    Fantastic

This movie must be seen in 3D. Lots of technology used but it is easy to ignore it. Very natural, scary, funny, and enjoyable. The actors are superb and the animal beautiful. What a tiger!!! See It.

Life of Pi, Meaning of Life

    by berj66

Great visuals and great story. I took my wife and our two boys 10 and 13 out to that movie. We all loved it. Great movie, and a must see.

I like movies with great visuals and story. That is a great one, and believe that it will collect plenty of Oscar prizes this year.

Go see it. Leave younger kids home.

I went with my teenage son and his girl friend to see this movie. I had not read the book, but after watching the movie, I think I'll buy the book! It began slowly, and I worried that the teens would think it was boring. I had read other reviews that mentioned the film is "very religious". I didn't find that to be true. Although the lead characters had tried many different faiths in his lifetime. But it wasn't shoved down my throat in the movie. I was surprised at the ending. It really sticks with you. Makes you think. When it was over, I looked at the kids and asked "well, what did you think?" The gf loved it! My son, wants to buy it on DVD when it comes out.
I really didn't expect them to understand it, but in talking in the car on the way home, they really did get it! But, I will say, my son is a deep thinker. A, not-the-norm kinda kid. He's an artist, so the cinematography appealed to him. The scenes were so beautiful at some moments. GO see it. Bring your intelligent teens.

    Life of Pi 3D

One of the best movies I've seen in my life. Of course I thought the book was one of the best things I have ever read. Right up there with Zen and the Art of the Motorcycle Maintenance by Pirsig and the Hero's Journey by Joseph Campbell. Religion, faith, the search for God, Life of Pi is a peephole into the universe within. Ang Lee has filmed a story I thought I could only experience in my heart and cortex and made it a feast for my eyes as well. For that, it really is a better story.

    Wowed by "Life of Pi"

Unexpected, emotionally moving and visually riveting, Life of Pi is an off-beat film that grabs the viewer by the seat of the pants and doesn't let go. Exploring themes of human determination, compassion, and our understanding of other species, it takes us on an incredible and suspenseful journey... with a thought-provoking ending.

While it lacks a grand, complex plot and a tidy, satisfying ending, they are scarcely missed for what it does offer -- including gorgeous, stunning cinematography and a masterful performance by the young, central figure. It is one of the few films I've seen in a long time that made me FEEL.

Be forewarned, the movie is intense, with scenes of violence and suffering. I would not recommend it for those under 14.

I forgot I was even in a theatre

    by

This movie was so intense. I got so into it. Besides the impeccable graphics, the meaning of the whole movie really sunk in after I left. I can honestly say it changed me for good. I laughed. I cried. I thought. I learned.

    Breathtaking !!

OK this is my first movie review on Fandango, but had to just put the word out there that if you are not sure whether to see this movie or not,, and whether to see it in 3D or not... like the Nike ads... JUST DO IT!! It is a visual stunner and the story is just so beautiful and so subtle, you will continue to think of it and feel it for days afterward. The 3D enhances the gorgeous cinematography and pulls you right into the movie.. definitely the way to see it AND in a theater, don't wait for it to come out on DVD... it won't be the same.

    Definitely a Must-See!

I thought this movie was amazing. I was touched by the story, and in awe of the special effects. I had just seen a show about the movie which showed that the tiger was computer-generated, but it was so real that my daughter who saw it with me had no idea it was CGI. The young actor who played Pi was incredible, but I was also impressed with the performance of the actor who played him as an older man.

I would definitely recommend this movie to everyone.

    Somewhat of a disappointment

The commercials for this movie looked great. And then we went to see it. It was okay, nothing to rave about. There were many slow parts and the end just wasn't really satisfying. Yes, it is a far-fetched situation, some of it not impossible, but it didn't leave us cheering. We mpst likely would not purchase this movie when it's released on DVD. The 3-D was not exceptional. There were a few moments that I noticed it, but otherwise, the additional cost to see it in 3-D was not worth it. This may have been a better choice to borrow from the library several months from now.

Not what I was hoping for.

Maybe it's because of the hype of the advertising, or maybe because of the comparisons being made to "AVATAR", but after paying to go see "LIFE OF PI" on opening weekend, I have to say I came away somewhat disappointed. When I go to see a movie, I'm going for an entertainment experience. I'm looking to be excited. I'm looking to feel a sense of wonder. I'm not looking to have the movie trying to shove a message into my brain such as "YOU WILL BELIEVE IN GOD!" I felt like I was watching a commercial for religion made by a combination of Hindus, Muslims, and Tea Party Republicans.

I can't say that I enjoyed this movie as much as I had hoped that I would. The ending is rather flat and uneventful. Maybe if you've read the book it is based upon, you'd have a better understanding of what is trying to be conveyed by the movie, but I found it ridiculous and poorly put together and just really did not feel I got my money's worth, even though I used a discounted ticket.

    Outstanding Modern Day Fable

One of the best films of the year. The 3D version adds to the film rather than distracts as in many other 3D efforts. The story is mesmerizing and thought provoking.

Gorgeous, but should've been PG-13 for animal suffering portrayed

    by raele

It was a beautiful movie; well-done in every respect. I read the book and feared the movie would ruin it, but it did not. [No spoiler] I did think it somewhat watered down the reality of who Pi had to become to survive, but it's Disney, and PG, so that was to expected. It was far less watered down than I expected. Really well done. However, I think it could be very disturbing for young children (and myself, an adult!, lol) to see "live" (rather than animated, although it is CGI, but young kids won't see the difference) animals tearing at each other, while alive, and crying out in pain. The danger aspect could be very frightening, too, in the tiger-threatening-boy scenes. Parents should be prepared that kids who really love animals and are sensitive to danger, suspense, and animal suffering might have a tough time with a few scenes.

    Very beautiful thought provoking film

This was an enjoyable film that is rich with meaning. It might take a few viewings to fully understand. I liked it and would watch it again.

    3D Experience

    by

3D exploited at its greatest level. What a fest for the eyes, thanks Ang Lee. Pi is a cast away who lost his family but never hope, and in the way he finds God and himself. Great Irfan Khan who plays adult Pi, sublime.
