    Zero Dark Thirty

    by atc07

This movie is pretty lengthy so be prepared going in. At times the film seems to drag on but I felt that it was very interesting just for the fact that it deals with events that are still very current. Great storyline and actors, I would definitely say this movie is worth the price.

Amazing portrayal of a incredible story-Kathryn Bigelow Rocks!

Thank you Kathryn Bigelow for telling this story, giving an honest portrayal of the difficulties our intelligence people must work through on several fronts: with the enemy (terrorists) our supposed "Allies" (Pakistan) and the bureaucracy of our own agencies and govenment.

Initially I wasn't going to see this film, having heard that Bigelow's team was given access and inside info that if broadcast, could endanger our troops, especially if the access was intended to promote Obama and his lackeys. But when she got blackballed by the Hollywood elite for telling the real story, (including showing the torture that is necessary to get usable intel) and then letting the viewer decide, I went.

The added fact that this woman director can make the most gritty, believable, non-gratuitous war movies (including the Hurt Locker) only raises her stock in my book. SEE IT.

Didn't like the film after watching it. The movie is long and boring, pretty much we all know how the story would end on Bin Ladens fate, its always told in the news just about everyday so why make a film about it? Its pretty much for adult viewing, R rated not for children to see due to the language and violence.

    RE: Only Ok

    by lbrande

The portrayal of this landmark event in recent history makes the annalist as a person that has no respect for her superiors (as in bosses). She takes on the job as a religious conviction with the belief that SHE is the only person that is working towards the ultimate goal. This is a very lopsided point of view, and seems to be strained in bringing it to the screen.
The use of "enhanced" tactics to obtain intelligence was muted and not as important as people make it out to be. It was a useful tool for the storyline.
The portrayal of the raid seems to be as accurate as depicted in "No Easy Day". A very clean, well thought out, and executed raid.
Although the movie was put together well, it seemed strained at times in its portrayal of the "heroine". The movie may have been better if the "Special Teams" were given a bigger role showing some watered down preparation for the raid.
All in all, I would give this movie a B-.

    Compelling last 30 minutes

    by

The first two hours were very slow! It was hard staying awake. Just dull until the last 30 or so minutes when they finally go in to get Bin Ladin. The acting was superb, but editing was lacking.

    Ignore the critics

I had low expectations for this movie, given all I'd heard from the professional critics.

They were wrong. While this isn't a great movie, it's certainly worth the time (and your money) to see.

While the exact conversations between CIA agents, operatives and directors is pure speculation, the movie adhered to the facts when it came to timeline and events.

And on a purely base note, there was a certain satisfaction to seeing Osama Bin Laden take a bullet to the head. But perhaps I'm a terrible person.

    Zero Dark Thirty

I thought the movie was interesting although choppy from a timeline perspective in the hunt for Bin Laden. Having said that I thought the script was well acted. It was refreshing to see depicted what was probably actual (albeit somewhat sanitized) occurences in terms of interrogations and the assult on the compound. My 22 year old son went with me. He separated from the Marine Corps just a week ago, having served two tours in Aftghanistan as an Infantryman, his observation was boredom until the SEAL team sequence, but what can you expect from a 22 year old grunt.

    Not perfect but good

    by anhamil

Definitely worth seeing. The torture scenes are difficult to watch but important. It seems to drag at times but I'm sure that is what the decade long investigation did as well, so in that way we feel the main character's situation (and we only invest a little under 3 hours). This is not the best picture of the year (imho) but it is a good film and an important piece of our recent history. A history that we should study and learn from lest we repeat past mistakes.

It is fine, no 4 or 5 star movie.

    by

It had a strong narrative unlike the other movie that came out on the same topic. But it was just ok, nothing to rave about. Can certainly wait for it to come out on Netflix, it'll be soon enough.

Somehow these Bin Laden movies get high marks, must be based on strong American patriotism, but judging it as a movie rather than a political agenda, it was not that amazing.

If you thought "The Hurt Locker" was good...

"Zero Dark Thirty" is at least as good,if not better. The first 3/4 is basically 'boots',CIA field operatives,vs. 'suits',the bureaucrats.. The final 30 mins. or so is the raid itself on the Bin Laden compound,
which was intense. All aspects of this film are top notch,acting,directing,locations...very realistic.

Compelling story diminished by overplayed character study

Soon after its powerful introduction, which captures the horror of 9-11 through the fear-stricken voices of actual victims, this film begins to trade the inherent drama of the hunt for bin Laden for an overplayed character study of its protagonist - a protagonist who becomes less and less believable as the story unfolds. The procedural aspects of the manhunt are plenty interesting, in and off themselves. The film would have been much more powerful if it had focused more on how we found and brought down bin Laden, and less on the quirks and frailties of a fictionalized heroine. That said, the scenes depicting the tracking of bin Laden's courier were absorbing, and I was riveted by the portrayal of the Abbottabad raid.

    Good Flick

Worth Seeing. Slow to start & acting stiff initially, then things warmed up and enjoyed the rest of the movie. They approached a delicate subject well!

    Zero Dark Thirty

I thought is was going to be exciting from begining to end but it was slow going and unfortunately I fell asleep during those parts. But when it picked up again I was opened eyed.

The ending was pretty entertaining going in blowing off doors and much more. I guess this might be more of guy flick then a chick flick.

For me it was and ehh ok show..

    "Zero Dark Thirty"

A very good production with excellent character development and following historic accuracy. Althought by now the "plot" and outcome are well-known, the movie kept viewers in suspense. It wasn't as action-packed as I thought it would be until the actual scenes of the raid itself and to that extent was a bit slow, but perhaps that was necessary to give viewers a better sense of the complexities that had to be dealt with in order to bring about a successful mission. Definitely worth taking the time to see it.
