    Life of Pi

Very good film, thoughtfully done, no sex violence or explosions, no excessive use of 3d, I highly recommend this movie, and I will not give away any aspects of the plot or message, as that is what is fun about the movie itself. I will see this one again, and I almost never do that.

    Loved it!!

    by

Fabulously beautiful to watch - will never look at the water in the same way again!

But does not capture the intensity and philosophical substance of the book. Storytelling feels choppy because it does not link Pi's psycho-spiritual experiences with his journey with Richard Parker well. Having said that: Go watch it in 3D without thinking about the book!

    The Photogenic Memory

You can't do very much about what happens to you. But you can do a great deal about how you interpret the events. That's Pi. Enjoy the movie.

    Life of Pi is outstanding

My family went to see Life of Pi last night. Four of the 5 of us had read the book; me just having finished it a week ago. The movie is all that I had hoped it would be - and then some. It's true to the book (what a great job of choosing which parts to include or exclude). The cinematography is great and the acting hits the right notes. The 3D was effective, though I suspect the movie would have been just as good without the 3D. We all loved it, even my 13-year-old who hadn't read the book.

Life of Pi's original storyline and stunning imagery really puts you into the movie itself! Ang Lee has did it again...what a beautiful film. It keep you thinking and questioning long after the movie is over. Highly recommended!!

    Amazing Movie

    by

You'll either love this movie or you will be lost. The story inspires deep intellectual thought. It is the first movie I can say you must see in 3D. It will surely win an award for special effects.

Fantastic tale that had you guessing at the end - beautiful cinematography

This was a truly magical tale, beautifully shot by Ang Lee, who uses 3D in a way that does not detract from the film, but enhances it and makes you feel as if you are in the film. The story is touching, heartbreaking, funny, and brutal. I definitely recommend it.

    Nice to look at but...

There were setbacks to this movie. "Life of Pi," is visually gorgeous which is an identifiable trait of Ang Lee's style but the story of the film just doesn't measure up to the film's on-screen beauty. What does measure up though is the tense appeal of the drama in the film. This movie thrives off the dramatic tension between Pi and Richard Parker. Whether it is adversarial or sentimental, the two characters just deliver intensity whenever one or both is on the screen. The movie has amazing visual effects and that will appeal very well to the audience. The 3D also augments this visual appeal amazingly. This is a great coming-of-age drama but there are moments when the movie just lags. Screenwriter David Magee does a nice job creating the blueprint for Ang Lee to build the world this fantastical journey takes place but there are moments when there is disconnect and abstract symbolism leaves audiences scratching their heads."Life of Pi" is a good movie. More could have been done with it.

    not PG

Visually stunning. Slow. Not realizing it was a hallucinatory allegory the early scenes in the lifeboat were much more violent than I expected. A movie that I wished aftrerwards that I had not seen.

    A compelling story

I saw this with my 14-year-old son. It's a wonderful story that's made more complex and interesting by the fact that the story told may just be a story. Without giving too much away, I highly recommend it for adults and kids alike. It will speak differently to each generation.

    Life of Pi

As expected, Ang Lee has shown us that by slowing down our perception of the fast paced lane of life and observing all of the passion and beauty of life as it comes to all of us, we are a much better species to share this earth. This film is a perfectly paced story telling success. Never shying away from the sometimes brutality of life and our perception of what "is" and what "isn't", the visual achievement is simply stunning. On the surface, the story is a typical coming of age piece that has some glossy plot twists but in the end, it becomes much more than the story of a young man, it is a story of the wonderment, beauty and ultimate survival of all of us in the harsh environment of the world. Pretty predictable in the basic plot, Lee has woven a very interesting and exciting story accented by the most stunning visuals available. It is well worth seeing this film in 3D as the technology never gets in the way of the beauty of the story line.

    Pi is a feast!

Life of Pi is a visual feast. If the story appeals to you so much the better. But the visual journey alone is more then enough to satisfy.

A story that will make you believe in God

    by naiteek

Fabulous romp through an imagination. The film is expertly crafted by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ang Lee, it features an amazing debut performance from actor Suraj Sharma, it has perhaps the most beautiful water and aquatic life ever depicted on film, and there?s a big Bengal tiger just waiting for you to show it love.

    Very beautiful thought provoking film

This was an enjoyable film that is rich with meaning. It might take a few viewings to fully understand. I liked it and would watch it again.
