The Avengers
The movie was fast paced and action packed. There were a few lulls, which put my son to sleep for a short time. About Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury: I was disappointed in this, because it feels like a token gesture in the reaasignment of the character as an African American. In Marvel lore, Reed Richards, Dr. Strange and Nick Fury were all personas of Stan Lee. I'm black, and did not like it when Sam Jones III was cast as Pete Ross in Smallville and when Alicia Masters was made black in the Fantastic Four. They were more props than anything. Jackson's status as a box office star will save him from that fate ( go Mace Windu).
About the personnel aboard the S.H.I.E.L.D. vessel, as my eye immediately noticed that while there were a number of women among the crew, none were black. In fact, other than Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, there seemed to be no one black aboard that ship. I have been in the military since 1987, and you would be hard pressed to find that scenario in any milita
