    Worth Seeing for any fan

I do agree the beginning scenes with the dwarves invading Bilbo's home are too long but the movie is excellent. Overall I would say that IMAX 3D is NOT a must for this movie. We enjoyed the IMAX 3D experience but wish it was Real D because the yellow plastic glasses are uncomfortable and if you adjust your neck for comfort, the image is a bit blurry because you have to look straight on at the screen. I really hate having to wait for the next movie because it ruins the storyline to have 6 months between movies. It means walking out of the theater disappointed because you know you'll be left hanging for a long time. I have given up on a some TV shows that have too long a break.

What exactly is the critics problem?

    by

The critics must have seen a different film, as I had none of the issues with The Hobbit they did. The story was always skewed younger than the LOTR trilogy, and this fits the tone of the original book well, without becoming too disparate from the movies we've already seen. The IMAX 3D version must either not have the increased frame rate or I'm less prone to nausea and dizziness than the reviewers are. None of these books were going to be able to be filmed without extensive use of special effects, yet the New Zealand landscape is amazingly lush and inviting once more. This was never intended to be the next Schindler's List or Forrest Gump, so the critics need to collectively pull the sticks out of their butts and enjoy this film for what it is, a wonderful trip back to Middle Earth, not what it isn't.

    Beyond Amazing!!

I read "The Hobbit" at a young age. This is the first book I remember falling in love with and becoming fully immersed. The first installment of the movie brought back all of those emotions and multiplied them by 1,000.

Masterful execution by all involved. Peter Jackson has officially reached Legendary status. EPIC film. (3D IMAX)

I am not sure the frame rate at this IMAX theater, but I did not experience any ill effects. The 3D seemed very natural. It was not forced or in your face at all. Perfect.

This film may be a little intense for children under 13. I don't recall a lot of gore, but there are lots of fight scenes featuring up close and personal hacking and slashing of CG monsters.

    Hobbits !!

This is an IMAX 3D MUST SEE !!!
There are scenes in the movie where you feel as if you are standing there.
Don't miss the opportunity to see it in IMAX if you have one near you.

Morning shows are definitely less expensive than those later in the day !!!

    Its very good, not great.

As an avid book reader, the departure from the storyline in places and picking up the appendices to write the script seemed megalomaniacal, but it works. My biggest complaint was the nauseating 3D effects, which I will surely NOT be viewing in the future.

Go, but see it in regular theaters.

    Finally Here!

    by ChemE75

I must for any Tolkien fan. Been a gazillion yrs since I read the book, but it follows very closely as I recall, as did the LOTR. Everyone plays their part perfectly and the dialog is easy to understand with subtitles when necessary. The 3D experience is well done - not overly in your face - more subtle while adding depth to the scenes. The riddle contest with Gollum was perfect. Only disappointment is having to wait for the next installment - the almost 3 hrs went by incredibly fast so I was a bit in shock at the end since it seemed to come way too fast.

    Amazing!

    by

I first read the Hobbit when I was in elementary school, and have reread it many times since. I can say that this movie was true to the story, while providing amazing effects and visuals.
The 3D wasn't that impressive, but didn't take away from the movie.

    Great movie

    by

I would watch this show again, I watched at the midnight showing. One of my favorite parts of the show was the dishes song and the effects of all the dishes flying around. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone who enjoys a good movie

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey IMAX 3D

    by

The movie itself was fun and adventurous. However, the IMAX 3D feature is a great idea but theaters should NOT have that front row section for any movie available especially on a IMAX 3D movie!!!! it is way, way too close to enjoy the movie for $34.00 plus treats -- it is ridiculous for that section to even exist. After three hours my eyes were watering from being too close, my back hurt, and I had a kink in my neck -- I feel like I paid top dollar for cheap seats (and I ordered my tickets like three weeks in advance). I feel ripped off by AMC seating arrangements trying to maximize profits and not truly caring about ALL of their movie going fans experience. That absurd front row section should not have to be endured by any movie goer - it ruins their experience. Technically, I need to see the Hobbit again so I can enjoy it without having so much discomfort. Thumbs up for the movie, thumbs down for the AMC IMAX 3D

    Fantastic experience!!

    by

Okay, first off, I've been a dedicated Tolkien fan since I was 13 (a very, very long time ago), so there was no question I was going to love seeing Bilbo come to life on the big screen, just as I loved watching the LOTR movies.

However, despite being 51 years old, I had NEVER before had the IMAX experience, let alone in 3D. Seeing The Hobbit that way was unbelievable! Not only is the movie itself excellent (yet another smashing success for Peter Jackson), but the addition of 3D effects makes it almost indescribably amazing. There are arrows, burning pine cones and rocks coming right AT you! The characters literally jump off the screen, both due to the 3D effect and due to the wonderful acting and cinematography.

Plus, and this is one of my favorite things - there's a lot of Gandalf, as well as a lot of the pre-history that was left out of the LOTR movies (ie: Saruman just at the beginning of his turn toward evil).

All I can say is, if you haven't seen it yet, go NOW!

    The Hobbit

Seeing the Hobbit in Imax 3 D was quite the ride. Great vistas. Huge action scenes.
Insanely death defying camera moves. The almost three hours went by in a flash.

    A Journey worth taking

    by imjtash

I saw the Hobbit last night and I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it due to the mixed reviews. I must say that I really enjoyed the movie. I only read part of the book, but went with those who read the whole thing. They said that a vast majority of the movie was not in the book, but still felt it was incredibly enjoyable. I really liked it. I saw it in 3D and it was actually beautifully done. I'm not a big fan of 3D either, so that's saying a lot. Definitely another great film from Peter Jackson, and makes you glad to be back in Middle Earth.

    Worth the Anticipation

    by

I've read the entire Middle-earth series numerous times, and honestly in my opinion, The Hobbit was the weakest one story wise. With the film(s), they flesh out more of Tolkien's intentions and imagination better than ever. For those of you expecting perfect and exact novel storylines, just stick with the books. They are wonderful as they are, and so are their film counterparts. Tolkien's writing is not for everyone, and the film medium makes him much more accessible.
The Hobbit is extremely well-made, the primary characters (Gandalf, Thorin, and Bilbo) are immensely lovable, but none of the characters fail to amaze!
Go see it, and find out for yourself!!!

    Loved it!!!!

I enjoyed every minute of it, it has more humor and personality than the earlier trilogy, can't wait for the other installments - but I guess I'll have to!!!

A very good start for the new trilogy!

The 48fps 3D technology was indeed better! I like the fighting scenes though very different from Lord of the Rings. The story did stick to the book since there was more time and space for Peter to do so. This one is definitely an epic even if you're not a Tolkien fan:D
