    Instant classic!

Not quite as dark as the Lord of the Rings trilogy but very good regardless. It still brought back a lot of the feelings the book made me feel years and years ago. Definitely go see it if you read and liked the book.

Peter Jackson Needs a Chill Pill

    by

Can we get an intervention for Peter Jackson? It's too bad he'll never make anything to compare with LOTR, because he's certainly trying hard. Too hard! Ease up a little! The Hobbit starts out all cutesy (yuk), with comical hairstyles and dwarfish hijinks. But once they get on the road and start fighting, it seems like they never stop. The action is frenetic, and a headache-inducing blur in 3D. Then it comes to abrupt end, before they ever even see the dragon. This mess needs some judicious editing, maybe as far back as the script. I didn't think there was enough material for another trilogy, but I guess PJ can stretch the fight scenes to fill the time allotted. There is a BIG budget for Orc costumes, but the Orcs in LOTR didn't feel compelled to speak Orkish and I don't care if they have a language or not. The LOTR cast is back, altho Cate Blanchett looks like she has a ramrod up her.....Maybe her tiara was too tight. I'll go see the next two but I'm already disappointed.

    A children's story

    by

The hobbit was awesome! For someone who grow up with the hobbit, you would know that it is a children's story. Peter Jackson did an awesome job capturing the story and keeping it for both children and adults a like. The beginning had a lot of dialogue but that is expected being the first book in the series. If you have children wanting to watch it I recommend eight and above. There are scenes with heads and legs chopped off and death. But there was no blood and gore. The story teaches good lessons of bravery and good vs evil. The hobbit is a wonderful story that started English mythology. I recommend this movie to all sci-fi fans. I hope you enjoy one of the greatest stories ever told. I give it a 4 out of a five stars. I expect a better rating for the sexual since the best part are yet to come.

Never a dull moment, and a good watch for even non Tolkien fans.

Over all very good, funny moments sprinkled in tastefully. Strayed from the book slightly to help tie in the other movies but not to the detriment of the film.
I was slightly disappointed in the deviation from the detail of the book where it neednt be done but the non book versed viewer will never notice.

Hobbit. Great movie. Fits right in with the LOR trilogy

    by

Totally enjoyed. It doesn't follow the book exactly. I still want Tom Bombadil to shop up. Then some added scenes with Radagast were interesting. 3D was worth it too.

    Critics are stupid

    by

The only reason I gave this move 5 stars is because 6 wasn't an option. I walked in with a heavy heart after reading the critics weren't all too impressed with it, and thank God I didn't choose not to go see it. It's just as good as the first ones, which were awesome.

There and Not Yet Back Again

After the confusing mayhem of the LOTR movies, director Peter Jackson chose an elegiac pace to stretch one Hobbit book into three movies. Eeellleeegggiiiaaaccc, which means slow but with pretty scenery.

Many times, I thought I did not remember scene; of course, I hadn't come across them any of the three times I read the book. A unexpected treat was casting three metrosexual nobbos against type as trolls. A sage choice indeed.

    It goes to Eleventy!

As a lifelong fan of the books and lover of PJ's treatment of the material, I must say it would be hard for The Hobbit to fall short for me. Fandom aside, the movie was beautiful to behold. I wondered about them breaking it up into three and if that meant the films would wind up drawn out or plodding... which it did not. The pace and action was well balanced, the breakpoint was well chosen and the foreshadowing setup the next film very nicely. The cast remains fantastic with Martin Freeman being a perfect addition with his English quirkiness complimenting his Hobbit role just so. I'm very thankful for the consistency between LOTR and The Hobbit, from casting to the look and feel of the film. While Del Toro would have been interesting, he would have certainly made a film that looked and felt different. Overall, I think Peter Jackson has been successful in bringing a beloved classic to life in a "true to the readers imagination" sort of way. I can't wait for the rest!

I didn't read the books but...

    by

I thought the movie was amazing. I loved how they incorporated characters that you already knew from LOTR into this story. To me, it seemed a little to heavy on the CGI, but still, was definitely worth it!

    Nearly perfect.

    by

The Hobbit is absolutely fantastic. Everything I have wanted since I first learned about Peter Jackson adapting the Lord of the Rings to film. I often found myself smiling in the theater and filled with the same wonder as I was those many years ago; when I first read The Hobbit.

    Imagination Revealed

I have read the book. I have also read it to my sons in preparation of it being made. We were ready with high expectations. I found it more imaginative than I expected. The license with story line was good but it is all the imagery that stole the show. I say run to it, do not walk. It is great and best on the big stage of the theater!

    The Hobbitt: An Unexpected Journey

Very disappointing. Very spectacular. Fabulous use of technology to produce wonderful images. However it has virtually no story line. Simply moves from one action scene to another for nearly three hours and then it ends leaving the viewer no where.

    Outstanding!

    by

An incredible movie. Jackson's abilities have grown greatly and it shows in this film. The pacing is PERFECT, the drama riveting, the sets and scenery are spectacular. It is impossible to sit through the movie with a dry eye.

The film feels, moves, and looks more polished than the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The actors all fit their roles perfectly. Martin Freeman is the perfect Bilbo, much better than Elijah as Frodo.

Even if you have not read the books you will be enthralled by this film. This movie surpassed all of my expectations.

The only negative aspect is the wait until we get to see the other two parts!
