    Not to be missed

If you have only one movie to see this holiday season, make it this one. Ang Lee's genius directorial skills combine with superb acting, lush cinematography, and awesome special effects to make for a not-to-be-missed entertainment experience.

    Irrational number

Cinematrographically gorgeous, philosophically and theologically provocative, this movie will keep the thoughtful person engaged, on several levels, long after he/she has left the theater. Aside from being an enjoyable experience, the movie raises questions about the ultimate value of a thoroughly rational approach to dealing with life's vicissitudes (hence, I think, the titular reference to the mathematical constant, pi). Definitely two hours and five minutes well spent.

    Life of Pi

This is the kind of a story that probably wouldn't have been able to be effectively made into a movie 10 years ago...but these days, anything is possible...
Fascinating story, and a visually stunning job of telling it.
    The tiger deserves an award.

    Amazing special effects and story

This was one of the best stories I have heard told in a long time. The special effects were great. My 6 and 9 year old son's thought it was awesome as well.

Life of Pi = Great Visual Effects

Whether you read the book or not, this is a great movie. It is thought provoking but in the end a movie of survival. It is a conversation starter. We saw it in 3D. I think it would be good in either, but fun to see the Tiger jump out at you! The only reason I didn't rate as MUST SEE is because I think this is a movie that many will love, most will like, and some will hate. I loved it.

Fantastic tale that had you guessing at the end - beautiful cinematography

This was a truly magical tale, beautifully shot by Ang Lee, who uses 3D in a way that does not detract from the film, but enhances it and makes you feel as if you are in the film. The story is touching, heartbreaking, funny, and brutal. I definitely recommend it.

    Incredible

I heard of the book and knew not a whole lot about it. Was I incredibly surprised.

This movie is just flat out incredible. It moved me, and has still has me thinking, and even feeling the movie, afterwards. Many have posted good summaries here and I'll just say that you have to see this film to really experience it.

I'm surprised it is not doing better at the box office - it deserves any movie-goers attention to be seen on the big screen.

kinda dumb for adults; probably charming for 10-15

    by dtmf

animal animation is spectacular, so for pure visuals it can be fun, but the plot is silly, the acting rather hystrionic, and the story-within-a-story frame uninteresting. You do NOT learn about religions, since the theology that keeps on coming up is utterly incoherent. Treat this as a movie you take the kids to, no more than that.

great date movie for me and my husband

    by Stac827

we saw the 3D version and it was absolutely stunning to watch. it has a beautiful story, one that makes you reflective about the human experience. I loved watching it with my husband- it was a great drama that appeals to both sexes equally, I thought.

    Awesome

I could not have been more pleased or impressed with this movie. Brilliant all round: acting, Direction, story, effects... everything. An entertaining, meaningful, moving experience. Funny at times, almost horrific at others (but not in a gory, visual way- scary within the mind). The film and Director Ang Lee should both win Oscars.

    Best Movie of 2012!

This is not only the most thought provoking movie in a long, long time, but the story is amazing, and emothional. I have never considered myself an Ang Lee fan, but that has certainly changed. The manner in which he tells this story is simply visually stunning, and will keep you thinking for a long, long time. Great job, in every category!! Thank you for the experience

    Rare, profound, intimate

Some critics have worked hard to come up with things they did not like about The Life of Pi. The story touches upon religions, but does not probe deeply and it does not come up with any conclusions. The story uses a contrived device of the old Pi telling his experience to a journalist. The story is exciting in the middle, and not remarkable anywhere else.

These criticisms seem rubbish to me. It is like watching Gone With the Wind and complaining that the Tarleton Twins did not really look like brothers. The Life of Pi is so unlike any other movie, and so beautiful to look at, it does not have to apologize to anybody. It can be described so simply -- A boy at sea is trapped on a raft with a tiger. He has to figure out how to make the best of it. That is just what it is. The profundity past a certain point must come from us. There is real beauty in the world, and in the ocean. And there is death and suffering. We are bound to taste both. Think of that!

    Admire The Work

A collaboration of this size is a monumental feat and all participants are skilled at their craft. The story is a polytheistic approach to the unanswerable, (what is God, who is God, where is God, why is God) but by movies end the viewer is not any closer to an answer. However the story is enjoyable and the 3D is fun.
