    A new classic

    by hmoloy

The movie was able to pick up with many familiar seemingly ageless characters in their roles and the movie experience itself is simply fantastic in IMAX 3D. I loved it. In addition the new characters were very compelling. The new Bilbo was a very complex character well acted. If you even passingly liked Lord of the Rings, I am pretty sure you would love this one.

    Loved it!

    by

I read the book a couple years ago and it brought me back to when I read it. Some minor changes, but its a movie! I loved it. So much action, we saw it 3d and IMAX, we were sitting a little too close so it felt like a contestant roller coaster, so had to take off the glasses sometimes. We were 6. All couples, ages 21,33,26 .

    The Hobbit

Great experience. But as always it wasn't the book. Although Peter did the best for what he had to work with(time&money). The scenery was awesome, the characters familiar and the storyline was fastpaced. Now I just have to stay alive another year and a half to see the end(July2014)

    Wonderful, only minor quibbles

    by dbryanb

Three hours just flew by, wonderful wonderful. The scenery was wonderful, it's one of the few movies in 3d that are actually worth the money. My only quibbles are minor. Myself and my family wanted to see a bit more of the Shire and a bit more what it was like to be a Hobbit. We wanted to know about first and second and third breakfast.

    GREAT Depiction of The Hobbit

    by lghoeck

They did a great job - breaking the book down allowed the story be told in full. The story did have a few added scenes NOT in the book - but all in all a true rendition.
It's a shame this wasn't done first. The Hobbit is not the best book in the series, but is essential to the story as a whole. Those who have read the whole series will not be disappointed; those who have not read the books will wonder what it has to do with the trilogy.

The Hobbit is a must see!

    by

This movie is a must see for all LOTR fans. I loved every minute of it, and it was written the way a prequel should be written. The story wove several plots into the main ark making for an entertaining film. It introduced the story and characters properly, and offered foreshadowing for the LOTR movies.

The cinematography was beautiful, and drew you into the journey.

I can't wait to see it again.

    A must see Epic

Peter Jackson did it again! An excellent rendition of this classic story. Scenery, cast, soundtrack, storyline, and 3D filming all well put together. Can't wait to see it again and to see the next chapter.

Good movie for one of my Favorite books

The Movie was a great experience that I was waiting to see for years.
It was pretty long and several of the battle scenes seemed to come out of nowhere.

I still recommend this movie to anyone, but will say if you're a fan of the books, they do deviate from the story some, and mix in content from The Silmarillion to give more stories and length to the movie.

Great Moments and Acting + Way Too Many Pre-Battle Staredowns= An Overall Good Time

I'll keep it short. It's a good time. The best parts of the movie (for me) are easily any moment with Bilbo (Martin Freeman) in them. They do an excellent job of not rushing the scenes. The stuff they add in from the other texts works fine. It is however very disappointing when you see the junk they simply made up. There is more dismemberment shown in The Hobbit than in Lord of the Rings and sometimes they make it a little silly/irreverent. It attempts to be dramatic too much to a level where you begin to feel insulted. For example, there are way too many pre-battle staredowns near the end. It's still a very fun movie and is definitely worth seeing.

    Highly recommended

    by

As a keen fan of the Lords of the Ring trilogy, I was looking forward to The Hobbit. And it does not disappoint. The scale and building up of the characters, where some are familiar and others new from LOTRs is in a similar style or what is the start of an epic journey,

Only point to mention is that for young kids, it may be a slow moving and at well over two hours is not exactly a short movie!

    good for children, i suppose

I found The Hobbit to be way overdone, at least for adult consumption. between the direction, the script, the acting and the score, we're hit repeatedly over the head with things that a subtler approach would convey more effectively. when Thorin yells, "out of the frying pan," do we *really* require Gandalf to complete the cliché in order for us get the reference? (and does a wizard of the stature of Gandalf really have nothing better to do while in full flight from a pack of bloodthirsty orcs, or goblins, or whatever those things were?)

the movie also often challenged (and handily defeated) my powers of suspension of disbelief.

I did get a big kick out of the Rock-'Em-Sock-'Em Robots though.

    Beyond my expectations

I'm a hardcore Tolkien fan...read the LOTR trilogy twice before the movies came out and again after they're release, and I've read the Hobbit twice now.

I had a lot of expectations for this movie given Jackson's stellar work on LOTR...and it did not dissapoint! Jackson did a fantastic job of naturally weaving in additional content and characters from Tolkien's other works to make this nearly three-hour film a well-paced and well-balanced screen adaptation, even for Tolkien purists. Some of the characters new to the screen, particularly Balin and Bombur, were exactly as I envisioned them while reading the book! The humor and action were incredibly faithful to the book, appealing to adults and kids, though some scenes might be a little scary for younger children.

I saw the midnight premiere in IMAX 3D, and I highly recommend the same format to first-time viewers...the visual and audio quality are completely worth the extra bucks!

    Hobbit

    by ram317

Movie started like the book slow. Then you couldn't stop looking at the screen until the movie ended. Just like the book, you couldn't put the book down until it was finished reading. Can't wait until part 2 of the movie. I probably go see it again.

Wow! Be ready to be amazed

    by

I think it might be the 3D talking, but worth the time and effort, stretching one book into three movies is a bit annoying, but I guess it will work.

    Great movie

    by

I would watch this show again, I watched at the midnight showing. One of my favorite parts of the show was the dishes song and the effects of all the dishes flying around. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone who enjoys a good movie
