The Hobbit was worth the wait

    by zebsmom

Loved the move. They were faithful to the book and did a great job with the special effects. They weren't over the top and didn't detract from the story.

    Beautiful visuals and good pacing

    by DudeX

The IMAX theater by Lincoln Center, NYC seem to have trouble displaying fast action scenes smoothly but as for the movie, it had beautiful visuals and kept the story moving without a dull moment.
The scene with Gollum and Bilbo is probably the most memorable part of the movie, but the battle at the end of the movie was very emotional for me.
Highly recommend to watch if you liked the Lord of the Rings, and fantasy movies.

    Worth the Wait

Ahh. A return to Middle Earth after far, far too long away. And once again, ripped back out in the middle of a story, waiting for another year to pass to see the rest. In this world of instant gratification, I'm still gratified, and will wait patiently.
Let's talk mechanics, shall we? This movie was all about the amazing dwarves. Yes, you see Gandalf's momentary blasts of power (Though Ian McKellen is starting to show his age a bit). Yes, our friend the young Master Baggins was a archetypical hobbit. But haven't we seen enough about them in the LoTR series? The Dwarves!!! Delicious!
FInally, we see the GLORY of the dwarves in their element. We see them cast down hard. And we sympathize with them; vagabonds, blacksmith gypsies. This trick of a tale really helps set up the journey better than Tolkein himself layed it out. Gollum was sublime in the riddle scene. Again: Mr. Serkis steals the show with his uncanny pschizophrenia.
I can't wait to see it again. Hope to see you there.

    Hobbit part ONE???

    by kkwong

I read the reviews. I saw the trailers. I loved the fact that I can go see it on IMAX but it is only part ONE??? nothing was said anywhere about part 1!!!
The 3D IMAX experience was ok for this movie. I enjoy the preview from StarTrek 2013 better!
The graphics and the story were great! I missed the lord of the rings so it was nice to see the Hobbit and the gang back to play again. It just needs more things flying at you and more 3D stuff.
Otherwise, was it worth the money and my time. No and yes.

    The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

    Key latent political messages:
    1) Danger of following counsel of naive doves. Scene: Saruman discounting that the signs Gandalf identifies are indicative of any real threat to peace.
    2) Value of individual courage. This is a key theme of the movie with Bilbo not be valued throughout the movie, but in the end saving the day. Defining scene: Gandalf's response to Galadriel's question as to why the halfling - "Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. I found it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay... small acts of kindness and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? That's because I am afraid and it gives me courage."

    A Fabulous Journey

    by rhcoren

My husband and I saw The Hobbit yesterday in IMAX 3D and what a wonderful journey it was. We felt like two little kids caught up in an adventure with 3D surprises that had us both gasping out loud or ducking in our seats not to get hit with something flying off the screen. The cinematography was spectacular and the scenery luscious. It was pure fun!!!

A Great Start to a New Trilogy

It's so great to have Peter Jackson at the helm agian.Jackson and his team have done a fantastic job.In the begining,I felt that the aestheic was a bit different, particulary with the Darwfs. They almost reminded me of Klingons a bit.But once I saw the film and got back into the feel, and spirit of the piece,I started to accept some of the new look and feel. The story was there from the moment film begins.I read the book about 7 years ago,so my knowledge of the plot was there. But to finaly see the book in live action after 10 years of hiatus and countless leagal battles to have it fully realized was phenominal and brought a chill to my neck to know that the material is still in the right hands of the person who helped make this project possible. The best part is that we get to see more of it in the next two years to come and I will be there to enjoy the excitment with the world as together we experience the joy of going back to this beloved saga of JRR Tolkien of his tales of Middle Earth.

    See it IMAX 3D

Visually Stunning and well put together telling of JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit. See it in IMAX 3D if you can. The 7 minute preview and 2 minute teaser of Star Trek Into Darkness is well worth the extra cash.

    The Hobbit

    by vcwicks

Absolutely awesome! An excellent job in keeping the astounding look and feel from the Lord of the Rings. I don't want say much more, to not give away details of the story - a must see for Tolkien fans!

    Great movie for Hobbit fans

I loved it, but I am a fan of the Tolkein books.

My wife was a bit overwhelmed by all the lore. The book was like this if I remember correctly, so the movie was true to the original source.

Setting the story aside, the move itself was spectacular. New Zealand is remarkable.

I don't why it is being done in 3 parts. I think 2 parts would do the job.
I am curious to see how it plays out.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey-IMAX 3d

    by wpelk

I rate movies 0-10 (10 being the best). I'm a pretty tough critic, I rarely give movies a 10. So I give The Hobbit a solid 8 It was really good in 3D and had some good effects, but some of the movie felt like it was part of a video game and then the lighting in some parts was like LED lights, you know, that bright white light. So I gave it an 8 because of the acting and the story. I don't think I'll see the next one in 3D.

    Simply Amazing

For what the movie is based around, a children's tale, it is a amazing movie with great special effects, characters, action and plot. If you are looking to see another Lord of the Rings, stop now, you won't find it. This movie is what Middle Earth was before Tolkien ever penned Lord of the Rings, and Jackson has created Tolkien's image perfectly. It is a simple adventure film, not one to save the world and smite ultimate evil, but an adventure film of finding the heart of oneself and through the thick and thin, finding where oneself belongs. You will laugh, you will cry, you will sit on the edge of your seat, if Lord of the Rings is a 10, this certainly gets a 9.

    Hobbit review

    by boss427

The film was dragged out to 3 differenct battle scenes which to be honest after the second battle they should have ended the film. The cinematography was great. I watch this in 3d IMAX and it was hit or miss for me. Some of the scenes were good but the majority of the film I saw ghost images of the characters to which I did not like. I think I am sticking with 2d for now. They need to tweak more on this 3d technology for me to justify the price of the ticket. The plot/storyline was secondary to the action IMHO.

    Epic!

This was even better than I anticipated it to be, so sooo happy that it FINALLY came out. 'The Hobbit' is one of my all time favorite stories. Saw it in IMAX 3D and it actually made me jump a few times or think someone was standing in front of me trying to get by...lol. Was AWESOME!

    Technology isnt everything

My daughters and I are Tolkien fans, and the movie was disappointing. Not the show on screen, the images are fascinating, it is amazing what state of the art filmaking technology can do. We are fans, so we can live with one line from the book becoming 20 min of movie. But it is just too much show for the storytelling. The dwarves scape from the goblins cannot be pictured as another battle for helms keep. It has become too easy to make heroes into videogame super heroes who fight single handed hordes of orcs. That exagerated action permeates the movie. And ruins it. We would have liked the story, not the video game.
