Simply just another military movie
Going into ZDT, I had great expectations, especially after all the hype and controversy it was getting. However, it simply never blew me away. Aside from Bigelow's great use of emotion, camera work and the use of dead silence in the perfect spots, none of that make this movie one for the ages. A few of my dislikings for the movie: With this movie being about a 10+ year manhunt for one guy, there was a lot of desk work... I've seen more violence and bloodshed in cartoons than the torture scenes had... It would have served the film better to have the other characters involved much more... The last scene IS the movie, and half of it was spent finding a way to get in... They made a lot of noise once they arrived, and only one guy from inside fired back, several minutes into the raid... Regardless of whether that's how long it lasted, the raid went by in a flash; a lot to take in and not a lot of time to do so... Does ZDT deserve a Best Pic nominee? Sure. Does it deserve to win? No way.
