    really weird indy film-don't bother

    We went to this movie because of the great reviews. Little girl is cute, but truth is the story line and the setting are very depressing and squalid. Definitely would not recommend this disturbing movie about uneducated, drunk, pitiful people being portrayed like they are conveying deep truths. Wish we had gone to see something else!

    THE DIRECTORS OF THE FILM MUST BE FROM NAWLINS!

    Recently, my family and I went to see "Beast of the Southern Wild" and the story was surreal! Of course, I cried as characters, Hushpuppy and her Dad (both - novice actors) were outstanding in their performances! We are originally from New Orleans living in Dallas post Katrina, so it was easy to put ourselves in the "BathTub"! The "spirit" of the film is naturally, Nawlins as there are many diehards who refused to leave the city come hell or high waters; they like the people on the Bayou are resilient - Katrina was a perfect example! Because of Hushpuppy, I would bring my grand-daughter to see this beautiful movie!

    Please say it ain't so..

    This is another story about some very unlikable people who live in the South and suffer after a massive hurricane. If you go to the movies to be entertained and uplifted, this is NOT the movie for you. The cinematographic style is the blurry jumpy camera that never lets you see much of anything clearly -- I suppose the intent is to present things from the viewpoint of a 6 year old waif with a vivid imagination that runs wild at times. This is a film which seems to be aimed at the critics rather than movie goers... very arty. I found it long and painful.

    One of the dullest most boring movie experiences EVER

    Just horrendous and a sooooo boring, where people do irritating things -- refuse medical care, refuse a better living situation. I kept hearing how great this movie was and I was completely taken aback at how NOT oscar worthy this movie is. A couple people in my theater even walked out.

    Beast of a Movie and Don't Miss It

    Fell into this movie, but glad I did. This movie is very Artsy, moving and is unbelievably entertaining for a low budget film. I agree with the general census that the eight year old lead (Quvenzhané Wallis) puts in an Oscar Winning performance and at least will be nominated. The movie morals do not get in the way or sound too preachy. We must save our planet and this movie is a move in the right direction.

    Moving and amazing. Must see!!!

    In an American setting the vast majority of us could never imagine, a unique group of characters live a life that is similarly unimaginable. The heroine is similarly unexpected and exquisitely depicted by Quvenzhané Wallis, backed up by a superb group of actors.
    Deserving of many film awards.

    Beast of the Southern Wild

    Oh my gosh. You must be kidding. Worst bunch of garbage I've ever seen. Left the theater. Wish I had my money back. If this is award winning film I'm must be on the wrong planet. Story was stupid and camera work gave me a headache. My girlfriend and I felt violated when we left the theater. Sick from the beginning.

    Beast of the Southern Wild

    Sorry to say that my husband and I did not at all like this movie. The best I can say is that the acting was good. However,it was disjointed in parts and quite pretentious. We just couldn't engage. It was all over the place. For whatever reason, it did not hold our interest.

    Just have to see it to get it

    All the revews before my post totally capture my feelings and interpretation of this film. It's hard to describe, and is a film that you just have to see to understand what everyone is talking about. I am a huge fan of independent films and as I always say, it's a shame that so many people never see such quality films, and they spend millions of dollars on such crappy mainstream block bushers. What a loss for them. If this movie is playing in a theater near you, go see it.

    Hushpuppy Will Grab You

    Excellent movie. Kept my attention the whole time. All the actors did a very good job. But the Hushpuppy character is well played by such a young actress. She is the heart and soul of the movie and she will touch your heart and soul.

    Beasts of the southern Wild

    Interestingly, that the previous reviews are all definately either "Love or Hate". It is difficult for me to understand why anyone would not be moved by this movie. Perhaps it is uncomfortable for them to be made aware of how dire other peoples lives can be.... in your own country. There are no words more telling than the positive ones before mine....but this child should definately be an Oscar nominee. thru her optomism and courage, she pulls you in and takes you with her on this journey...and I was really glad to be along with her.

    good but..

    While I really enjoyed the film I have to admit to leaving the theatre not being entirely sure what the filmmaker was trying to tell us. And I am sure they were trying hard to tell us something, but unfortunately it may just not have been as complicated a message as I expected from the complicated storyline.

    Charming

    A little depressive, and didn't understands a lot it but the picture seems like it was made in another world, I know the South is rough but that was down right oppressive.
