    A ZERO

What a sucky movie! The best part was the beginning when all we heard were the sounds of people screaming in the towers. What a bore - I slept through most of it. I was fascinated by the Navy Seals - the sweet testosterone of them - but didn't really get the movie - were we supposed to feel badly for Osama Bin Ladin and his pals? Cause I did - and thought the Americans were awful - was that the point of the movie ? if it is .... ucch. and I am getting tired of the new female stereotype - crazy work driven and tough - psycho lady ( Homeland is the same character) who has no life.
I'll take Argo over this any day. I like my current event/ history to be entertaining ( the Iron Lady , Argo , the Queen etc.). Should have seen silver linings! A.

    Zero Dark Thirty-Gripping!

Movie opens with a blank screen & the sounds of Chaos @ the WTC in NYC on 9/11/01. I thought the projector broke. Good device to reel you in. While the initial interrogation scenes are rough to watch, I can't help but think it was rougher for the WTC victims who I was spared watching die in the opening "blank screen" sequence.
You are rooting for the underdog female CIA character from the beginning as she makes herself the outsider inside the CIA. Relentless, and determined to get her guy......
Intense, rivoting & best flick I've seen in the past 12 months!

    Zero Dark

I love this movie. 2 hours of set up for the final raid is great. The ONLY thing that didn't ring true is how in the world could two helicopters fly 20 feet over this house and one of them CRASH without the whole compound going ballistic. In the movie they sleep through it.
    Oh well....it's a great movie!!!

    But Keep in Mind...

This is a taut, suspense filled film, and almost everything works, except the premise that torture led to information that helped locate Osama bin Laden. It's better to view it as entertainment than documentary, especially if you're squeamish about the idea that our government has tortured people supposedly in the public interest.

    Slow Build to Terrific End

    by GregorC

I believe Kathryn Bigelow has an incredible insight into the overall tedious nature and grindingly slow pace of actual wartime. Unfortunately, she makes her movies to reflect this frustratingly snail-paced existence. I think it's intentional. I can't criticize her vision. The direction is pointed and specific and highly realistic. It's just not a particularly gripping movie until the mission to kill Bin Laden begins near the end.

Fine performances from everyone in it make it watchable, however.

    Very powerful film

The film depicts the struggles of the US intelligence community in the hunt for Bin Laden - the reality of what they tried, some of which worked and some didn't. There was a sense of working against time and the investigators finding themselves in desparate situations and blind alleys. At the end the theatre was nearly silent. The film isn't all pretty, but neither was the reality. The film makers might not have perfectly reflected every historical detail, but they captured the essence. It is too bad that so many politicos could not see it for what it is.

    Bigelow got robbed!

This movie is why she would have deserved her 2nd Best Director Oscar. Should also win for screenplay. Very well developed story. Even when you know something is coming you don't know how,it is coming. Must see.

Great Movie - Kept You Alert

    by Memfan

Entertaining. Very interesting to watch this. Based on true events. Only thing i kept thinking was how much of the story line really was the truth. Nevertheless great to watch this. Loved how they portrayed women as the main leaders in finding bin laden

    ZERO DARK 30

Great movie. Very well done. Especially enjoyed learning , at least to some degree, how the CIA operates: the amount of detail that must be reviewed to latch on to a clue that will end up being a significant lead. I suppose the success of finding Bin Laden, the guy who hurt us so badly, & knowing the successful outcome also made it a feel good movie & made all the little details building up to the success so interesting.

    Must Go

Of course I don't know how the "true" events really went down but this story was reasonable and seemed to agree in somewhat with what I have read (No Easy Day) and what I would have expected. The men and women that pulled the raid off deserve our respect and I think this movie did a good job overall. I say Must Go.

Great movie! It was really cool to see just how many major news stories were tied to UBL and the CIA looking for him. I would see it again.

    Zero Dark Thirty - Epic

This movie was incredibly interesting and very suspensful at times. The director does a great job of making the viewer feel part of the overall story. At times my heart was racing and palms were sweaty with anticipation. The analytic process and hardship that our country faced in apprehending UBL is thoroughly conveyed in this movie. Overall, a great, inspiring movie. I would thoroughly recommend it.

Gripping and well done - even when we know the outcome

Zero Dark Thirty is a gripping tale told well. The cast is excellent, although Jessica Chastain is not quite believable as the CIA agent Maya. The movie is about 20 minutes too long, but is well worth seeing.

    History in the Making

The overwhelming impression I got from this film was realism. Although those expecting a fast-paced story may be dissapointed, they will get a taught and engaging experience where the characters' frustrations and motives are shared by all. Upon viewing the final 30 minutes, anyone let down by the pacing will be rewarded with a fine sequence that is exciting and realistic while still remaining understated and understandable. Events are for the most part very true to actual events that were described by its participants. While the film makers could have produced another biased arrogance piece out of this film, they remained down-the-middle and stuck to the facts. The dialogue was somber and straight-forward, with small bits of humor put in to cut the tension and restore the humanity to certain characters. Although the scope of the film was ambitious, and the events spaced over many years, they managed to maintain a coherent narrative.
