Good, but Tom Cruise was mis-cast.

I was unaware of the Jack Reacher character until the movie trailers came out, so first read the book it was based on, "One Shot". The book was suspenseful and the story more complex as it progressed. The movie was just "good", though the plot was simplified and changed somewhat. Tom Cruise did an excellent job but ultimately he is entirely different physically than the book character. In the book Jack Reacher is 6'5" and 250 lbs. His size is an integral part of who he is. For example, in one scene a character is killed by the bad guys by one punch to the head in an effort to frame Jack. This was done because normally this would require a very large man to do this, so the whole reason was wasted using Tom Cruise at 5'8". Perhaps Liam Neeson, who is 6'4"wasn't available because he would have been the logical and perfect fit. Also one scene in the movie was completely ridiculous and done for a few laughs, but was so slapstick it cheapened the movie a tad. I give is 6.5.

Pleasantly Surprised and Very Entertained by this Film

Let's be honest....I like Tom Cruise for nostalgic reasons. I thought there was something magnetic about him playing Steve in "The Outsiders," enjoyed his next few films and was ahead of my peers who gave him full heart-throb status by the time "Top Gun" came out in 1986. I enjoyed every film he was in for the next 15 years, but the 10 years since then have done nothing for me. Some films were entertaining, but most were just seen because friends or family wanted to see them and he's still great eye candy. I did really like "Knight and Day" but I think that is the only one I enjoyed. I went to see "Jack Reacher" last night because a girl friend picked it from several I said I hadn't seen and would be interested in. I had no expectations of greatness and was surprised. I loved Tom's character and found the film extremely entertaining and enjoyable. I am not sure about everyone, but for me, it was the best film he's done in the last 10 years and I would love to see this character again.

Very good

Spoiler Alert!!! I love everything about this movie. The ending was what i hoped it would always be. Finally they don't let the bad guy live to rot in jail! Thank you Reacher for putting a bullet in the zek's head! I'm buying it when it comes out.

I really liked Jack Reacher and so did my wife who usually doesn't like these types of movies and who isn't a Tom Cruise fan. We see many movies and recommend this one.

Very engaging and entertaining

Our family saw Jack Reacher Christmas to extend the already wonderful day. We all became lost in the story line. The movie made you think, it kept you engaged and was filled with twists and turn that included some great action scenes. It was also nice to see Tom Cruise and Robert Duval back together again. They have a great chemistry and gave this heavy film some levity. We enjoyed it...

Anyone who has read the Lee Child books will never see Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. Tom Cruise ruined the movie for me. I am sorry to see Lee Child does not think better of his books than this.

Jack Reacher ---- UNLEASHED

Don't listen to the critics who OVER-THINK the physical attributes of Jack Reacher. Yes, int the book he is 6'5" 250 lbs but Tom Cruise is a bad *** Jack Reacher.

While the book is better than the movie, the movie conveys the conflict and resolution of the characters

good movie but.....

I'm not a Tom Cruise fan, and also I've read the Jack Reacher books and the character is 6'5" at least and we all know Tom is like 5'5", so that kind of ruins it for me. That said, the movie itself was pretty good and entertaining. It didn't seem as though it were over 2 hours long. Had there been a different actor, it would be "MUST GO" movie.

Pleasantly Surprised

I am a Lee Child fan, so I wasn't expecting much from Tom Cruise in this role because everyone knows Jack Reacher is 6'2" and 250lbs and that isn't Tom. However, I went anyway and although they don't look alike, Tom Cruise is definitely Jack. The plot line stuck very closely to the book (One Shot) and the movie even had a cameo role by Lee Child. It's absolutely worth the price of admission. I'm looking forward to a sequel.

Not Bourne, but good.

My wife and I wanted something action packed and Jack Reacher didn't disappoint. The plot was believable and sufficiently involved to keep us interested, the action was exciting. I did feel some struggle with identifying the character as Cruise portrayed him. The tension between the stoic detached Reacher and the "I really want to be intimate with you" Reacher appeared awkward to me. Perhaps the tension will be handled differently in the sequel...and I do expect a sequel. After all, how many more tall buildings are there for Cruise to swinging from or impossible missions for him to tackle? I'll look forward to watching the next iteration of this refugee military cop.

Excellent Movie

One of Tom Cruise best performance and movie plot is fantastic, movie you will stay awake for. You really could watch it again and probably be like watching it for the first time. It's fast paced and requires staying focus. I attend to see it again.

A Good Surprise

The movie turned out to be better than I thought it would be. It was a good mix of action, thriller and mystery with a bits of comedy thrown in. But there was a lot more violence than I would expect from a PG-13 movie. (I don't mind it, but I had my mother and nephew with me and it was a little much for them.)

Suspensful, action filled thriller

This was a very good movie. It was filled with suspense, action and thrills. Tom Cruise was great in the role of Jack reacher and the acting by the other characters was also quite good. The plot moved along welland continually held one's attention. I enjoyed Robert Duval's part in the movie; his role was a good compliment to Tom Cruise's character.

Good not great

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the acting and action in Jack Reacher. Having never read the books, I found the plot was well laid out and kept you guessing all the way up to the surprise ending. There has been a lot of criticism that Tom Cruise does not fit the character because he is too small, but height is not a part of one's character its a physical characteristic. Cruise delivered a great performance, delivering on the action and humor. This movie is very good but not great, definitely worth seeing.

I've decided that critics are just people looking for acknowledgement rather than truly giving us a critique about a movie....who really cares about their opinion anyway. This was a great movie! Fun, funny and a lot of action.
