An opinion from a fan of the book and now the movie...
My husband and I both have read the book many times, and I have to say that we both really liked the movie. At the end, my husband semi-yelled out "Please make Speaker [for the Dead]!" (Speaker for the Dead is the second in the series, for those who haven't read the books.)
Asa Butterfield and Harrison Ford were top notch, and though I'd heard in online reviews elsewhere that the other child actors weren't that great, I beg to differ! In particular, I thought those with greater speaking roles did a fabulous job, especially the actor who played Bonzo Madrid.
If you're expecting a movie like the first Harry Potter with the "wonder" of a new place, stop right there. (By the way, I'm a Harry Potter fan, so this is not said to put those films/books down.) This movie is not that movie. It deals with deeper themes, and Ender is, overall, something of a tragic character.
So, keep an open mind, enjoy the beautiful space and battle room sequences, and go see this film!
