O too long expected Unexpected Journey

    by

Beautiful Middle Earth, I would have loved you as well in as many Ds... terrific performances by favorites Gandalf, Gollum (Oscar worthy) and wonderful to see Frodo. The dwarves are valiant, the monsters thundering, the special effects awesome. If I left a character out, it's on purpose.

    The Hobbit

Well, the beginning was long and drawn out. I fell asleep! But the end was fantastic. In between, well, for me, it was one big snooze.

Should have waited until part 2

The movie is at least 40 minutes too long for what is covered and I hated the fact that it is not a self-contained chapter of the story. After 2 hours and 40 minutes of watching Bilbo, the dwarfs and Gandolf traveling from Bilbo Bagins' house to within siight of the dwarf's former mountain home, the story ends abruptly. I would rather have waited until part 2 comes out so as to watch both parts together.

Hobbit is Good But Not Great

I liked the movie but wasn't over the moon about it. If you are a fantasy fan you will lie it. Of course, we all know the story how Gandalf the Wizard tricks Bilbo Bagigins, the hobbit, into joining te dwarves on their trek to take back their homeland from Smaurg the dragon. It helped to read the story sequence in Wikipedia.com before going to movie.

I enjoyed the film. The characters were well done and the super 3D effects were spectacular. In some scenes the image seemed to enter the screen from over the audience making us go "ooh" and duck.

It was a good flick but not in the league of Avatar or even The Lord of the Ring movies.

You should see it and take your kids but read them the brief stor first.

    Horrible!!

    by

A complete disaster. Did not follow story line at all, wrote in and made up parts. Graphics were terrible. Tolkien would be extremely disappointed. Some parts seemed more like video game graphics. Tried to make it too much like LOTRs. Sadly disappointed.

    Very long but well done.

This movie was interesting and well done but sometimes it seemed never ending. I assume they will be making another movie considering the lack of resolution but I dont know much about the book series. See it if youre a LOTR fan or enjoyed the books, otherwise it may not be for you.

The Hobbit - great movie makingq

The movie making and imagination in this movie is beyond incredible. I kept shaking my head in disbelief that someone could come up with the great scenes, scenary and creation of each segment. Not sure if it follows the book but it is one chase and battle scene after another. You have to accept that the dwarfs and hobbit fight in all these battles and not one wound, missing limbs, etc.
The ending is an unexpected abrupt one but good because I was not ready for another battle scene.
Overall, highly recommended but know there are a lot of battles.

One Director to rule them all

Peter Jackson's vision of JRR Tolkien's world takes great technical and literary bounds. Purist of the book will be dis-concerned about changes, but that is to be expected with any book to movie conversion.

Considering myself fair weather fanboy, I did enjoy the movie, the 3D was well done and not in your face (not pun intended) just for the sake of if. The story is drawn out and 2 3/4 hours really did seem to go by pretty quickly.

I think of this like a meal, this first part being the appetizer and now I am am waiting for the meal and finally the dessert. Too bad I now have to wait 2 more years.

In the mean time, for distraction of a couple of hours, this is definitely worth seeing.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 3D

I laughed more than I cried. Stunning graphics and non stop thrill. Plot was a little drawn out at times but if you focused to get the point you understood why they lingered in that part of the story. It was back to action before I became too bored with the plot. For a few split seconds they failed to keep the size of the characters in true perspective but that is to be expected when you mingle dwarfs, hobbits, giants, elves and normal sized people in a normal sized world. They did a good job making everything appear to be proportionate. It is not a children's movie..13 and over is best in my opinion. I can't wait to see the next one...no need to wait through the credits there is no sneak preview.

    Not Bad

The Movie was good but the movie kind of lost me after 30 minutes because I forgot why they started the adventure. What I really hated was how long it was.It was 3 HOURS long. But over all it was between good and bad. I'm DEFINITELY NOT going back to the movie theater to watch it again.

    Not 3 movies long...

I was a little disappointed at the fact that this movie is going to be in 3 parts when it was only 1 book. I think this movie was good but it doesn't need to be drawn out like this one is going to be. I don't think it was worth to see in 3D either. I think it would have been just as good the regular way

    Absolutely Stunning!

We took our whole family to see this long waited movie and were not disappointed. Visually stunning in 3D, almost mesmerizing at times. The movie sticks very close to the book with fantastic dialogue, story background and wonderful acting. Not as dark as the Lord of the Rings but it wasn't meant to be so there's humor in there along with action and adventure. I cannot recommend this movie highly enough. We're all excited for the next 2 movies as well!

    A really Fun Movie

Really loved the characters and the beautiful scenery--the excitement and really loved Bilbo Bagginses!!
The 3 D movie was really blurry in the AMC PalisadeCenter Mall, Nanuet NY. We asked if they would correct the blurriness but never did. My eyes hurt afterwards because of the poor alignment! Was disappointed in the Theater.

Excellent movie, but the technical limitations of digital 3D were obvious

Largely true to the book, excellent adaptation. I had some doubts about the decision to make it into 3 movies, given that the 3 volume Lord of the Rings only rated 3 movies itself. But no padding was evident, so I'll not complain.

I would take issues with some of the camera acrobatics, which actually had me suffering from motion sickness at one point, and were utterly gratuitous. Also, I frequently noticed that the picture would blur badly during fast motion sequences. That looked to me like evidence the digital storage just wasn't fast enough to handle the job.

But all in all an excellent movie, I can hardly wait for the next one.

    Critics are stupid

    by

The only reason I gave this move 5 stars is because 6 wasn't an option. I walked in with a heavy heart after reading the critics weren't all too impressed with it, and thank God I didn't choose not to go see it. It's just as good as the first ones, which were awesome.
