    My daughters first movie tears.

Outstanding movie, great for ages 7 and up. There are a couple of scenes where animals die at the jaws of a predator, that is the only reason for my age suggestion. Incredible story, great cinema tics. On the way home my 9 year old daughter confided in me that she cried a little in a couple of scenes, her first tears while watching a movie. Tears of compassion for animals. We both loved the movie, I say it is a must see.

    Life of Pi

I went with my 16 year old son and we both LOVED it. Not only is the filming done well, the story is more than just a fantasy...There is so much depth to it with Pi's search for God & his search for his place in life. Even at the end when Pi as the older man is interviewed, there are still twists and turns that come up that leave you thinking as you walk out of the movie. This is one of the best movies I have ever seen!

    A must go

I've don't remember a movie with four 100 ratings from the critics. My girlfriend gave it 100, I give it 97. It's amazing faithful to the book and beautifully photographed. The special effects are great. The computerized cat is amazing. If your idea of a great movie is explosion after explosion and a hero who beats up lot of people without getting scratched, forget this one. If you want something that makes you think a little while being entertained. this is a must-see.

Beauty, Grace and a Tiger too

A boy with the "god" gene believes in all religions. He survives a shipwreck while sharing a lifeboat with a tiger. His faith is tested and he comes to terms with his prosaic humanity. Or maybe not.

This is not a kiddie movie. There were many children in the audience who were lost in the slow beginning and made noise. But when film picks up steam, the action is powerful and unstoppable. The film is visually stunning with breathtaking scenes of nature. The actors are exceptional, including the tiger. And the lovely ambiguity of the ending saves the film from being merely.sentimental and pious.

A fantastic adventure that touches down with grace..

Kudos to the animal behavior experts who had to be exceptional to make this film.

    Life of Pi

absolutely loved it. It does tribute to the book, the acting is wonderful and it has completely divided my family...half (like myself) would give it an A+ and the other half just did not get it. Unfortunately

    amazing

I laughed, cried and jump everytime Pi had an encounter with the Tigar. This was an amazing movie. I was so engrossed in it, I forgot it was only a movie and the animals weren't real. I felt for Pi and the struggle to survive and his faith in God to keep him going.
I would not recommend this for children under 12. A little too violent at some areas even though it was all part of life and survival,

    Life of PI

I thought this movie would mirror the theme of the Black Stallion, where boy and animal are shipped wreck and have an adventurous time surviving, ultimately becoming close friends.......I was wrong. This is really not a family movie and I would not recommend it for children as some of the scenes are intense. The movie does start off slow and by the time you get to the part with the ship sinking you are eager for the movie to pick up pace. It was not at all what I thought the movie was going to be but it was still was entertaining.

    Incredible

I heard of the book and knew not a whole lot about it. Was I incredibly surprised.

This movie is just flat out incredible. It moved me, and has still has me thinking, and even feeling the movie, afterwards. Many have posted good summaries here and I'll just say that you have to see this film to really experience it.

I'm surprised it is not doing better at the box office - it deserves any movie-goers attention to be seen on the big screen.

    Allegory lives!

    by Pi1965

The film was great. I have not read the book, but I am now so inclined.

Reading some of the other reviews frustrated me--some Americans are enamored by the visual affects that computer graphics have wrought; some Americans are so literal they no longer recognize allegory. To the individual who thought this movie was preaching religion, you are probably one of the most literal in your interpretations of narratives.

This movie was about a sensitive boy, who grew into a sensitive, intelligent man after enduring a horrible tragedy. He was a seeker--not particularly beholden to any religion, but needing in his soul a reason for why we are, where we are and who we are.

By looking the tiger in the eyes, and learning to communicate around its primal urges, he discovered the beast we all have within us that must be tamed. TIme and time again humans have failed to recognize how to channel their primal natures. Wars, holocausts, genocides, darkness are often the result.

    Disappointed

    by

The book was SOOOO much better. Big surprise. I was expecting realness because the book was so real, but the film was just 3-D fluff... Visually it was good, but Life of Pi is about the STORY. The visual I had in my mind while reading the book was sooo much better than what the movie produced. Some scenes were amazing, but the emotion and the darkness just wasn't there. I didn't care for the narrating throughout the film. I LOVED how Richard Parker was done. I can picture ways that the whole production could have soared and instead it just fell flat. Older Pi (Suraj Sarma's) acting was good, but it still didn't have that UMPH that it needed that he seemed capable of. I think too much time was spent trying to make it 3-D Hollywood fabulous and not enough time spent trying to make it Life of Pi, simple yet stunning & fantastic. It was a disappointment, totally devoid of the raw emotion felt throughout the book. Sigh. But hey the kids will like it.

    Visually Stunning

    by djbress

Explores the boundaries of movie making (similar in that sense to Avatar) by it's use of special effects to blur the distinctions between thought and reality. Deep underpinning of unanswerable (and unanswered) questions about God and Goodness.

    A fantastic world of imagination!

Both my husband and I loved this movie, it was great! The scenes were beautiful, and not even a second of the story bored us, it was really touching. And all the actors did great job including the animals!

    Loved this movie

I never go to movies (usually wait to view On Demand) but, since I read the book, I felt this was something I wanted to view on the big screen. I'm so glad I did. I thought the movie was beautifully shot and was very true to the book. I've never seen a 3-D movie before but I think this movie was enhanced by it. Not for children but, for adults, worth the watch.

A fantastic movie. People clapped at the end!

The photography was stunning, the story original and very deep. The acting was very good.

We have already recommended it to many of our friends. It is a story that stays with you long after the movie....

    WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

I loved this movie. It was beautiful and the story had me from the very first scene. The 2 main actors are wonderful. See this in 3D if at all possible. It was lovely. Ladies, bring some kleenex.
