    Very Reflectful

    by

This movie will stay in your mind long after you leave the theater. And whether you get the message you thought you would receive... "And so it is..."

    Life of PI

    by

Took my kids to see this movie in 3D. Excellent storyline, great visual effects and captivating from start to finish. We all enjoyed. A must get on DVD for my collection of second-looks.

    Life of Pi Reviewed

There is some philosophical discussion waiting to be opened when you watch this movie, though it could be better if one read the book first which I wish I had managed to do (I only got to skim parts of the book). Spoiler alert: the two stories give you a choice to make near the end, which you are gently pushed by not only one's faith in the world being a place of meaning, but also by the storyteller's words to which story God would have chosen too. It leaves one with doubt, and only faith can make one right again because the faith in the world being a place of meaning leads one to not be able to accept the more gruesome and meaningless of the two stories. It is about philosophy and hope. It has awesome graphics but I unfortunately was seated too far back on a smaller screen theatre to fully enjoy the effects of the "filmed in 3D" masterpiece.

    slow and difficult

While the 3D version was beautiful, the story is so slow and difficult to watch in the boat, that I was squirming, and just waiting for a rescue. Day after day of unrealistic scorching sun and no fresh water, but 227 days passed, or nearly an hour of the two hour movie! The computer animation of the tiger was astoundingly real. This movie is a cross between the Jesus-figure of the lion in Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe, meets A Perfect Storm. You too will believe in God after surviving this movie.

Too long, dragged at the end

Yes, there are a lot of messages in this film.....if you can pick up on that type of thing. 'Richard Parker', the computer generated tiger is definitely 'alive' in the film. The other graphics are well done.
The story drags and I kept wondering how much longer would the film continue. Glad when it ended. Not sure if kids under 12 (?) would enjoy it.

    SEE IT.

    by

As one who's read the book, the moving was amazing. I was thoroughly surprised at how accurately the book was portrayed in the film. The acting was also spectacular. All three Pi's were wonderful; you felt as though you really knew Pi Patel by the end of the movie. You really experience his journey and loneliness. The cinematography is beautifully stunning. Much better than Avatar by a long shot. It's a work of art. This movie is a must-see for everyone. Even if you haven't read the book, it conveys powerful messages that really make you think and you're left with so many questions, it's impossible not to think about.

    Bigger than life

    by Olympia

EXCELLENT 3D movie. Really glad we chose to see it in 3D. Great story. It was recommended I go see the movie before I read the book. Now I can't wait to read the book. The tiger is amazing. You can't tell what are special effect graphics and what is real. The waves in the ocean come alive! Go see it. You won't be sorry.

    Enthralling Film!

I came into the theater not expecting too much as I usually decline PG rated movies, however I was very pleasantly surprised with both the integrity of the 3D and the story line itself, which was far deeper and meaningful then a typical PG rated movie. I was left wandering weather the animals represented an allegory or were meant as the real representation of PI's adventure and drama, either way well worth a trip in 3D!

    Great Film

    by Wien

Read the book when it came out in the U.K. and loved it. I was skeptical that it could ever be a viable script and film. It is a great film. The acting is excellent, the camera work, the script, the sound.

Oh and by the way, this is not a children's movie. Not because of the content but because they won't understand it. Several parents walked out with their toddlers and 6/7 year-olds.

Great family movie. We saw it in 3D. It was worth it. My husband and both kids enjoyed it. I liked the way the story was told

    Life of Pi

Visually stunning, well-acted, amazing special effects. The narration, however, distracted from the unfolding story, and did not measure up to the book. Recommendation: read the book!

Visually amazing movie - great use of 3D to enhance - uplifting story

While dramas are not my cup of tea, I have to admit that this movie is very compelling, from both a visual and narrative standpoint. Some of the imagery is very breathtaking and the director uses the 3D to really immerse you in the story.

Terrible spotlight on the whole movie ruined the 3D effect

    by jln71

VERY good movie, unfortunately we saw it at the Grossmont Cinema instead of the new Arclight at University Town Center...That movie was ruined because of an overhead spotlight that was dimmed, but for some inexplicable reason...left on...the entire movie! Shining down from the ceiling in the center of the theater, it caused a reflection on the 3D glasses, washing out the effect. MAybe it was because I wear glasses, but UTC was outstanding compared to Grossmont. I mentioned it to an employee as I left, and they did nothing. 6 people in our group attended , and 3 had the same problem. I SHOULD have gotten a refund for 4 people.

Anyway..very good movie, NOT Avatar, as it is entirely different...more cerebral, slower moving, good effects from what I could see.

    Good but not great

    by

This movie had all the opportunities to be a great one. Personally, I feel like the director/producers of this movie really failed to create that "feeling" all great movies give you. I was entertained while watching it and the use of some comedic situations made it even more entertaining. However adorable and awesome the animals were(and they were) it doesn't make up for the lack of connection the story makes with the audience. I was impressed with some of the imaging that was in this movie but it seemed to be very repetitive of colors and theme of lighting. Good movie but I was not impressed with the overall picture's structure.
