    I need more

The Hobbit was excellent. I enjoyed this movie way more than I thought I would. When the movie was over, I wanted more. Not because it wasn't enough, but because I was wrapped up in the story.

    True to the book!

I really love J.R. Tolkeins works. I'm so happy that Peter Jackson has taken the time to do them right in a movie version. The hobbit I think was very true to the book and real readers this author's work should not be disappointed. However, a hit of a spoiler alert, they did break the movie into two parts though. That I did not expect. I felt like all of the characters were portrayed well by the actors and the special effects were quite good as well. Overall, this movie is a must-go for me.

Tolkein Fanboy Here - Must See for Fans; No so for non-fans

    by

Quick review. Unfortunately they have released the 'Extended Cut' as the main film -- reflective of Peter Jackson's power, but NOT a good idea. Lots of walking across NZ. Endless goblin/orc/troll battles. That being said... I enjoyed it all -- it just doesn't have the same power as LOTR and I don't think will be as loved by the general viewing public.

Also - just see in 2D - I am sure that it would be far more beautiful. Came home and watched the HD trailers after the movie and you lose SO much going to 3D. From now on - 2D all the way (2D IMAX also great).

    The Hobbit: an unexpected Journey

We had been waiting 2 years for this movie to come out and the film did not disappoint. Great job of bringing the story to life. I enjoyed the cast selection, score and character development.

See the Director's Extended Cut Version in Theaters Now!

    by dck1

Two comments overheard while exiting the movie sum it up: (1) "There's no need to wait for the release of the extended director's cut on Blu-Ray; we just watched it." (2) "This was a movie by LOTR geeks for LOTR geeks." Overall, it was fun and good, and I'll watch the next two. But it's a step down in storytelling from the LOTR trilogy. Our group was particularly puzzled and disappointed by some of the screenwriters' changes to some of the scenes from the book, particularly the manner in which the dwarves show up unannounced at Bilbo's house in the opening dinner scene, the way in which Bilbo outwits the trolls who turn to stone, and the deemphasis on the way Bilbo slowly convinces the dwarves of his bona fies as a "burglar." In each instance, the screenwriters' changes were markedly inferior to Tolkien's approach. We could not fathom why the screenwriters thought these changes were necessary to the movie or any improvement to Tolkien's story.

It was wonderful, so glad I saw it in Imax 3D. The only bad thing is I have to wait till NOVEMBER to see part 2. Can't wait for next part. Too bad it was not done b4 Lord of the Rings.

Peter Jackson is a 3D natural

The way this movie was made might not have made sense to anyone not familiar with Peter Jackson's interpretation of Tolkien, and it wasn't a piece of groundbreaking art. But it was a great story, told very true to the part of the book it presented, and it was really really visually rich. I heard a reviewer say Jackson took to 3D like a duck to water, and that pretty much sums it up. It's not your indy arthouse darling, but this film is fun, a good story, and really really exciting in 3D - really worth it to see Jackson's camera artistry.

The Hobbit--the critics were out to lunch

I've seen this movie in every format now partly to see the differences and partly because I just enjoy it. Whenever I've gone with others, even the ones who have not read the books, finds it very entertaining and says the time flies by. By the way I prefer the HFR of 48frames per second despite what the out to lunch critics have said. As I remember, they all panned Fellowship of the Ring for the same reasons they panned The Hobbit. Don't miss this movie in the theaters, because it won't be the same at home.

    by g'mma

aready saw it once on regular screen. Absolutely worth it to see in 3D/IMAX. So beautiful to watch, like taking a trip to another world for a few hours. Great adventure, wonderful tale, beautifully told. LOVED IT!

Much better than people is saying! If you like Tolkien you must go!

True, is not accurate to the book, but is a really good film. If you liked Lord of the Rings, no doubt you will enjoy this one

    Wait until it comes out

This was supposed to be a really great adventure. 3 hours later in an IMAX 3D experience is brutal. The fight scenes were really repetitive. Despite the ending I was left completely satisfied with the genre and characters. My wife kept saying, "I though they had to get the ring to the mountain...what are they doing?" You may enjoy it, but I will wait for the sequel to be released on for home theatre.

    The Hobbit - Not Complete...............

    by

So, it's supposed to be nearly 3hrs - the first 45 to 60mins was previews for other IMAX movies - so much so that at one point we were wondering if we were in the wrong theater.......I love movies - yet I found myself fallling asleep at the beginning of this one - can honestly say that has NEVER happened B4.......The movie stopped way too short of the story - i will not divulge the details but, I certainly felt ripped off at the end.......................

    A Perfect Adaptation

this movie is true to the idea of The Hobbit. The movie set out from the start to differentiate itself from The Lord of the Rings series in tone. Is it 100% true to the books? It's a movie, of course it isn't. However, anyone that loves the books should love this too. It fantastically captures the concept, the very essence of the world.

    The Hobbit

    by willyjj

For fans of the books and the Lord of the Rings trilogy this is a must see. Peter Jackson was, once again, the right man for this project. The cinematography was great. In IMAX 3D you were totally immersed in Middle Earth. The tie ins to the trilogy were good. The additional material helped to fill in the back story and what was to come. Can not wait for Part 2 nest Christmas.
