Not so great on IMAX
by
I love IMAX. Especially IMAX 3D. Hunger Games was not so great on the IMAX, and wasn't 3D (a shame!). Much of the movie is filmed in a hand-held style that isn't at all steady. It reminded me of all the bad qualities of the Blair Witch Project. On a smaller screen this might be OK (although I doubt it--I don't like jerky camera cinematography), but on the large, immersive screen, I nearly got motion sickness from the technique. I got ot the point where I felt like yelling, "OK, I get it. Can you please make the camera stand still for just one minute!!"
The movie itself was pretty good; lush costumes, great scenery, pretty good acting overall. Plus I love Donald Sutherland.
Considering that this is a movie that is playing to packed crowds in extra screens at other theaters, the IMAX only had about 6-8 other folks in attendance when I went--6 pm the Thur after opening. My recommendation: see it on a smaller screen, save some money, and avoid the need for dramamine.
