    Simply just another military movie

Going into ZDT, I had great expectations, especially after all the hype and controversy it was getting. However, it simply never blew me away. Aside from Bigelow's great use of emotion, camera work and the use of dead silence in the perfect spots, none of that make this movie one for the ages. A few of my dislikings for the movie: With this movie being about a 10+ year manhunt for one guy, there was a lot of desk work... I've seen more violence and bloodshed in cartoons than the torture scenes had... It would have served the film better to have the other characters involved much more... The last scene IS the movie, and half of it was spent finding a way to get in... They made a lot of noise once they arrived, and only one guy from inside fired back, several minutes into the raid... Regardless of whether that's how long it lasted, the raid went by in a flash; a lot to take in and not a lot of time to do so... Does ZDT deserve a Best Pic nominee? Sure. Does it deserve to win? No way.

Great movie- I let my mom's reaction do the talking

    by

Since being engaged and my fiancée not always having the same movie interest as me, my mother has become my new movie partner, which is great because we spend more quality time together then we used to. I can always tell when a movie is great by my mom?s behavioral response. If the movie is boring, she will fall asleep and start snoring. If the movie is great, she will be wide awake and ask like 20 questions throughout the movie. For this movie, she was completely awake and asking about 20 questions.

In addition, I thought it was a really good movie. It had a good story line and it seemed not to veer off to much and try to make it a typical Hollywood movie. I like that it did not focus on mega actors who can take away from the story line. It had consistency as far as good dialogue and good action scenes. I enjoyed the movie and well, my mother and me had a 20 minute discussion about the movie afterwards.

Amazing portrayal of a incredible story-Kathryn Bigelow Rocks!

Thank you Kathryn Bigelow for telling this story, giving an honest portrayal of the difficulties our intelligence people must work through on several fronts: with the enemy (terrorists) our supposed "Allies" (Pakistan) and the bureaucracy of our own agencies and govenment.

Initially I wasn't going to see this film, having heard that Bigelow's team was given access and inside info that if broadcast, could endanger our troops, especially if the access was intended to promote Obama and his lackeys. But when she got blackballed by the Hollywood elite for telling the real story, (including showing the torture that is necessary to get usable intel) and then letting the viewer decide, I went.

The added fact that this woman director can make the most gritty, believable, non-gratuitous war movies (including the Hurt Locker) only raises her stock in my book. SEE IT.

    Woman doesn't get credit

    by audbar

Excellent movie, The CIA (woman) agent who single-handedly find Osoma bin Laden is completely left out of the capture and credit for it. It's so sad that it came down like that. No awards medals nothing was given to her for her role in the event. Cinematography was fantastic. Acting was great. Long.

    Snooze session

    by

I don't have much to contribute other than I've only walked out on 1 movie in my life and this almost became my second. Not because I was offended but because it was so slow that I lost interest. This movie is so hyped up and the ending is very unclimactic. Don't bother wasting your time.

Fandango screws us for Zero Dark Thirty

TRIED to see Zero Dark Thirty. Asked Fandango to send my ticket to my iphone--hour before! Got to the theatre, looked at my phone, and saw a text that said "will send you your mobile ticket soon." By the time we had it figured out, the only seats left were in the first row. GREAT service, Fandango! Someone tell me how the movie was.

    Tedious and cold

    by vertlaw

Chastain is cold and emotionally unengaged. The action if you want to call it that, drags and then bursts forth. The pace of this movie is all off, in fact it is hard to say that there is any conscious pace. After all the hype -- a major disappointment.

    ooooooh-rah!

Entertaining and captivating eventho we know the ending. Lacks information and was 'thin' at times with 'filler scenes' I expect because the info. is still secret. Acting was good, not sure Oscar worthy tho. Scenes and cinematography steal the show as you feel you are looking at Defense tape. Not for kids under 16 for sure as most of it is slow moving and of course, violent. The violence, however, was not over the top as I expected. Final scene makes the whole movie worthwhile. Get the jumbo popcorn, you'll be sitting for a long time!

    Intense!

If you are someone who enjoys military movies this one is intense! The reviewers that said it drags on may not have an interest in world events like I do. It was a great movie.

    Slooooooow until the end

Very slow and there was not enough planning by the SEALs. It was like they knew all along how to do it and never studied the house!!

Good Movie - One of those that keep you thinking about it several days later

The movie keeps you involved and interested from begining to the end. Even though I knew the ending. The ending had a lot of action that kept me wondering what was going to happen next. I saw this movie 2 times. The 2nd time I saw it was as good as the 1st time.

    Eye Opener

    by

This is one of those circumstances where its hard to say that I actually enjoyed the movie, but I'm certainly glad I saw it. I don't know how much of this movie was actually based on true events and how much of it was embellished by Hollywood, but assuming that even 3/4's of it was based on actual events, it certainly opened my eyes to the harsh realities of what is involved in our Country's fight against terrorist. I now realize how privileged and sheltered my life has been and how very thankful I am that we have so many brave women and men willing to put their lives on the line for our country and our very privileged way of life. With that having been said, Director Kathryn Bigelow did a fabulous job, and Jessica Chastain's performance was amazing. It's definitely not a movie I would want to sit through more than once, but it was an absolute must see.

    Great movie!

    by

Definitely go see it. Some of the explosions will come at very surprising times and the final portion of the movie is tense as hell. I wasn't sitting on the edge of my seat, only because I knew what was going to happen. The title cards before each major scene were unneeded. Great sound, great acting, and one hell of a final scene! Definitely worth seeing.

    Good, but tedious

Zero Dark Thirty was a powerful film, but it was a bit long, and a bit tedious at points. The movie is not action packed, only the last 20 minutes or so have any action at all, but it was well done. I have a new appreciation for the tedious and time consuming work the CIA does for the country, especially while hunting down terrorists. The film was eye opening, and the raid kept me on the edge of my seat.
