    "Life of Pi" scores

    by Billy58

I thoroughly enjoyed this book when I read it several years ago. The movie doesn't disappoint. Ang Lee does a masterful job of telling the story, and it's not all due to the CG tiger. It's a beautifully constructed and photographed movie. The acting is first-rate. This movie is worth your time and money!!

    Wish I'd seen it in 2D - I think.

My friend and I debated whether to see the 2D or 3D version because both of us have noticed that 2D color and light are much move vivid and sharp than 3D. Hollywood/Silicon Valley really has to fix the problems with 3D. That said, we read Roger Ebert's review which lauded the 3D visuals and enjoyed the film despite or perhaps because of 3D. While kids may enjoy the stunning CGI and cinematography (particularly the seamless joining of the central characters with the sea and rest of the universe), and may be a little scared, there's little gratuitous gore. The tension between the boy and the tiger drives the drama that appeals to adults. It was a little slow at times, reminiscent of "Castaway," but the heart and soul of the story and even more, the stunning visuals were compelling enough to prevent snoozing. Unlike "Castaway," PI was not a story of man vs elements, but interactive, of man and tiger, coming to a peace such as that which we wish for in the Middle East

Beauty, Grace and a Tiger too

A boy with the "god" gene believes in all religions. He survives a shipwreck while sharing a lifeboat with a tiger. His faith is tested and he comes to terms with his prosaic humanity. Or maybe not.

This is not a kiddie movie. There were many children in the audience who were lost in the slow beginning and made noise. But when film picks up steam, the action is powerful and unstoppable. The film is visually stunning with breathtaking scenes of nature. The actors are exceptional, including the tiger. And the lovely ambiguity of the ending saves the film from being merely.sentimental and pious.

A fantastic adventure that touches down with grace..

Kudos to the animal behavior experts who had to be exceptional to make this film.

    Interesting movie

    by kindJay

Beginning was not so good but I enjoyed it, especially his life in the ocean. Beautifully filmed it.
    No sexual contents. Good thing.
Nice movie. I will rate 7/10

    Depth Successfully Conveyed On-screen

    by

If you have read the book, then you might have an idea on what message it was trying to tell through the story of a boy and the Bengal tiger from his father's zoo. In a nutshell, it tells of spirituality, religion and rediscovering or even, discovering faith. The director, Ang Lee did a phenomenal job and made the movie so cinematically breathtaking.

    Life of Pi

Life of Pi is a beautiful, touching story, rendered on film with an immediacy I would not have thought possible. The movie, presented in 3D, is masterfully produced. Until now, I thought 3D was a gimmick, but it's the perfect form for the subject of this movie.

    Very Enjoyable

Life of Pi was engaging with a hidden brilliance. The acting was so smooth that some will underestimate what they just saw. Like the movie DEATHTRAP with Michael Caine and Christopher Reeves, it is not until after the movie that you realize that the whole two hours had just two characters filling the screen. In the LIFE OF PI, there is virtually one character for most of the movie, PI, dominating and driving the plot. Sure there is a back story done in forward/flashbacks. There is the beginning of the story with Pi?s family and neighborhood. But for a very long stretch of film it is only Pi and computer generated animals.

How mature an actor would a young actor have to be to pull this off? On a level of Michael Caine? While not at Caine's level this young actor, Suraj Sharma, pulled it off. If the movie is slow moving at times there is leeway for forgiveness, since this movie is character driven not action driven. But that is just how Director Ang Lee does things.

    Life of Pi

Very powerful, very moving. An absolute MUST SEE! I jumped out of my seat a half dozen times. I cried. I laughed. I walked away still thinking sbout the movie. I saw it in 3D- wonderful!

    Slow gimmicky

    The story a one liner:
"Boy survives a shipwreck with a hallucinated tiger."
Special effects were somewhat hokey. Very little fun to be had. The religious theme
rather heavy. The stranded-at-sea portion way too long.

    Unbelievable cinematography

    by

While my husband and I thought Argo was a very good movie, Life of Pi should have won Best Picture. The story is thoughtful and stayed with us through the evening. The acting is so on point that it doesn't seem like acting: we felt like we were sitting at the kitchen table with the writer as Pi told his story. The visuals were unbelievable. See this in a theater in 3D while you can!

    Well Made

Knowing the "open to interpretation" aspect of the movie, it was certainly not disappointing!
the film making is top-class, well worth watching on a big screen and more so on 3D.

    Life of Pi is Awesome

This was my first 3D movie experience and it was the perfect movie to experience it with. I read the book years ago and could not imagine how they could, accomplish making a movie about it. Well they sure did figure it out. It was amazing and stayed true to the book. I loved it!

    What an amazing film

I,m 72 years old and this is one of the greatest films I've seen. It should win best film and best actor awards for 2012! Also, see it in 3-D.

    way too slow

Not Ang Lee's fun. His vision is always too feminine and too soft for me. This movie is streching too long, it should be at least 1/3 shorter. Beatiful picture though. The theater was not so crowded in a Sunday afternoon, the crowd all ran to Skyfall...

    Fairly well

Seems that Indian movies are slowly adopting the Hollywood style in their productions. I would not say is a good movie because at some point I think the main idea was lost somewhere when the "getting along" between the tiger and the boy was happening. But one could understand what was the idea behind. So it is OK to go an see if as well as waiting for it to rent it in the near future. The 3D version is almost unnecessary , at most a pair of scenes where it delivered, but overall the movie is better experienced in an IMAX without 3D because of the photograph.
