Good movie, but not as good as the book

I enjoyed the movie, but not as much as the book, but that seems to be the case with most movies. Some of the character development was weak, especially with Haymitch, but the acting was well done. Also, Peeta and Haymitch were not as I pictured them as I read the book, so that threw me off a bit. I did like how the movie brought in more of the political situation than was explained in the book. I would recommend seeing the movie, and I am looking forward to the next one.

    Hunger Games quick review

Attended with a 10-year-old, 12-year-old, another mom and I who had all read the books, and 2 dads who had not. The dads were very disturbed, the others of us knew what to expect and were only slightly disappointed by some of the glaring elements that were missing from the book. All in all it was fairly true to the story, but certainly the book provided the background needed so people could understand what was happening. For example - not seeing Haymitch fall off the stage - indicating early on his PTSD managed by drinking, and not seeing the bread delivered from Rue's district were elements that we were sorry had been left out as they seem to help develop what happens later in the story. However, it was entertaining and did cover the basics of the story, without overly gratuitous violence that would make it unsuitable for young teens. I strongly recommend reading the book in advance though, it really does provide the background you need to understand the film.

    Pure epicosity

    by

The movie was amazing. It stuck to the book very well, and the actors portrayed their parts very well. It was gory, but in a good way. It made it more realistic. The only thing I didnt like was how they showed the mutts. In the movie, they just looked like overgrown, angry dogs. If they were smaller, they could have been classifided as "cute." The book described them as ugly, almosr deformed, rabid creatures. Other than that, it was all around, an awesome movie.

    AWESOME

The Hunger Games showcase at the IMAX Magic Theatre in MD was indeed an awesome experience. The costumes and the drama made it a was very exciting and entertaining movie. It's truly a must-see!

    The book in fast forward

Fantastic job! I took people who read the book and people who didn't. Both came away satisfied. There were a few places in the movie that they could have been true to the book, and they weren't, like when she shouted "Peeta" after they announced there could be two winners, but other than that, I think they captured the tone and pacing perfectly.

    Excellent Movie

Ok where do I begin, from her sacrifice for her sister Prim. to her sad emotional connection and lost of Rue. I fell in love with Katniss. Peeta did not look like I had envisioned himI thought he would be taller and darker features like Gale very handsome. They picked the perfect actors for Caesar and Haymitch characters. Lenny Kravitz did and exceptional job as Cinna. As for the others they fit their roles perfectly especially Effie perfect portrayal of her.Would definitely see again, but only in IMAX.

    Added to my favorites list

I loved this movie. I am a huge fan of the books and I think they did a great job sticking to the feel of the book. I know you can't get every thing that is in the books into the movie and since we couldn't be in Katniss' heas I loved the additions that were made. The control room and Seneca Crane were the best addtions. The interactions between Seneca and Snow were brilliant. The acting was well done all around, minus the first scene with Gale. Elizabeth Banks was amazing, Josh Hutcherson was Peeta, you can't help but love him. And of course, Jennifer Lawrence was phenominal. She is the next great actress.

    the hunger games

The movie was very entertaining & well written. It's contents were very disturbing. I realize that the movie is based on a book , however, the thought or fantasy of a "reality show" becoming an event such as this, I feel, is disturbing, especially to our youth.

    So Good!

As a huge fanboy reader of The Hunger Games series, I am very satisfied with how the movie turned out. It is definitely an amazing piece of film and I'm glad Lionsgate is taking this franchise very seriously. Of course there are a lot of things they either cut out or changed compared to the book but that is being very nit picky. However, there are elements in the plot that if a person who hasn't read the books saw it might be a little confused. Overall though, the movie is great

Can't possibly live up to the hype

There are many things right with this movie, but many things that could have been better. I never read the books. That makes me more able to judge this strictly as a movie than someone who is a "book based" viewer. To sum up on a scale of 1 to 5: camera work -1 - the frenetic camera work doesn't help the action scenes; acting - 2 - too cartoony; sound - 5 - lots of explosions make IMAX an ideal choice to see the movie; pace - unbelievably slow in some places. I wish I could give this movie higher marks. I was looking forward to it. It just wasn't all that good.

    The Hunger Games

This was a great movie so glad I went to see it! This movie isn't a movie for kids it's rated pg-13 for a reason. The acting was good. It is a movie I would watch again.

    Hungry for more Hunger games

Very well done. Covered almost all the book points with only a few unsatisfying changes. Like the "Twilight" series - the first one is a little rough around the edges, but they really brought the book to life. The characters were very believable and the scenery was pretty spot on. My 14 year old said ".....it's not the same movie she saw in her head, but it was still great to see it on the big screen."

    Not so great on IMAX

    by

I love IMAX. Especially IMAX 3D. Hunger Games was not so great on the IMAX, and wasn't 3D (a shame!). Much of the movie is filmed in a hand-held style that isn't at all steady. It reminded me of all the bad qualities of the Blair Witch Project. On a smaller screen this might be OK (although I doubt it--I don't like jerky camera cinematography), but on the large, immersive screen, I nearly got motion sickness from the technique. I got ot the point where I felt like yelling, "OK, I get it. Can you please make the camera stand still for just one minute!!"

The movie itself was pretty good; lush costumes, great scenery, pretty good acting overall. Plus I love Donald Sutherland.

Considering that this is a movie that is playing to packed crowds in extra screens at other theaters, the IMAX only had about 6-8 other folks in attendance when I went--6 pm the Thur after opening. My recommendation: see it on a smaller screen, save some money, and avoid the need for dramamine.

    IMAX experience was incredible.

The movie was entertaining, but I strongly recommend seeing it on IMAX. After experiencing an IMAX movie, I'll never go back to a traditional screen. Amazing!

    Intense, long but enjoyable

Did not read the books but was able to follow and enjoy the movie. There are scenes of intense violence during the games but the violence was not gratuitous. Definitely worth seeing, but probably not for young children.
