    Excellent

Gets off track from the book, but that is understandable because of what is being accomplished. There are several changes from the actual book as well, such as at the end wehn the dwarves and Bilbo are fighting the orcs. Also, the term ORC is never used in The Hobbit, only "goblin" is used. Mostly points that if you have not read the books you would never know. But overall a great movie that I thoriughly enjoyed.

    Long but really good

    by

I really liked it for an all around good family movie but some of the characters may be scary for young children. We saw it in 3D and not sure if it was that big of a deal.

    Good movie!

This movie is similar to the book but there are additions that are not part of the actual literary work. This was very close to what was done with Episode !-3 of Star Wars. I felt that the animals that almost seemed to speak was bordering on silly. That did not happen in the Trilogy and kind of diminished the movie in my mind. To add humor to just add it is silly. Graphically, really good and in 3-D it was quite awesome at times. One needs to see this just to complete the whole viewing experience of Tolkien's saga.

    Tolkien beleiver

I greatly enjoyed this film. It added bits from the history from lesser know (and read) books. One must remember this book was really written first and was written for children. Only after Tolkien wrote it and His fellow fantasy authors read it, did they convince him that he had go on an write something more adult. Then that he had to write the history of Middle Earth. I cannot wait to see what other 2 films look like. I believe must people don?t remember early animated film. My! What computers can do now?

    The Hobbit

It was wonderful...We saw it in 3D which I highly recommend. They are breaking the book into 3 installments. I was wondering if I would leave unsatisfied but that was not the case. The acting, the cinemetography...Gollum was amazing! Can't wait for the next installment

    Excellent start to the journey

Peter Jackson once again kicks off another Tolkien classic in fine fashion. Like every book-to-movie translation, "An Unexpected Journey" takes a few liberties yet it's still quite close to the original story. The cast was well-selected and they all give fine performances; it was great that the characters who are in both LOTR and The Hobbit were portrayed by the same actors. The settings are great and, as with the LOTR trilogy, the visuals are spectacular. In short, this movies marks a great start to Bilbo Baggins' journey; one any fan of Tolkien's work should enjoy. An excellent movie!

    Not 3 movies long...

I was a little disappointed at the fact that this movie is going to be in 3 parts when it was only 1 book. I think this movie was good but it doesn't need to be drawn out like this one is going to be. I don't think it was worth to see in 3D either. I think it would have been just as good the regular way

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 3D

    by cmotz

Overall, I really enjoy the Hobbit series, and I enjoy the characters very much. However, this movie was slow in many places, and there are far too many grand, epic battle scenes. You really get anesthetized to the massive grandeur of the ground assaults, as well as the little individual battles in this almost three hour movie. It started to get really monotonous about half-way into the movie, and people could miss whole scenes going to the bathroom or getting popcorn. When they came back, you could just tell them that they missed another battle scene, and they were caught up. The acting is good, and I enjoyed the more light-hearted character developing scenes during the first part of the movie. Additionally, the 3D is cool and I liked the trolls, stone giants, and my favorite was the pale orc. So, it's worth seeing, but you might want to just wait for the DVD, and watch it in segments.

    Good

    by

I thought it was good, but not great. I feel like this movie is much more juvenile than the Lord of the Rings movies, but that is more in line with the book. The only real problem I have is where the movie sacrifices authenticity for a smirk to the audience or as a joke:

The hobbits are infested with parasites?

The Hobbit: An unexpected journey 3D

This movie was a immersion into fantasy. It is an excellent escape from the day to day, into an adventure! I took two of my grandkids, and my son...we ALL loved it. The 3D version was very impressive. Acting, directing, GGI, and script were as close to flawless as it gets! Find comfortable seats; the movie is pretty long. Definitely worth the cost of admission!
Overall, I would recommend this movie to ANYONE of ANY age!
    EXCELLENT!!

Wonderful movie in a freezing cold theatre

The Hobbit is everything we expected and more. A beautifully made film, impressive technical effects, great actors.

The UA Greenwood Plaza 12 Movie Showtimes, on Arapahoe Road, is basically a nice theatre. This is the second movie I've seen there in the last month where the theatre was freezing cold. We all had to keep coats, gloves and hats on during the movie.

Even with a smaller audience, the management at this theatre should make an effort to keep their patrons comfortable. If the decision to keep the heat at below 50 degrees is coming from United Artists or Regal, they should have their heads examined.

I won't be back at this theatre any time soon.

Good viewing, but unmet expectations !

Although I am a fan of Mr. Jackson and of Tolkien's books, I was disappointed in how "The Hobbit" beginning of the story was recounted. I think Jackson should have paid more attention to the actual story line instead of the special effects (which were great, but were an aside and not enough to carry the actual plot and dialogue). I was also disappointed in how abruptly the movie ended, which made me feel like I had just watched a really long commercial only heralded Jackson's start of his next enterprise -- another really long movie -- another park of the underlying, excellent story. Perhaps the next one (since there clearly will be a next one), will be better. Here's hoping!
