    The Impossible

    by RNfan

It is amazing how the actors were able to convey so much emotion and "fill the screen" with very little dialogue....the director was able to move from TV coverage to filming almost seamlessly...it was a miracle of a movie about a real-life miracle of one family surviving such complete devastation.... agreat film, but not for young children who would react to the obvious scenes of death and mangled, bleeding people...

Not bad... But I wouldn't reccomend it.

I think the movie was a little to drawn out. Although I thought there were some scenes that were very good and emotional there were some scenes that were very boring. Overall the thing I didn't like about the movie was it was too graphic in the medical scenes for me. I had to shield my eyes a few times.

Thought provoker. Every parent should see this movie, but not for the faint of heart.

If you want a movie that will cause you to reflect on your priorities in life and to want to embrace your family and never let go, then this is the film for you. I have never cried so hard in a movie before, actually wailing out loud, almost uncontrollably. While the movie was difficult to watch, the tears came from a place of love and gratitude and compassion that caused me to feel fully human and alive, touching me to the core, especially as a mother, and it felt wonderful to realize how deep the ties that bind us can be, as a domestic family, and as a human family. I must admit I had to turn my head 2 or 3 times at the more disturbing or graphic scenes, but there was enough warning that they were coming that I was able to close my eyes before I saw too much. I think the movie, while focusing on the hope of this particular family, also fairly represented the destruction and life-shattering affects on the citizens of Thailand, & opened my eyes to the needs of the rest of the world.

    Bring kleenex!

    by jonim

Great acting by both MacGregor, Watts and the children. The one thing that I could have done without? Seeing just about the entire movie in the trailer. I knew the storyline from beginning to end from watching the trailer. Don't do that!

    The Impossible

ive never posted prior, but felt compelled to join just to try and warn others.

it was horrible. it was the most long dragged out borefest that i have ever seen. it was a challenge sitting through the whole movie waiting for it to get interesting. we were ready to leave many times throughout the movie but didnt, i wish we had.

the storyline was there, but just got dragged on, and on and on and on and on, get it?

the length could have been cut in half and it still may have been too long. bad bad bad. you will lose an hour and 40 minutes of your life if you go to see this movie.

    As real as it gets...

    by mavram

This movie is extremely well made. You actually feel/believe that you are there with this family and go through all the horrifying experiences they went through. You can feel yourself experiencing the terror of that Tsunami. It is gut retching at times.
The cast is superb and do the experience justice. This is a must see... you will plead with a higher power to never ever be near anything like this when you are done watching this movie. Very much Oscar worthy.

Heart-wrenching movie - triumph of the human spirit!

    by

Terrific movie - the subject was handled in a respectful and humane manner in dedication to the thousands of lives lost during the Indonesian tsunami.

It was great to see so many survivors pulling together to help others, and the ending was touching. Good movie, but be ready to cry a lot

If you thought hurricane Sandy was bad, wait until you see what a tsunami can do.

    by

Based on a true story of a family separated from each other when the Tsunami hit their beach resort in Thailand and how they miraculously got back together. Bring a box ot tissues..

    Excellent Movie

    by indjeff

Very exciting from the beginning to the end. A true but slightly altered story. A couple of scenes you might need to turn your head. But I really enjoyed this movie. Excellent acting and wonderful cinematogrphy.

    Family time

I was touched deep inside. Every family has sibling rivalry. And everyone wants a nice vacation on the beach. When the Tsunami hit, the whole family was separated, this is a very emotional journey of them finding one another and helping others in a disaster. PG13 one spot of moms breast, and another of a mans behind, because all they had were the clothes on their back and some were ripped off from the water. I think 10 and older would be all right. No sex, no violence, just reality of a tsunami. They do show body bags, and bodies. but keep in mind it's a movie and that's a replica. Go see it with your family.

    Amazing special effects!

Amazing story, but bring your tissues. My husband and I left the movie emotionally exhausted. The special effects are amazing. I was bracing myself for the tsunami. Very well
    done.

    Totally engrossing

More graphic than I imagined .... But also fantastic. The visual imagery is amazing, as is the acting -- esp. Naomi Watts. Also loved the actor who plays the oldest son. He matures right before your eyes. Stunning and moving and gripping.

    Intensely moving

    by 8baers

This is a movie to see with someone you love...makes you really think about life and relationships. If you are tough, you will cry. If you are sensitive, bring kleenex. Appropriately graphic for the real story, but might be too intense for younger teens and children.

    The Impossible

J.A. Bayona directed one of my favorite horror movies of recent years, The Orphanage, and being unaware this was his film, I was a bit surprised to see his name scroll in the director credit for this true story tsunami drama. His melodramatic approach here is typical of disaster films and though it's better than most in that grain, it ultimately felt too tidy for my taste. I liked Ewan McGregor's performance as much as Naomi Watts' but wouldn't say either was exceedingly deserving of an acting nomination. Oh and what's with the subtle yet pointed anti-Americanism? I get that most of the world has a general dislike for the U.S. but what is its relevance to this tragic situation? Was there heavy criticism for our relief efforts with this particular disaster of which I was (blissfully) unaware? 3.25 stars (out of 5)
