    Life of Pi

I went to see Pi because of the great reviews I've heard about the cinematography. Not being familiar with the book, I was more or less expecting a Disney type family film. Boy was I wrong. While the movie was visually spectacular, the story itself was equally incredible. Being quite an animal lover, some of the scenes were really disturbing. I'm not sure this movie would be appropriate for younger children. I guess visually stunning, great story-line, and disturbing action sequences are all one could hope for in one film. Also, I'm not a fan of 3-D movies but I wouldn't recommend seeing this one any other way. A must see.

    Life of Pi 3D

This is a must see movie. A fantastic production for all ages. I loved it. It is one of the rare instances when the movie is actually better than the book.

Epic journey through an incredible story

Also some preverbal life contemplation thrown in. The 3D effects are second to none and raise the bar for subsequent movies. Makes you really consider if such a situation could occur. .

kinda dumb for adults; probably charming for 10-15

    by dtmf

animal animation is spectacular, so for pure visuals it can be fun, but the plot is silly, the acting rather hystrionic, and the story-within-a-story frame uninteresting. You do NOT learn about religions, since the theology that keeps on coming up is utterly incoherent. Treat this as a movie you take the kids to, no more than that.

    Life of Pi

This is the kind of a story that probably wouldn't have been able to be effectively made into a movie 10 years ago...but these days, anything is possible...
Fascinating story, and a visually stunning job of telling it.
    The tiger deserves an award.

    The Photogenic Memory

You can't do very much about what happens to you. But you can do a great deal about how you interpret the events. That's Pi. Enjoy the movie.

    As good as the book!

I have been a fan of the book for years. The movie does not disappoint. I saw it in IMAX 3D and was enchanted nd amazed!

    Awesome

I could not have been more pleased or impressed with this movie. Brilliant all round: acting, Direction, story, effects... everything. An entertaining, meaningful, moving experience. Funny at times, almost horrific at others (but not in a gory, visual way- scary within the mind). The film and Director Ang Lee should both win Oscars.

    Life of Pi is outstanding

My family went to see Life of Pi last night. Four of the 5 of us had read the book; me just having finished it a week ago. The movie is all that I had hoped it would be - and then some. It's true to the book (what a great job of choosing which parts to include or exclude). The cinematography is great and the acting hits the right notes. The 3D was effective, though I suspect the movie would have been just as good without the 3D. We all loved it, even my 13-year-old who hadn't read the book.

    not PG

Visually stunning. Slow. Not realizing it was a hallucinatory allegory the early scenes in the lifeboat were much more violent than I expected. A movie that I wished aftrerwards that I had not seen.

    Beautifully made!

A moving story, Life of Pi blends fantasy and reality with great sensitivity and creativity. The acting by Irfan Khan and Suraj Sharma is touching and real. Ang Lee shows how large the scope of his creativity and sensitivity is. The use of 3D enhances the emotional impact, so this movie should be enxperienced in 3D.
This is a great family movie.

    Incredible

I heard of the book and knew not a whole lot about it. Was I incredibly surprised.

This movie is just flat out incredible. It moved me, and has still has me thinking, and even feeling the movie, afterwards. Many have posted good summaries here and I'll just say that you have to see this film to really experience it.

I'm surprised it is not doing better at the box office - it deserves any movie-goers attention to be seen on the big screen.

Best movie I've seen this year

Life of Pi's original storyline and stunning imagery really puts you into the movie itself! Ang Lee has did it again...what a beautiful film. It keep you thinking and questioning long after the movie is over. Highly recommended!!

    Beautiful, lyrical, fascinating, and moving

Wonderful ideas, wonderful cinematography, wonderful acting, wonderful animal wrangling, beautiful story telling. An incredible, gorgeous, lush, spectacular, film, exquisitely realized.

Even the editing is worthy of mention -- I have rarely seen a film, especially one involving a LOT of different kinds of special effects, that "read" as seamlessly as this one. It's the kind of film that you don't want to get too specific about because it's important not to look for any one thing in it, and you don't want to offer any spoilers.

If you like films that offer something a little deeper than straight ahead narration, go. If you like films that explore the relationship between animals and humans, go. If you like action and adventure (but don't mind the other things which are just as important), go. If you like sheer beauty -- go.

Just go. And go see it in a theater. This is a movie that will be nice on a small screen, but really is fabulous on the big one.

    Life of PI

Not what I expected from the trailers. Started out a little slow, but once it got going, it was quite good. Special effects in 3D were awesome. Well worth the trip to the theater. The animal attacks may prove troublesome for younger viewers.
