    The Hobbit

Very good movie. We know what to expect and it delivers. Maybe a bit long but enjoyable and worth seeing. If you liked Lord of the Rings then you will like this.

    In 3D Must Go

With an intermission I could have watched another 3 hours for the second part. That's my only real complaint. I wish Peter Jackson had just made it one big epic movie. Loved the characters, the scenery and cinematography. In 3D, it was riveting. A must see for Lord of the Rings fans.

Theatre Complaint: Mobile Ticket did not work even with new Fandango scanning device. Theatre staff handled quickly and pleasantly with confirmation number.

    Hobbit, Remastered

    by TomHoag

Both my girlfriend and I enjoyed the movie. Great visuals, good flow. I read The Hobbit several times and I went to the film without any particular expectations. I can see where a book purist would have been disappointed but we're already looking forward to the next part of the story.

Best adaptation of The Hobbit ever

The movie was totally worth the price and lack of sleep for the midnight premiere. It was extremely faithful to the book, adding new dimension to Tolkien's marvelous story-telling. The combination of special effects, computer animation and acting was seamless and believable. The characters were well-developed with lots of back-story to give depth to their role. The riddle scene in Gollum's cave was perfect!

Many have lamented the length of 3 hours. I didn't want it to end! I'm ready to see it again, to read the original book again, to see the next installment. Marvelous job, Peter Jackson! Marvelous job!

    by Barony

This film would be spectacular in 3D!! Ordered tickets online for 3D but had to settle for 2D as Findlay, OH theater had technical difficulties Christmas Day.

    Good Movie

I really liked that it stayed true to the theme of LOTR and it was a good movie. My only complaint was that there were really no good-looking leading men like Viggo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom as in the original LOTR trilogy to hold my interest. It also was slow to get moving, but I think that the second movie will be much better now that the group is well on their quest and the action is beginning.

    The Hobbti: an unexpected journey

I really enjoyed this movie. The special effects are amzing. I had read the book many many years ago and also the :Lord of the rings trillogy. It is exciting that they are going make three movies out of this book. It was interesting to see some of the same faces from the Lord of the Ring in the Hobbit. I thought the acting and directing and filming was excellent. You can't beat the scenery in New Zealand where the movie was made.

    Better than Expected

    by Jemby2

Like many others, I worried about making it in three movies, but enjoyed this first one. Too many long battle scenes, too much falling down, down, down (come on and LAND already!); but the casting was excellent and scenes in Hobbiton and Rivendell felt like old home week. It's been 12 years since LOTR, but Gandalf, Elrond, and Galadriel all look YOUNGER than they did then. The 12 dwarves each get a chance so there is some good character development, and several iconic moments that played out very well.

Martin Freeman (Bilbo) and Richard Armitage (Thorin Oakenshield) do a great job - Thorin as Hero and Bilbo as Anti-Hero; they come to admire and respect one another as they work thru the adventure. I thought the dwarves' impromptu dinner party was funny, and probably fun for the actors. The bad guys were scary, but not too scary for younger kids. I loved Radagast as the ditzy Nature Boy wizard. The Riddle Game with Gollum was excellent; look forward to meeting Smaug!

    Hobbit

This movie was outstanding. The sets, costumes, and acting was just awesome. I saw it in 3D and really was not impressed with that part of it. The movie always seemed a little to dark to me anyway. I certainly wasn't ready for it to end when it did.

    Can't wait for Hobbit 2...

A welcome return to Middle Earth

I loved this so much that my attempt at writing a review is probably pointless. I was already a huge LOTR movie fanboy so this movie was preaching to the choir, and boy did it deliver. I don't know what reviewers who say it was boring or too long are complaining about. I was enraptured every moment, from the wistful prologue, to the delightful character introductions, to the non-stop action of the rest. I can't wait to see it again!

One more note since this review is specifically for the 3D version which I saw: Feel free to skip it this way. Even though it was shot in 3D and it looked fine, I didn't feel like it really added anything. Unless you're someone who MUST see everything in 3D these days, save your money.

    More is More

Hard to justify three 3-hour movies of a book that's about an inch thick, but in this case I think more is more. Cinematography is breathtaking similar to The Lord of the Rings. A friend i went with said that the beginning is slow, but I thought it was essential for future understanding of the characters. There are a lot of dwarves to keep track of! As this is the first in the series of three, you must see it.

Hobbit Unexpected Journey is More Than Expected

    by Chican2

And, I expected a lot. Caveat: I'm a huge fan of the original movie trilogy so somewhat biased, but Hobbit over-delivered for me. My only issue is that I have to wait for the next two.

Took my 9 year old son -

He hadn't read the book yet, sad. But, we sat down at the theater, popcorn and sodas at the ready, the film started and about 5 minutes into it he is asking if we have to stay, "this is boring". Of course I said yes we have to stay!. Ha! Soon the the action started and he was hooked! He sat engrossed on the film until the end.

Very well done. Bilbo's Trolls are fantastic!

    If you're a fan, it's worth seeing.

    by Auros

OK, the film has some flaws. A few scenes feel padded, the score is annoyingly overdone, and many of the dwarves kind of blend together in the background. But the lead performers are good (especially Ian McKellen and Martin Freeman), and the material they've added, filling in some of the backstory of LotR, is handled quite well. If you appreciated the LotR trilogy, this is worth seeing.

A wonderful return to middle earth

Ignore the naysayers. If you liked LotR you will love this. Broad, epic and just enchanting. If you ever read the books some of the scenes will bring a tear to your eye. Jackson captured the spirit and hheart of the stories perfectly.
