    Stunning & Engaging

IMAX 3D is well-worth the extra money. Amazing Hobbit movie experience: fantastic NZ vistas combined with storytelling at its finest and the raw energy of elvish combat. Treat yourself to a grown-up, visual hot fudge sundae and go see this movie.

    Well Worth The Wait

Peter Jackson has done it again! The Hobbit was fantastic! I saw The Hobbit in Imax 3D and found it to be worth the extra money. The best thing about Peter Jackson is that he has outstanding vision for what he wants to accomplish with the movies that he directs or produces. He never fails to put his vision to the big screen with an attention-to-detail that is second to none. Peter Jackson has successfully done this once again with The Hobbit. It's too bad that I have to wait a year for the story to continue with part II. In the meantime, I guess I'll have to go see The Hobbit a few more times. Definitely a must see!

    One tough Hobbit

Great movie with a cliff hanger insisting on seeing #2 and then #3 I'm certain. Interesting that the crowd at the movie was well over 30 something. Young Bilbo was a hit.

    Hobbit premiere

Absolutely amazing! LOVED IT! 3D was perfect and not too much... But I honestly blinked and moved my head a few times though because of how detailed it was... Simply Beautiful. sucky part is, and not to be a spoiler, is that it will be basically 1 year to see the Hobbit 2...

    Great movie...

    by ciupyke

With the exception of a couple of scenes with movement too fast for my eyes everything looks great and I loved the story also... The end definitely leaves space for a second part of this story. The effects and design of everything looks out of this world. Great job guys!

    good for children, i suppose

I found The Hobbit to be way overdone, at least for adult consumption. between the direction, the script, the acting and the score, we're hit repeatedly over the head with things that a subtler approach would convey more effectively. when Thorin yells, "out of the frying pan," do we *really* require Gandalf to complete the cliché in order for us get the reference? (and does a wizard of the stature of Gandalf really have nothing better to do while in full flight from a pack of bloodthirsty orcs, or goblins, or whatever those things were?)

the movie also often challenged (and handily defeated) my powers of suspension of disbelief.

I did get a big kick out of the Rock-'Em-Sock-'Em Robots though.

The Hobbit is not The Lord of The Rings - Nor Should It Be

I am a die-hard Tolkien fan, I feel that Lord of the Rings was the best movie experience of all time, and I loved The Hobbit. I think that a key to enjoying the movie is to have appropriate expectations. Not "lower" expectations, just different from Lord of the Rings. LOR is an epic tale that is a mythology unto itself. The Hobbit (I'm talking the book here) is a wonderful tale, but not on a scale of LOR. The movie couldn't (and shouldn't) be the same as a LOR experience. But I thought it was nearly perfect. I didn't mind the few modifications to the story; I felt they were in keeping with the meaning and intent of the original book. Having read the SIlmarillion and all other Tolkien books, I was thrilled to have the depth added to The Hobbit that explains some of the background of Middle Earth. The dwarves often get short shrift, and I'm glad their stories were elaborated. I wasn't bored for a second, and didn't experience some of the IMAX 3D nausea issues. Will go again!

Digital Effects don't make good cinema

After the LOTR trilogy this movie was a serious failure. I went to it with great expectations, but the only thing good about it was the high quality graphics employed. The story was worse than lame. The first hour of the movie is complete garbage. For the first time I fell asleep in a movie. I am extremely dissatisfied. This is nothing but a fairy tale for children.

    Hobbit

Enjoyed seeing the shire. It was what I had imagined from reading the book. Thought movie was beautifully done. Especially enjoyed the 3-D. I-Max Theater made you feel more into the movie.

    Amazing!

There's almost too much to process here, but I'll cut to the chase: I was concerned about the length, the high frame rate, the splitting of the story into three parts, the dwarves whom I at first thought looked a bit goofy. Well, I am here to say that on all fronts my concerns were not only unwarranted, but have all but been forgot. I am not a particularly huge fan of 3D, but I enjoyed Avatar's 3D and was willing to give Jackson a shot here as well. I'm glad I did. What a movie! Where some people complain about the length and have stated the movie takes too long to get going, I relished every moment of the Bag-End scenes. The Dwarves are fantastic, and the whole thrill of the adventure is alive and well.

I can't wait to see it again. Congratulations to Peter Jackson for bringing us back in such a wonderful way.

If you love LOTR you'll love this movie

    by

I'm not sure of it, but I love the development of Bilbo in this move. Also it's starts off very slow but then it's just action packed after that. it's has small subtle clues leading to LOTR. The Golum part of the movie stole the show.

    The Hobbit

    by kpleveq

While the movie lasted over two and a half hours the time seemed to pass very quickly. The movie and characters kept the action moving and there was enough time for comedy breaks through out the movie. The IMAX 3 D effects were excellent. The characters remained thru to their form in the Lord of the Ring Series. Overall I throughly enjoyed the show and would recommend it to anyone who likes fantasies.

    even better in 3D IMAX

    by g'mma

aready saw it once on regular screen. Absolutely worth it to see in 3D/IMAX. So beautiful to watch, like taking a trip to another world for a few hours. Great adventure, wonderful tale, beautifully told. LOVED IT!

    Great

    by baronix

I you are a fan, you must go. If you don't know anything about The Hobbit, then it's going to be long and maybe boring. Loved the characters, especially Bilbo. It has humor and adventure. Can;t wait for the next one.

Loved the movie, hated the 3-D

Anybody else getting tired of 3-D being shoe-horned in to movies? This movie would have been GREAT on the IMAX screen, but the 3-D detracted from the film tremendously. Note that I ssaw this on a "real" IMAX screen, not one of those converted multiplex IMAX jobs with a regular stadium seat theater & slightly larger than normal screen that many theaters pass off as IMAX.

I freely admit a lot of this is just me, but the 3-D only works when viewed "straight on". View it at an angle and you get a slight double image. This is where the problem of an IMAX screen comes in. It's so large I'd find myself turning my eyes to see something 'over there' on the big screen, then I'd get an fuzzy double image and I'd have to shift my head or body to adjust my viewing angle to make the double image go away.

This thing is we'll end up seeing this movie again in 2-D just so we can see it without the needless 3-D getting in the way.
