It's Great to Be in Middle Earth Again!

I loved it! I'm a big Tolkien fan but the Hobbit is a story that's been with me since I was 6 years old and I'm very attached to it. I love Peter Jackson's LOTR and I think I might love his adaptation of the Hobbit even more. It's great seeing Ian McKellan as Gandalf the Grey again and Martin Freeman as a young Bilbo Baggins is perfection. The dwarf cast are fantastic and it's great to them as more fully realized characters than sketches in the book. Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield is also wonderful, he brings such haughty nobility and yet sadness to the character. Radaghast the Brown is an odd delight. It was also wonderful to see the return of other familiar faces from LOTR. There is one addition to the film that I didn't care for but it didn't spoil the movie for me. It's of lighter tone than LOTR. It's very whimsical, magical, and funny and quite enjoyable. The Riddles in the Dark scene alone is worth the price of admission. I can't wait to see it again!

The Hobbit - Incredible!

What a fantastic movie. I have to say I didn't expect it to floor me as it did. Wonderful effects, scenery, acting...just everything a great film experience can be. I highly recommend seeing this one.

Best Yet!

This is now my favorite of the series, mostly because the characters seem more real, not as flashy and extreme as in the other 3 movies. I also appreciated the humor in The Hobbit: very subtle but with perfect comic timing. My only disappointment was that it ended - - - I could have watched this whole story unfold for hours more. Still, I'm glad to have the next two to look forward to; only wish they didn't keep a whole year between releases.

The Hobbit it worth watching

I will admit that I was a little worried when I heard that Peter Jackson was turning the smallest book in the series into 3 - 31/2 hour movies. This may annoy people who say that it doesnt follow the book series. After watching the movie I realized it was an amazing movie and I will go see it again.

Jackson doesn?t disappoint!!
We watched it in 3D yesterday. I was initially a bit concerned. My fear was, can Jackson do it again? Also, Hobbit was before Lord of the Rings and the story is not so reach (in comparison).
But Peter Jackson proofs (again) that he is a great interpreter (plus Bakshi) of Tolkien mind. He creates visual world with strange, enchanted and funny characters and opens the door for you to walk in. In 3D it makes it even more realistic and magical.
I personally don?t like movies over 2 hours, but in this case (like in ring trilogy), I wish it would continue more.
All actors played very well and the scene in goblin underground kingdom was superb. The usage of special effects utilizing 3D animation is at its best.
As with the ring movies, you are awaiting impatiently for the next chapter..

This movie was amazing! Peter Jackson made a big change using so much more CGI, but it was the best decision he could have made, as the 3D effects had everyone on the edge of their seats because of it. I couldn't have asked for a better interpretation, or visual effects. Peter Jackson has raised the bar!

Tolkien paired with Jackson still a proven combination

I admit I was a bit worried hearing that the Hobbit was going to spawn three nearly 3 hour movies. I was pleasantly surprised that instead of feeling stretched, it felt natural and the time passed before I knew it. The visuals, as always, were spot on and the 3D helped immerse without feeling gimmicky. I loved how it started, tying in nicely with the start of the Fellowship of the Rings. I highly recommend.

MIddle Earth magic!

Don't pay attention to the critics saying this doesn't measure up to the LOTR trilogy. It's great. Peter Jackson has worked his magic again. I didn't expect it to be another trilogy but, that just extends the Middle Earth Magic he's created. If you loved the LOTR trilogy, you'll love this too. Go see it!

It was great. The 3D was fantastic and the computer graphic scene generation is fantastic. There were several times when it looked like the animals were coming right out of the screen. I thought it was pretty true to the story, even if it was a little long. It helps if you've read the book.

Hobbit Fans Must See

The visual effect of this movie was great! Watching the movie was like reading the book again with pictures and sound. Nothing new, but I didn't expect it. The picture was long, but I appreciated all of the content that was included. There is so much in the book that previous movies have left out.

I am looking forward to the next installment!

Good graphics, but confusing storyline

I left the theater after nearly three hours confused about where this movie was suppose to go. If you are not a fan, or have not read the book, enjoy the effects, but don't expect to leave a fan.

Keeps with the spirit of the LOTR films

While I have seen this panned by the critics a bit I felt like the first installment of the Hobbit was pretty well done. like the LOTR movies Jackson did a good job fitting in a lot of background information to help set the story, which is contrary to how most classic book-> screenplay conversions go. Was very happy to see it and look forward to the remainder.

The Hobbit Review

The Hobbit is a very fun movie! It is not as well planned as Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings, but it is a good fantasy about dwarves on a mission to reclaim their kingdom. Gollum steals the show in the riddles in dark scene. It also leaves you on a big cliffhanger at the end, to leaving you waiting for The Desolation of Smaug, out December 2013. The Hobbit is quite an enjoyable experience at the movies!

What a pity Jackson forgot the very things that made the three films of the Ring Cycle awesome: A complex tale told in many many simple layers. If he had, then The Hobbit would have been the mirror reflection of the same: a simple tale told simply. Instead, the movie I saw tonight was gimmicky, with gratuitous and very silly battles going on all the time. No attempt at sense. 40,000 Orcs aganst 13 hero dwarves --and the dwarves won. How? Because Gandalf bounced a light flash in the enemy's eyes and shouted RUN! By the end, he had shouted RUN!! more times than I could count. Things have to get pretty awful to make Ian McKellan look like a bad actor. But Jackson did it! If it were only a silly movie, I might not have been so appalled. But it was worst than silly. It ruined a great story. Jackson could have done otherwise--as he showed in the few quiet, elegant moments of this three hour torment...at Rivendale, in the first Bilbo/Gollum encounter, the flash forward to Frodo. BAD BAD MOVIE
