    Life Of Pi

I had read this book may years ago. I had picked it out because i liked the cover, and didn't know anything about it. It turned out to be one of the best books I had ever read. I could never imagine in a thousand years anyone being able to make a movie of that book. Years later, they did, and it's simply stunning, amazing, beautiful, wonderful, and disturbing; all the things the book was. This movie is a masterpiece. When it was over, everyone clapped. When the credits were finished, everyone in the theater, everyone, just sat there, talking, discussing. No one left until 5 minutes after the movie credits ended. If that isn't a recommendation, I don't know what is. By the way, I am NOT religious. You don't have to be to love this movie. Well done, Ang Lee.

    Very Reflectful

    by

This movie will stay in your mind long after you leave the theater. And whether you get the message you thought you would receive... "And so it is..."

    slow and difficult

While the 3D version was beautiful, the story is so slow and difficult to watch in the boat, that I was squirming, and just waiting for a rescue. Day after day of unrealistic scorching sun and no fresh water, but 227 days passed, or nearly an hour of the two hour movie! The computer animation of the tiger was astoundingly real. This movie is a cross between the Jesus-figure of the lion in Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe, meets A Perfect Storm. You too will believe in God after surviving this movie.

    Loved it!!

Fabulously beautiful to watch - will never look at the water in the same way again!

But does not capture the intensity and philosophical substance of the book. Storytelling feels choppy because it does not link Pi's psycho-spiritual experiences with his journey with Richard Parker well. Having said that: Go watch it in 3D without thinking about the book!

    Depth Successfully Conveyed On-screen

    by

If you have read the book, then you might have an idea on what message it was trying to tell through the story of a boy and the Bengal tiger from his father's zoo. In a nutshell, it tells of spirituality, religion and rediscovering or even, discovering faith. The director, Ang Lee did a phenomenal job and made the movie so cinematically breathtaking.

Life of Pi: An Interesting and Provocative Movie

    by Ramcee

I liked this film very much altho I found it a bit too long. I guess it didn't help that I pretty much knew before hand how it would end. I also found so many improbabilities that I couldn't keep up with them. I was, however, deeply moved by the main theme: A boy growing up and coming to grip both with implacable nature, the nature of God, and the value of religious faith in a universe indifferent to human concerns. I thought the acting was excellent. The main character, Pi, was charming an convincing from beginning to end. The cinematography was truly stunning but I think the writing could have been better, as well as the editing. As for the direction, I think this was pure Ang Lee in an extraordinary effort. As the story of a young man triumphantly confronting tremendous adversity, I won't be surprised to see Pi nominated for best actor, direction, cinematography, and special effects. One final note, I believe the movie is a very serious piece of work not apt for kids.

    Great Mystical Story and Puzzle

The journey and struggle of one young man to survive against all odds is frightening, inspiring, and sometimes humorous. Will make all but the brain dead think about their own lives and journey. Would not recommend for under 16 years of age. Amazingly realistic video of even the most fantastical makes it all feel real. Makes Castaway seem like a "B" movie!

    Excellent Movie - Well Made

    by fern32

A very deep movie on life and ones beliefs. Very good movie for children as it is inspirational and a lesson to understand what life has to offer and when all fails only ones faith can make them survive.

Couldn't hold back the tears on the sad parts, but then there was a great uplift throughout the
story bringing as many smiles as there were tears. Loved it!! Will certainly buy to add to my

    Allegory lives!

    by Pi1965

The film was great. I have not read the book, but I am now so inclined.

Reading some of the other reviews frustrated me--some Americans are enamored by the visual affects that computer graphics have wrought; some Americans are so literal they no longer recognize allegory. To the individual who thought this movie was preaching religion, you are probably one of the most literal in your interpretations of narratives.

This movie was about a sensitive boy, who grew into a sensitive, intelligent man after enduring a horrible tragedy. He was a seeker--not particularly beholden to any religion, but needing in his soul a reason for why we are, where we are and who we are.

By looking the tiger in the eyes, and learning to communicate around its primal urges, he discovered the beast we all have within us that must be tamed. TIme and time again humans have failed to recognize how to channel their primal natures. Wars, holocausts, genocides, darkness are often the result.

Life of Pi - Must Go!

Entertaining from start to finish with lots of fun humor mixed in. 3D was okay, but I would have easily enjoyed the non-3D version just as much. The tiger is amazing!
