    Brilliant and beautiful

If you liked Crouching Tiger, get ready to be overwhelmed! This is a touching, brilliant, and visually mesmerizing film. Superb acting and you never know when CGI is being used. Great moral too about humanity and faith and survival. One of the rare movies I would see again and again.

    pretty good movie

Cinematography is amazing and for that alone it's worth going to see it in 3D. I could have done without the animal violence, it was disturbing, we see people get killed in movies all the time but it's really tough to see innocent animals getting killed even fish. I had to look away or cover my eyes several times. Didn't do anything for me in a religious way and I could have done without the constant religious coercion. but the film of the tiger and the animals and wildlife and fish was amazing and the meerkats and beautiful underwater shots and angles. I don't see how it would cause any religious epiphanies but I could see someone who was already religious might have a secondary epiphany from it or from it happening. If not for the beautiful filming I would say rental. It gets slow but then it redeems itself with some beautiful shots. Great acting too. Just slow and violent towards animals.

    Beautiful Story and Movie

I read this book long ago and was amazed that the intricacies of the spiritual concepts of the story could be captured in a movie. Beautifully filmed.

    Life of Pi

Took niece and nephew - ages 14 and 15. We loved the beauty of the cinematography, the engaging story, the story within the story, the acting, and the fascinating idea of coexisting with your enemy. Excellent movie. We saw it twice.

    Loved it

    by

I read the book years ago and loved it. So I really wanted to see this movie. I have to say, other than that there was a ship wreck and a kid stuck on a boat with a tiger, I didn't remember much about the story going into the movie. So the ending was still a surprise. There are two possible conclusions in the movie. When I read the book, I came to conclusion #1. When I saw the movie, I came to conclusion #2. My movie companions, a 15 y.o. male and a 54 y.o. male who both had never read the book and saw it for the first time came to conclusion #1. Interesting!

    lots of water, good 3d

Good entertainment, but not a great movie. The tiger CGI was excellent and at time a compelling story. If you loved the book, my guess is you'll love the movie.

    Odd, but stunning

    by

This is not your typical Hollywood movie. I mean, it's premise is that it will make you believe in God and that is hardly typical Hollywood. Regardless of your feelings about God, however, this is a movie worth seeing.
The cinematography is amazing. The sequence with the whale jumping out of the ocean, the views through crystal clear water, and visions of the ocean and sky are breath-taking and stunningly beautiful.
The ending and the reason for believing in God are a complete surprise.
This is not a movie for sensitive persons, some scenes may make you jump or even scream.

    Beautiful and thought provoking

    by kahearn

Refreshing and thoughtful storyline, beautiful cinematography, compelling characters. And it's a movie you can enjoy with your whole family (assuming kids are middle-school age and up i would suggest). It's the kind of story that stays with you for a long time...

    Pi is a feast!

Life of Pi is a visual feast. If the story appeals to you so much the better. But the visual journey alone is more then enough to satisfy.

    Great acting, beautiful film

    by meedles

The only criticism I have is that the story is kind of self righteous and it hits you over the head with metaphors and a huge G-O-D message at the end which ruined it a bit for me. It was made up for by amazing cinematography and very good acting. The 3D was definitely worth it with this film.

    Another castaway movie...

It was alright. Another classic cast away movie. A lot of obvious ocean "set" scenes, where the ocean water is completely still. The story was another of the same. Wait for this to come out on DVD.

    Spectacularly Beautiful

I read this book many years ago and loved it. I could never imagine this book being made into a great movie, let alone any movie. But it stayed true to the book for the most part, didn't lose any of the magic and in fact was even more magical. The special effects (including the tiger) were beyond description and not just gimmicks but dreams brought to the screen. A terrific movie.

Epic journey through an incredible story

Also some preverbal life contemplation thrown in. The 3D effects are second to none and raise the bar for subsequent movies. Makes you really consider if such a situation could occur. .

    Life of Pi 3D

    by

I read the book and enjoyed it, but had mixed emotions about seeing it. So many good books just don't translate well to the big screen, but they did an excellent job with this one. And the cinematography is mind blowing at times.
Not everyone will appreciate the story, but the visuals are stunning and well worth the price of admission.
