    Life of Pi is outstanding

My family went to see Life of Pi last night. Four of the 5 of us had read the book; me just having finished it a week ago. The movie is all that I had hoped it would be - and then some. It's true to the book (what a great job of choosing which parts to include or exclude). The cinematography is great and the acting hits the right notes. The 3D was effective, though I suspect the movie would have been just as good without the 3D. We all loved it, even my 13-year-old who hadn't read the book.

    Amazing

This movie was a treat. Cinematic. Touching. The primary actor playing Pi was phenomenal. If you want to see a movie that will make you FEEL something, and that has something to say about the human experience, this is for you. If you're only interested in mind-numbing blockbusters (not that there's anything wrong with that; I like those too) you may want to stay away. Ang Lee has created a masterpiece here IMO.

    Amazing story and scenery!

This movie was truly amazing in both its storytelling and visuals. I haven't seen a movie of this caliber in a long time. You could tell that the creators took pride and care in sharing this story.

    Loved it!!!

I'll recommend it for all the family. It is one of the best movies I have ever seen, in all aspects: actors, theme, music, etc. it's a candidate for the Oscar, best movie and best director, Ang Lee.

    What a Life!

After having read the astounding book, I wanted to see Ang Lee's movie. Although I could do without the 3D, I very much like this film. My adult daughter and husband were also impressed.

Beyond what I thought could be done

This was magical. I have read the book, never would I have thought the movie could not only capture, but so totally enhance it, as to be magical. Brilliant work by Ang Lee...

Epic journey through an incredible story

Also some preverbal life contemplation thrown in. The 3D effects are second to none and raise the bar for subsequent movies. Makes you really consider if such a situation could occur. .

    Pondicherri Pi

I read the book months ago and loved it but imagined it to be cinematically impossible. Ang Lee
brought it to life beyond my own visualizations, incorporating the despair, the resourcefulness,
the magic, my love and repect for the directness of the animal world, the unpredictability of the spirit, value and the creation of a good story, and the layers of the spiritual journey. I see it as a masterpiece, written by a master and filmed by one. Magnificent!!!

    Not your usual fair......

Fresh, enthralling with more than just a hind of eastern mystersism this film is everything you thought it might be and then some. Visually it is a cornucopia of illusion and fantasy. Escapism at it's ultimate while displaying the indomitable complexities and contradictions contained in the human spirit. It is rare these days to find a film so far removed from the grinding formulated mediocrity typically turned out by tinsel-town these days.

I was skeptical, now I am a believer!

    by

I have been a fan of the novel for ten years, and I was always on the fence about a translation to film; would it retain its descriptive beauty, will the movies more subtle moments be replaced with typical movie action? Most importantly, will the overall message of the book be lost in a big budget Hollywood production? I am happy to say that the movie exceeds in many aspects, and even surpasses the book in others. I always had to use my imagination to describe the incredible wonders Pi must have seen in his journey, but Ang Lee has taken the guess work out of the book and created a beautifully affecting work of cinema. This movie will make you question your own life, the trials you are sometimes thrust into, and how your actions affect your every waking moment. Go see this movie with an open mind, and you will not come away without understanding yourself in some new way. Also, Richard Parker? Best onscreen animal, ever!

    PI

Excellent movie for adults & teens. Wouldn't take children younger than 10 or 12. Saw the 3D version & probably could have enjoyed the digital just as well. Cinematography was fantastic, great story - left you thinking at the end.

    Life of Pi

    by Frank X

What a cool movie! Not quite 3D mandatory, but the CGI was absolutely marvelous. The plot caught me off guard, adding to the circumference of the story (and the fun of watching it on the big screen).

    The Life of Pi

    by Zoey60

I saw the 3D version. The visual and graphic effects were great, but 3D seems to skew real life images, especially heads.
Overall I loved the movie. It is not the typical stranded at sea after a shipwreck story. I recommend to all!
