Murky early details, but solid payoff

Bigelow proveddshe's a first rate director with Hurt Locker. This one's rather busy, with many characters and details thrown into the mix. It's overlong, with many characters introduced, without a clear sense of their place in the proceedings. The emphasis on the gritty, dirty, detailed work of intelligence gathering is not glamorized...except for the lead female. Jessica Chastain does a very fine job with the role but I can't help but question whether there was too much Hollywood gloss put on this deep-behind-scenes character. Was she really diminished by her male colleagues? We still have that much chauvinist attitudes in the 2000's? If so...then she's an even greater hero than simply the well-deserved accolades for the diligent work of a successful investigator. The big payoff is the Bin Laden raid. Though there's only sketchy preparations provided for the raid itself, the actual evening of the raid if fabulously documented. A great conclusion to an important film.

    Absolutely fantastic

Very well done. I appreciate the director's attempt to not infuse too much Hollywood into the film. Overall, excellent film -- it's an important story that should be seen by every American.

no judgement, just the story. Your morals decide if it should have been done. I think YES, but that's me.

    It could have been better

Hollywood. Focus too much on the girl by portraying what we see in most movies: girls kicking asses and be the heroine. I wish they would have focused more on the Seals and more action but oh well, that's Hollywood!

    Go see this movie

Great performance by Jessica Chastain shows how close we came to not getting UBL and what a joke the new administrations policy's are. Wished it would have shown more about the military and how they trained for raid. Good triumphed over evil!

    Well Done!!

I enjoyed the reality of this movie. I thought it was a great representation of how this process was not only stalled and SNAFU?D from the start but how it ended in the only way possible. My opinion is that there is too much attention to how we gained the intel, as opposed to the actually man power and individual persistence to continue until the job is done. I am certain that is why the Intelligence community is so up in arms by this - because there are some things we should not know and if we did - of course - moralistically and ethically the normal person would not approve of doing to extract intel. As others have stated, I think this is the most clear cut example of this process that we will ever be privy to see on the screen or in real life, from start to finish. Well Done Bigelow! She can really do a Military movie like no other!

Slower than i thought, but still very good

i don't see this as Best Picture winner, was a little slow, and not as heart pounding as i imagined. still a very good movie, Jessica Chastain carried the movie and the agent in charge of the prisoner torture stole the film.

    Grown-up movie for grown-up sensibilities

    by

Looking for a shoot-em-up bang-bang movie? This isn't it. Looking for a well crafted, intense story that ratchets up the tension scene by scene thoughtfully and masterfully? Then Zero Dark Thirty is the movie for you. Even though you know how this story ends, you're still sitting on the edge of your seat during the final act. Kathryn Bigelow hit another home run with this one, but she won't be recognized for her excellence come Oscar time because--well, how to say this--it has a fundementally patriotic, pro-USA, dare I say "politically conservative" story line. My admiration for our military and Special Forces swelled as I watched the movie's climactic scenes. This is a terrific film for anyone who likes their movies to give them credit for being able to pay attention to dialogue and scene progression, and for anyone who just enjoys a great story well told.

    Zero Dark Thirty

This is an excellent movie and had a lot of information that I didn't know. Jessica Chastain was wonderful and she should win the Academy award. It kept you on the edge of your seat when the Navy Seals went into the compound. It was amazing that they were able to go into the compound, blow the doors and actually get to the location where Osama was hiding. I would recommend it to everyone who want to have more information about this life changing event.

    Zero Dark Thirty

I loved it. It kept my heart beating fast for the entire movie. It was brilliant. The acting, director, cinematography were so strong, I just can't say enough. To watch such talent, and feel this way, even when you know the story line. Bravo.

    Zero Dark Thirty

I have seen Lincoln, Les, Argo and this movie is easily as good as any of those. The acting and Directing was great and you got a better sense of history being made. It was a little slow in a couple of places but necessary to secure character, time line and action development. I read the book "No Easy Day" and the stories match up well. I will watch this movie again on DVD.

    Woman doesn't get credit

    by audbar

Excellent movie, The CIA (woman) agent who single-handedly find Osoma bin Laden is completely left out of the capture and credit for it. It's so sad that it came down like that. No awards medals nothing was given to her for her role in the event. Cinematography was fantastic. Acting was great. Long.

Makes you proud to be an american!

This movie is so realistic and raw and that causes it to be a bit slow at times but even when it is slow your are 100% into the movie because the subject matter is so close to home and you really want to know how they caught osama bin laden. Now this is not a movie you want to bring a kid to see because it is over two and a half hours and is very violent so now that i got all that out the way i'd like to say this movie is going to be put on the list of great american movies it is so good. Jessica chastain NEEDS to win best actress at the oscars she is just outstanding as mya and all the other actors/actresses are great but i'd like to point out chris pratt he is really good in this movie everyone is so use to him being a goofy guy but he is also a very good dramatic actor!. I also like how it was really real and they didn't dramatize anything i spoil anythung but the end of the movie sends chills down your spine and makes you proud to be an american i give ZERO DARK THIRTY a 10/10
