The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey 3D

I saw The Hobbit last night and I LOVE IT! I can't wait to see THE HOBBIT 2, this is an awesome movie! Please hurry with THE HOBBIT 2. Thank you. My son and grandson also saw THE HOBBIT with me and they feel the same as I do. It was just as good as the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and added much to the story.

    An Unexpected Nap

I loved the "Lord of The Rings" Trilogy ? so "The Hobbit" was a must see as well.

However, I found myself nodding a couple of times. This is in part due to: my 6am alarm clock, that I'm getting older and the fact that we saw a 12am showing with my 13-year-old son. I look forward to watching it again on DVD to soak it all in.

That said, The Hobbit creeped along at times... and I chalk that up to building the storyline. I did find myself (with the participation of the audience) laughing out loud a lot more at this movie than I did LOTR. The dwarves and their antics lent itself to a more comedic movie.

The movie did not seem as 'grand-scale' or epic as the LOTR - but that's understandable based on the actual story of The Hobbit.

If you're a LOTR fan then you'll be ready to tackle this one (just not at 12am).

    Hobbit

Parts of this movie were very good, parts of it were cringe inducing. It would have been infinitely better to make one movie instead of greedily stringing out and adding things that brought the whole production down. It does not come close to touching the first three movies. Most disappointing movie since Episode1.

High Frame rate really detracts from the film.

    by Jrlowe3

The high frame rate makes the effects look fake and everyone looks like they're in a soap opera. I was really disappointed and almost left the theater twice but decided to stick it out.

    I was really, really, disappointed.....

    A Thin Gruel

With so many tired old cliches and borrowed scenes, this move became a dull bore after the 1st Orc fight scene. The following flood of many more fight and chase scenes made me groan in disgust. If you're looking for anything more interesting than fleeing from and slaying some Orc's, this ain't gonna deliver for you.

Don't Listen to Critics Who Say It's Too Long!!

    by

Saw it at midnight - brought my nephew and 72 year old mother who was not really a Fantasy/SciFi person until we first dragged her to the Lord of the Rings movies when they came out. We were never bored, and learned a lot about the goings-on in Middle Earth.

Pay no attention to critics - they are evaluating this as a *movie* instead of as an *adventure*.

Even so, I had no problem with the character development, storyline, etc. Jackson and his team are again doing a fantastic job bringing everything to life.

If you don't like long movies and aren't into Fantasy, don't go see it. If you like adventures and don't mind being on one for 3 hours, then go and enjoy yourself!

    Five Stars

Excellent movie. I've been waiting for them to make this movie since I first read the book years ago. I wasn't disappointed. I can't wait for the sequel!

    A worthwhile journey

    by jls4707

Just finished seeing the Hobbit -UJ. I really liked it. Usually it is the movie that shorts the book, but in this case it is the movie that expands on the actual content of the book. Side stories and appendixes from the book that flesh out more of the why and when are included and for Tolkien geeks - such as myself - it really makes the Hobbit full of surprises for everyone, even if you have read the book. I truly had a great time - and my advice would be to see the 3D version if you can over the regular type of movie. The effect is like bringing you right into the group with the rest of the heroes.

If I were to offer a slight criticism - the movie is LOOOONG. Small children are going to have a tough time sitting still that long, and honestly myself and most adults will probably have to make at least one bathroom trip. But what makes the movies long are all the additions. Much better when the DVD comes out.

Definitely go see the Hobbit. It is worth the price of a ticket

Over all, it is a good film, just not amazing

    by

Unfortunately, the acting at times seems disjointed and lack luster. The first hour of the film is filled with slow plodding story lines, and acting that seems a little phoned in. With very little variety between characters, it is hard to find a reason to care about or to connect to most of them, much less figure out who they are. The film also seems to develop a nasty habit of wandering so far away from the source material, you are often left wondering if it is even the same story. If you are a purist, be prepared to be disappointed.
Over all, it is a good film, just not amazing.

    The Hobbit

    by

I was engrossed in watching it with it's thrills of action and adventure. However; the ending left me somewhat disappointed wanting more... Since this is in part of the triolgy of "Lords of the Ring" I was expecting a little more emphasis of the total story, and was left a little short.

Outside of that; it had the makings of what could of been a Great Movie, had it added more of the whole story!

    Ignore the 'professional' critics

This was excellent family entertainment, and a good prelude to LOTR. Some audience members complained about the troll scene. I think Jackson did a good job in that scene imitating the 3-Stooges using the trolls. Loved the whole film.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 3D

    by cmotz

Overall, I really enjoy the Hobbit series, and I enjoy the characters very much. However, this movie was slow in many places, and there are far too many grand, epic battle scenes. You really get anesthetized to the massive grandeur of the ground assaults, as well as the little individual battles in this almost three hour movie. It started to get really monotonous about half-way into the movie, and people could miss whole scenes going to the bathroom or getting popcorn. When they came back, you could just tell them that they missed another battle scene, and they were caught up. The acting is good, and I enjoyed the more light-hearted character developing scenes during the first part of the movie. Additionally, the 3D is cool and I liked the trolls, stone giants, and my favorite was the pale orc. So, it's worth seeing, but you might want to just wait for the DVD, and watch it in segments.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 3D

Great movie! A bit different than the book, but leads in from Lord of the Rings a bit to explain to those who haven't read the books. The 3D was great, no crazy things popping out, but great depth. CG is exactly what you'd expect...awesome. Took my 13 year old daughter, who isn't normally a fan of these type movies, but she wanted Daddy time. I worried with the length of it she'd be bored. But she was riveted! During suspense scenes she had hers hands over her mouth! I enjoyed her reactions as much as the movie itself. She now whats to watch the whole series!

Too Much "Story" but a Good Movie

    by

In my opinion, they made too much of a story out of this movie - spent too much time building the story line of the characters. They could have chopped it down and introduced some more action, but the action they did have was stellar and the new characters drew me in. Definitely go and see - this is Peter Jackson's calling; to produce these films.
