    Decent narrative

    by poolski

Awesome 3D. Has a very Indie feel, not for everyone. Good story line, great acting by the main character. Revelation at the end, you won't see it coming. I liked it. A pleasant departure from current action movies, shows a lot of depth.

    Life of Pi

    by

Very good movie. I've read the book & the director did a good job of translating it to the screen. Slow in parts, but its visual feast. Well acted.

    Worthwhile with minor drawbacks

    by BestMom

I read the book many years ago so was anxious to see the movie. It was a worthwhile experience, and my kids who hadn't read the book enjoyed it too! My only complaint was that due to the Indian accent some of the dialogue was a bit difficult to follow. Also I find that movies in 3D tend to be a bit dark so between that and the accent issue I feel like I need to see it a second time to really appreciate it. Also I had forgotten how the ending was frustrating to a certain extent, but it did provide for some lively debate with the kids. The book makes the ending ever so slightly easier to comprehend, though no less frustrating.

    Life of Pi

    by 12Guy

The story is amazing and has a good kicker at the end of the movie sealed the deal. (did not read the book) Lots to talk about with our kids (5&10) after the movie about life choices and the way our brain operates under duress. Visually the movie is worth seeing in 3D for sure! Just magical in many ways for the eyes. You will laugh and cry many times.
And after the movie you will want to eat fish like we did.

    Beautiful interpretation

    by

What a fantastic visual interpretation of the book. My only wish is that they spent less time on the amount of the story before shipwreck - and more on his time stranded. But overall, it was a very good movie.

    Amazing

    by fdlcm

This movie was wonderful. The 3D made it seem like you were there with Pi in the life boat. The deeper meaning of the movie would be lost on children and some parts were too intense for my 7 year old Granddaughter. She and the 10 yo both loved it though. I enjoyed it thoroughly and am planning to read the book.

    Life of Boredom

Life of Pi is a movie that is no doubt visually stunning, and the story is not half bad. I really enjoyed the first 20-30 minutes, but then I just found myself drifting off in the middle, much like our sea-borne PI. The main character is by himself for the balk of the movie and unlike Tom Hanks in Cast Away, I simply did not find him compelling enough to keep my attention (and I think Wilson is more interesting than Richard Parker). The movie is only 2hrs long but it feels longer and there really isn't much of a payoff. Again, the film looks amazing and it really isn't a bad story. You'll just find yourself wishing that there was more going on.

Richard Parker - is he real?

I cannot believe Richard Parker is not a real tiger ? amazing animation! This movie will make you cry & laugh, some of the most beautiful scenery ? it does the book justice. Try to see it in 3D, we were flinching at the items flying off the big screen into our 3D glasses. This movie makes me want to swim at every pool I come across & visit India. Love love love it! 2 thumb's up & worth seeing it on the big screen. I'd even go see it again.

    ANIMAL LOVERS BEWARE!

    by

If you are an animal lover this is not the movie for you. My brother and I (ages 16 and 19) left the theater in tears. Long, detailed scenes of animals that they made you fall in love with, drowning and being eaten.

    LIFE OF PI

MOST EXCELLENT., THIS ADAPTATION OF THE BOOK SHOULD WALK AWAY WITH A FEW AWARDS. IF NOT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE SYSTEM. WONDERFUL VISUALS, GREAT DIALOG, SUPURP ACTING. I WAS THERE THE ENTIRE TWO HOURS WITH THE STORY TELLER.

Run, don't walk to see Life of Pi

I can't imagine ever watching such a stunningly gorgeous movie again. Everything works. See it in 3-D or you'll be shortchanging yourself. I watched once then bought another ticket for the next available showing. I've only ever done that once before for a movie this is compared to in some circles, Avatar. Life of Pi is in a different league from Avatar. It's in a different league, even, than Cast Away. To the critic who thought it was a bit slow in places, you are useless at your current job; do us all a favor and leave criticism to those who know what they're talking about. Ang Lee deserves to sweep the Oscars with this.

Not at all uplifting or moving

    by ehrmana

Just two hours of sad and depressing, with a lot of tedium thrown in for good measure. The ending is the most depressing part of all. Not sure how the story is supposed to convince anyone that there is a god. In fact, it seemed more like the opposite.

Excellent, but see it without 3-D

Beautiful movie, highly recommended. However, the 3-D feature is a gimmick and to me was actually a distraction - I would have preferred the regular version.

    Pondicherri Pi

I read the book months ago and loved it but imagined it to be cinematically impossible. Ang Lee
brought it to life beyond my own visualizations, incorporating the despair, the resourcefulness,
the magic, my love and repect for the directness of the animal world, the unpredictability of the spirit, value and the creation of a good story, and the layers of the spiritual journey. I see it as a masterpiece, written by a master and filmed by one. Magnificent!!!
