    Disappointing

The movie had a lot of action and heroism. It seemed over long.

Also, it was disappointing since, just as it was getting going, it ended.

A manager at the theater said there were 2 more parts.

    Good

    by

I thought it was good, but not great. I feel like this movie is much more juvenile than the Lord of the Rings movies, but that is more in line with the book. The only real problem I have is where the movie sacrifices authenticity for a smirk to the audience or as a joke:

The hobbits are infested with parasites?

    Nearly perfect.

    by

The Hobbit is absolutely fantastic. Everything I have wanted since I first learned about Peter Jackson adapting the Lord of the Rings to film. I often found myself smiling in the theater and filled with the same wonder as I was those many years ago; when I first read The Hobbit.

    The Hobbit

VERY DISAPPOINTED. Way too long, boring. Beautiful graphics, LOUD battles. As with the "Rings," if you didn't know the books you were lost. My husband says "no way" to the next two. Guess I'll wait for TV. Alas.

    Too much fluff

While I appreciate that some artistic license must be taken to adapt a book to film, they added some randomness and greatly exaggerated minor story lines to make enough filler for this to be a trilogy. I'm kind of disappointed, but as we all know, the movie is never as good as the book. I will still see all 3, but I probably won't purchase them.

    The Hobbit

This movie was entertaining. My 9 y/o daughter wanted to go. Her teacher had just finished reading the book the same day the movie came out. She really liked as well. The 3D was really good.

    Loved The Hobbit!

Oh, I am just so happy that there are more to come!! The movie was fantastic - saw it on the "Big D" 3D screen. The scenery and special effects are once again incredible, they defined the characters and their roles very well - I quickly began to immerse myself in their stories. By the end of the movie I was still wanting more!!

Never a dull moment, and a good watch for even non Tolkien fans.

Over all very good, funny moments sprinkled in tastefully. Strayed from the book slightly to help tie in the other movies but not to the detriment of the film.
I was slightly disappointed in the deviation from the detail of the book where it neednt be done but the non book versed viewer will never notice.

Not sure that the Hobbit deserves the full-on Jackson production

While it has been many years since I first read the Hobbit, which led me to read all of Tolkien's other books, I can't remember so much action taking place so rapidly as in this, the first installment of what is promised to be a 12-15 hour series of movies based on this relatively short pre-quel to the Lord of the Rings.

Hobbit. Great movie. Fits right in with the LOR trilogy

    by

Totally enjoyed. It doesn't follow the book exactly. I still want Tom Bombadil to shop up. Then some added scenes with Radagast were interesting. 3D was worth it too.

    A children's story

    by

The hobbit was awesome! For someone who grow up with the hobbit, you would know that it is a children's story. Peter Jackson did an awesome job capturing the story and keeping it for both children and adults a like. The beginning had a lot of dialogue but that is expected being the first book in the series. If you have children wanting to watch it I recommend eight and above. There are scenes with heads and legs chopped off and death. But there was no blood and gore. The story teaches good lessons of bravery and good vs evil. The hobbit is a wonderful story that started English mythology. I recommend this movie to all sci-fi fans. I hope you enjoy one of the greatest stories ever told. I give it a 4 out of a five stars. I expect a better rating for the sexual since the best part are yet to come.

    The Hobit:An Unexpected Journey 3d

Didn't have to wait in line since I'm just seeing it now. As with the other movies involving" the ring", I enjoyed this one as well. However, I was surprised that I was left hanging at the end. I was ready for the confrontation between the heroes and the dragon. Guess I'll have to wait over the next couple years. The 3D was great, but not the extra charge added to the ticket price because of it. That extra sours my desire to go see any more. I didn't pay any extra when I saw Judge Dred 3D. So this was a rip off. We gave back those glasses for reuse and packaging. OoH for the old days of 3D with no charge and you took the glasses home.

Hobbit is Good But Not Great

I liked the movie but wasn't over the moon about it. If you are a fantasy fan you will lie it. Of course, we all know the story how Gandalf the Wizard tricks Bilbo Bagigins, the hobbit, into joining te dwarves on their trek to take back their homeland from Smaurg the dragon. It helped to read the story sequence in Wikipedia.com before going to movie.

I enjoyed the film. The characters were well done and the super 3D effects were spectacular. In some scenes the image seemed to enter the screen from over the audience making us go "ooh" and duck.

It was a good flick but not in the league of Avatar or even The Lord of the Ring movies.

You should see it and take your kids but read them the brief stor first.

Break out the brush and fix your beard!

    by Bodo

I may be a bit biased but, great story, quest, lots of bad guys, a handful of good guys. What's not to like? Toss in some great 3D with Jackson's eye for a scene and you have a must see! It'll be round two very soon and a Blueray for home when it comes out.
