    Tom Cruise IS Jack Reacher

As Lee Child said, Tom Cruise captures Jack Reacher completely. I hope this becomes a franchise and there are many more to come. I couldn't find anything to complaim about with this film.

Why is mindless violence so much worse in the movie than the book?

    by m771

Maybe because it goes on so long, and when you're reading, it moves along better. The now-obligatory car smashup chase was great in French Connection. Now it is inserted into every action movie even though it has nothing to do with the plot, makes no sense, and goes on and on and on and on and on and on. Ditto most of the fistfights.
Key problems: I've read many of the books, and Tom Cruise is not Jack Reacher. Reacher doesn't smirk. There's a sort of gravitas to him that Cruise hasn't captured. Also, there was a little potential for some suspense and tension that they decided to remove from the movie. In the book, you don't learn right away that the sniper / killer in custody, against whom compelling evidence has been adduced, may not be the killer until some plot development. Here, we see immediately that he's been framed. Pretty dumb.

Both Plot and Action Suspend Reality

This is a definite must see on Netflix or Redbox. The plot wasn't very believable and the action seemed over-the-top contrived. If you are looking for the Tom Cruise from the Mission Impossible franchise...this isn't him. Older and slower, he attempts to play a Harrison Ford ala Patriot Games kind of character. A definite fail on his part. Whoever put together the wardrobe for the female lead has clearly never seen a professional attorney dress! Save the money and wait for this movie to hit cable, Netflix, or Redbox.

    Reacher

Great movie! Tom Cruise is always a great actor and is always surprising us with different and great roles. He, yet again, does a great job in Jack Reacher. It definitely has a twist and a kick and oh ya...Robert Duvall...Random, but hey, Robert Duvall is the MAN as well. Definitely check this out if you have the time.

Just what I was in the mood for

If you enjoy a good mystery/detective movie with just the right amounts of action, humor, and drama, Jack Reacher is a must see movie for you. The pace was perfect, and the movie keeps you in your seat. A great lead character (Jack Reacher is awesome), with great character development and plots. Being a fan of the books, I was a little skeptical with the casting of Tom Cruise as the lead, but Cruise did not disappoint. He played the role very well and sort of made it his own. Cruise's one-liners are scripted and delivered well.

Very entertaining movie, and one of the more entertaining ones I've seen this year. Everyone I watched it with (men and women from the ages of 26 to 60) thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

Highly-Entertaining! Cruise (mostly) made me overcome my doubts re: his casting as Reacher.

Very well-done, faithfully-presented adaptation of Lee Child's gripping book. Inventive, gripping, and well-made. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

For the record, on principle I still profoundly regret the casting of Tom Cruise in the lead role as Jack Reacher (solely because I'm an avid follower if the series and over a decade+ Lee Child has inextricably painted a very specific body type--massive physical stature--into the minds of readers). That said, Cruise clearly demonstrates his commanding screen presence, and taking the role by itself, I was convinced and entertained.

Definitely worth seeing--in the theater. Pre-movie suggestion for Lee Child Reacher fans: Forget about the character from the books.

    Loved it!!

I was a little leary of Tom Cruise playing a 6'5' 250LB. hero, but he nailed it. I was suprised at how close it followed the book. I have all Lee Childs Jack Reached books and can't wait for the next one to come out. Now I will allways see Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher.

    Jack Reacher

Having read a few of the books with a much larger Jack Reacher, I was skeptical about Tom Cruise playing the part. But, he pulls it off quite well. He is arrogrant and over confident and that is what the part called for. It had enough subtle humor in it to get a few loud laughs from the audience. I would go to see the next in a series of Reacher movies if that is the plan. My wife thought it moved along well and kept our attention.

Tom Cruise in Action the way we like him

Jack Reacher was fun, thrilling, with moments of subtle humor. Tom Cruise presented what we like to see from Tom Cruise. His Jack Reacher was a likeable (slightly sociopathic) hero who I rooted for throughout the movie.
Rosamund Pike also acted well. She is beautiful, and her character Helen was smart and sexy.
It was a nice pleasure to see Tom Cruise and a ?the guest actor? teamed up once again. Their banter seemed genuine, as if that?s how they relate to each other in real life.
Go see it! You will have fun!

    Who should play Reacher

    by jbrahy

The Reacher books are great. Tom Cruise is a terrific actor but not as Reacher! The guy who plays John on the TV series Person of Interest would have been perfect.

    Great movie!

    by

This movie is another example of an action packed, suspenseful story. Cruise plays the part perfectly. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and performances.

If you like Cruise's Mission Impossible flicks, you will like this film.

    Decent Action Flick

Just felt like it had too much of a 'superhero' type feel to it, lot of the scenes were just a bit too unreal, but it was a good laugh and worth the 8 bucks.

    Lee Child Fan

I've been a Jack Reacher fan for several years. I think the movie with Tom Cruise captured the essence of the character and did a good job of presenting the novel, "One Shot." For Reacher fans, getting past the physical differences between Tom Cruise and the Lee Child character is the only stretch, so to speak, since Lee Child gave Jack Reacher a height of 6'5" and a strong build to go with it.
There was plenty of action, a plot that pulled the thinking fan into the movie and characters that were developed well enough to keep me engaged in the twists of the plot. In the season of so many releases, I think Jack Reacher is well worth seeing on the big screen.

    Actually a really good movie

As a rabid fan of the Jack Reach books by Lee Child, I was disappointed when I saw that Tom Cruise was being cast as Jack. However, once I got past the physical difference between Tom and the book's version of Jack Reacher I was totally sucked in by the story, even though I knew what the ending was from reading the book. Tom does a great job with Jack's persona and the rest of the cast was also totally in character. If you like action with some mystery and intrigue, this should be a great movie for you. Go see it.
