'Titanic' (1997), Juan did with this film. In both cases, the films are based on real events. The film centers around one family, who miraculously survived the ordeal in real life, and how they fought to survive the tsunami. The whole cast who portrayed the family members were incredible with their respective roles. It's a must see. How far would you go, if you were in their situation? I can easily call this film 'The Titanic of the 21st century', one of the most powerful films I have ever seen. An emotional roller coaster.

    Upside Down Bell Curve?

    by edfinn

This movie exists as an upside down bell curve on the SAD/HAPPY scale.

That is, in most good films, most of the time is spent somewhere near the middle, with frequent excursions into really sad or really happy territory. "The Impossible" reverses this, spending the large majority of time swooping between great joy and sadness, with scant time spent lingering anywhere near the non-emotional, neutral area in the middle.

Hope this made sense. This is a great film. A must see. Everything about it is compelling and brilliantly crafted. (See it on the big screen for full emotional wallop.)

    An Awe Inspiring Story

    by

Only God could have made this happen and apparently HE did...It's a TRUE story. It makes me want to thank and praise God all the more. Great acting and the re-enactment was too true to life. I cried and my husband...O well, he's a man.

    A Gripping Tale of Survival

The impossible is a true survival story revolving around a family of six who become the untimely victims of one of the worst natural disasters in recorded history, the 2004 Tsunami of Thailand. The film opens with a local family lounging on an island beach resor when the impossible occurs, a freak tsunami wreaking havoc and destruction. In the wake of the aftermath, the family finds themselves on a perilous journey to reclaim what is lost. It's a hearbreaking tale of lost, tragedy, and triumph against the odds. For those seeking a tearjerker genre, this film is the place to be.

    Touches on every emotion!

    by

This film frightened me, dazzled me, brought me to tears, and left me with a good feeling when it was over. The acting was superb and the special effects were simultaneously realistic and artistic. Well done!

    THE IMPOSSIBLE

Outstanding movie in every way. Naomi Watts gives a spectacular and stunning Oscar style performance. The cast is perfect right down to the littlest child. The special effects are wonderfully done in a way that you feel you're right there yourself. It is a moving and emotional film that will bring a tear to your eyes in parts. I can't say enough good things to you that would convince you to go. This is a true story about a real family and how blessed they were to survive the hell of that day. The makeup is so realistic you believe their injuries are real. Wonderful story line and every actor gave a superb performance. Other than one other movie this year, the best assembled cast in a movie. I can't see how the director or the screenwriter could have made this film any better. It is as close to perfection as any movie could be. PLEASE go and see this film. You will be moved and see what true dedication and love is between a mother, father and their children. Again, a spectacular movie

    Title fits it well

    by suefy76

This movie really makes you think about what the important things in life are. If you're in the mood for a tear-jerker then this is the movie to see. When you are watching it you need to remember it's based on a true story and that makes it even more dramatic.
I would recommend this for anyone.
There were two grown men sitting next to me when I went and they were just as stunned as I during the entire film and sat in silence as the credits rolled.
A must see in my book.

    EPIC

    by joe3136

If Naomi Watts is overlooked for the Oscar for that child Jennifer Lawrence, I will be pissed. She deserves an Oscar more than any woman in recent memory for this role. WHat that must have taken out of her as a mother....stunning performance. AMazing experience that will always haunt me
