    What was it?

First 20 minutes was so boating that I fell asleep. I was quickly waken and watched the remainder of the show, even as other people left. I wish they had let me sleep. Boring and cartoonish with characters, action, plot that was just not believable. I don't know who this movie would appeal to but certainly not me.

Fast and leaves you wanting more

    by

I don't know when the next installment will be released, I can't wait. I read The Hobbit over 30 years ago and watching the movie brought back a flood of memories from the reading of my first great adventure story. Read it, See it, and see it again.

Must see!!! Love the way they blended the first movie ( fellowship of the ring ) in! I think it made the Hobbit part of the other 3 and not left it out there on its own! Loved it! Will see it again!!!!!!!

    Half a Movie

The audience sigh at the "end" of it was overwhelming... everyone thought it was a complete movie and not part 1 of X.

Very enjoyable you should wait for the DVD's so that you can watch them back to back.

    Well Done!

Yes, it's true, I'm a huge Tolkien fan & have seen/own the Lord of the Rings trilogy. However, The Hobbit/Unexpected Journey was a fabulous, fanciful ride! They played out the story well, used the 3D effects in a way that enhanced the movie, not the special effects and left me wanting more...go see it! Definitely!!!

    Freaking Awesome

    by

My entire family including grand kids are fans of Tolkien, truly a movie you don't want to miss.

But wonder If you or your family aren't into the LOTR that this would even interest you or you'd know what was even going on.

Started a bit slow during the "dwarf dinner" but geared up after that scene.

Thank You for the great afternoon!

Great movie, can't wait for Part 2!

    by

I love what Peter Jackson and his crew have done with this movie! It really is as accurate and true to the book as it could be, given the time restraints on a movie. Perfectly cast as well! I heard a few complaints from some other movie-goers about it ending in the middle, but I knew it was going to be like that. The 3D version is definitely the way to go, and this coming from someone not usually thrilled about 3D.

    Pretty good

    by

It has been a long time since read the Hobbit, so I don't remember all of it, can't say if it followed the book faithfully. While I thought all the Lord of the Rings movies were great, this one seemed just ok. I saw it in 3D, I think at regular frame rate. The 3D added to the beauty of it at times, like in the natural shots of the scenery (overall, scenery was very good - trees, forest) or when the people were interacting, but I thought some of the CGI 3D parts didn't look real, so I was a little disappointed at that. Overall I thought the movie was ok, but I didn't find it as rich as the LOTR movies. Perhaps I anticipated those more, so had more invested in them, not sure, but this movie just didn't seem as rich. I agree with some critics also, that it was too long - the last 1.5 hours went by fast but after first hour I was looking at my watch.

    The Hobbitt

    by donnasb

It was enjoyable but I thought a little to long to get the point across. Also, some fighting scenes were a little beyond ridiculous. They fought a multitude of enemies, repeatedly, fell hundreds of feet, repeatedly, and got up, dusted themselves off and away they went. But, of course, its the movies..

    What were the critics thinking???

I simply don't get the negative reviews for this movie. Are the critics so steeped in their self-important hubris that they can't see the value in a new and provocative technology? These tired old critics remind me of book critics lamenting the loss of the "paper book in my hands." I'm sorry, I'm a published author, and paper books are dead. Get over it.

And the same applies here. Yes, the Hobbit in HFR 3D is jarring at first, and there's a bit more gratuitous 3D stuff than I'd like. (great contrasts between foreground and background to show off the 3D effect) But after 30 minutes or so, your mind adapts, and you find yourself immersed in a fantastical world like none other. And Peter Jackson adapts, forgoing the 3D gratuity and getting back to great story telling and unbelievable scenery. Was the story plodding and too long? NO!! When it ended, I longed for more. Can't wait for the next installment!

They did an excellent job with this and keeping with the books. Yes there were a couple of differences but it was so closely related true Hobbit fans will rejoice! No spoilers here. It's a MUST SEE!

    Sweet movie

I've got no complaints (except it could've use a tad more cow bell). Entertaining every step of the way. Can't wait for the sequel.

Only thing I need to add, is that theaters in NJ have for some reason started calling 3-D movies as "D3" - i bought the tickets not realizing what it meant. I don't' know why they make up random stuff like that (it was AMC), but if you don't like 3D, be warry of random misnomenclature.

    The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

While Peter Jackson did not follow the book to the "T", He still mad eit on heck of an adventure. I found it very interesting and entertaining. If you are a fan of good adventures, you will loveit. If you are a fan of Tolkien, you should go, but know that it has some changes from the original book. I don't know what else you could expect when they make three movies out of a book that was not even as thick as any one book of the Lord of the Rings. If you know that going in...You will enjoy and come out smiling!
