    Spectacularly Beautiful

I read this book many years ago and loved it. I could never imagine this book being made into a great movie, let alone any movie. But it stayed true to the book for the most part, didn't lose any of the magic and in fact was even more magical. The special effects (including the tiger) were beyond description and not just gimmicks but dreams brought to the screen. A terrific movie.

    Watch the 2D...if that.

    by

I've concluded that the only movies worth paying 3D prices for are the Pixar movies. This movie lacked visual depth. I was expecting the animals in this movie to jump out at me and was disappointed see zero difference when I took off my 3D glasses.

Overall, Life of Pi was tedious to watch because it tried to be Avatar, Castaway, The Namesake, and Animal Kingdom all at the same time. If Ang Lee had just honed in on two of the four, like Avatar and Animal Kingdom, the movie would have been much more memorable. After all, the Bengali tiger's performance (whether cgi-induced or not) was nothing short of a miracle. Scenes like the flying fish hurricane, the carnivorous island, and the whale spotting gave Avatar a run for its money. None of this grandeur deserved to be reigned in by a self-absorbed "what does this all mean" narrative at the end of the movie.

    outstanding!

    by SOKOON

One of the best movies I've seen in a long time. The visuals were amazing and landed both reality and surrealism to the storyline. There are a lot of lessons to be learned here.........about belief, perseverance, a will to survive unfathomable odds.....care for another....even a "vicious" animal. Go to this movie with an open mind and come out with some wisdom about life.

    Loved this movie

    by RR_jim

Fantastic visual effects. Casting of Pi as he ages from boy to man was right on. The tiger is absolutly convincing and terrifying. I think this movie is too frightening for little kids. The fantastical imagery of the ocean as a living system of imense power and beauty is a little over the top, but if you put yourself in the miind of a dying, halucinating castaway it works. The symbolism of the book became much more meaningful to me after seeing this movie. If you liked the book, I think you'll love the movie.

    Awesome Experience

    by

Firstly, I recommend watching it in 3D. Hats Off! to the director of Ang Lee, the Art Dept., Visual effects team, Animators and all of the Actors in this movie. This movie is not just a visual treat but also carries a 'Message' that you bring back home from the movie theatre.

    Life of Pi..3D

I liked the Movie overall. It had a decent and interesting Text, great scenary, nice acting and made me care about the charactors but it develooped slowly and never picked up a pace that I liked. It is definetly worth seeing but don't be in a hurry...

An amazing tale that draws you in

Pictorially beautiful, this amazing film has lingered with me long after most films I see are gone from my thoughts. It is rich in thought-provoking metaphors and yet -- for those who don't want to go deeper -- it's an amazing adventure story. Ang Lee has crafted a masterpiece.

    Visually Stunning

The Life of Pi is an excellent movie. While it is somewhat new age in its approach to religion, the concept of turning to God for help is a real strength of the message of the movie. See the movie in 3D! While I have not seem the 2D version, I cannot imagine the visual effects having the same impact as the 3D version. This was a beautifully made movie, with visually stunning effects. A must see!

    LIFE of PI

    by

LIFE of PI took me on a awesome journey of life, faith and culture! The graphics and special effects along with the 3D experience really brought the story to life. There was never a dull moment and I was captivated throughout the entire film. This film is Oscar worthy and a must see for all ages.

    Must See!

    by lto2633

an Incredible production- if you have not eaten ice cream before you go..... had restlest leg syndrome the whole time---- and wanted the movie to be finished early- but seriously, a movie that will last the test of time, and get you out of your box with your thinking and help you realize there is so much mystery and beauty in this world.

    My daughters first movie tears.

Outstanding movie, great for ages 7 and up. There are a couple of scenes where animals die at the jaws of a predator, that is the only reason for my age suggestion. Incredible story, great cinema tics. On the way home my 9 year old daughter confided in me that she cried a little in a couple of scenes, her first tears while watching a movie. Tears of compassion for animals. We both loved the movie, I say it is a must see.

    Life of Pie.

Maintains faithful aspects of the novel while providing the proper narrative style; in particular, the 3D was well employed without being obvious.
    ---

My story is much too sad to be told,
But practically everything leaves me totally cold.
The expression of fear on my face
When I'm shipwrecked out in the sea,
    Fighting vainly and sooooo hungry,
And I suddenly turn and see a fabulous place.

I feel so sick, even some pain.
Meerkat soufflé doesn't thrill me at all.
So tell me why can it be true
that I get disgusted by you.

Some, they may say I?m insane.
    Anyone would do the same
If they were shipwrecked with you too.
Yes, I get disgusted by you.

So I killed you when I saw
    You standing there before me.
You didn't think I had it in me but like
    You totally deserved it!

I get so kick, starving is lame,
    Caught me a turtle today,
so I?ll eat it and make a cool shield with it too.
But I get so sick, that you ate that guy?s foot!!
    I get disgusted by yoooooouu!!

I was skeptical, now I am a believer!

    by

I have been a fan of the novel for ten years, and I was always on the fence about a translation to film; would it retain its descriptive beauty, will the movies more subtle moments be replaced with typical movie action? Most importantly, will the overall message of the book be lost in a big budget Hollywood production? I am happy to say that the movie exceeds in many aspects, and even surpasses the book in others. I always had to use my imagination to describe the incredible wonders Pi must have seen in his journey, but Ang Lee has taken the guess work out of the book and created a beautifully affecting work of cinema. This movie will make you question your own life, the trials you are sometimes thrust into, and how your actions affect your every waking moment. Go see this movie with an open mind, and you will not come away without understanding yourself in some new way. Also, Richard Parker? Best onscreen animal, ever!

    PI

Excellent movie for adults & teens. Wouldn't take children younger than 10 or 12. Saw the 3D version & probably could have enjoyed the digital just as well. Cinematography was fantastic, great story - left you thinking at the end.

    Life of Pi Reviewed

There is some philosophical discussion waiting to be opened when you watch this movie, though it could be better if one read the book first which I wish I had managed to do (I only got to skim parts of the book). Spoiler alert: the two stories give you a choice to make near the end, which you are gently pushed by not only one's faith in the world being a place of meaning, but also by the storyteller's words to which story God would have chosen too. It leaves one with doubt, and only faith can make one right again because the faith in the world being a place of meaning leads one to not be able to accept the more gruesome and meaningless of the two stories. It is about philosophy and hope. It has awesome graphics but I unfortunately was seated too far back on a smaller screen theatre to fully enjoy the effects of the "filmed in 3D" masterpiece.
