    The Hobbit

What a luxury to be back in Bilbo's world. A lot of effort is on-screen to tap into many of the characters we all hold so closely as fans, with just enough new ones to push us forward or back as it were. The new wizard is one of the favorites. The 3D on the IMAX screen (the original huge one ... not the new smaller digital versions) was a bit overwhelming. In some of the gorgeous pans of the scenes you wanted to see in detail, it becomes just a blur so you simply could not see them. Otherwise is very effective. Will have to see it again ... without 3D to see what I missed the first time! Gorgeous to see and great fun and a great ride. Howard Shore's score is stellar again.

    Jackson did it again

Anyone familiar with the book, The Hobbit, knew that there would have to be a lot of filler to extend the story to 3 movies. Peter Jackson and crew used the extra material to tell the backstory that leads up to LOTR. As was true with the Ring movies all of the back story is from J.R.R. Tolkiens works.

The genius is that rather than being pendantic or boring the movie does an excellent job keeping you glued to your seats whether you know the story or not. I can not rate this movie highly enough when it comes to recreating a fantastic setting and making it seem real.

See it! We did in Imax 3d and it was well worth the trip!

    Fantastic!

No need to give a long review but I will say the movie, the pacing of the movie, the actors, New Zealand and its amazing scenery is just FANTASTIC!!

    Great movie

A little slow to start but picks up and carries you off. It's an adaptation of the original Hobbit book - very well done adaptation - it meshes the lord of the rings into one.

    Very Good Movie

I would say the movie overall was very good with a lot of action. There were some spots in the film that could be cut out. The acting was excellent.

    Highly recommended

    by

As a keen fan of the Lords of the Ring trilogy, I was looking forward to The Hobbit. And it does not disappoint. The scale and building up of the characters, where some are familiar and others new from LOTRs is in a similar style or what is the start of an epic journey,

Only point to mention is that for young kids, it may be a slow moving and at well over two hours is not exactly a short movie!

    Great movie

After reading some of the reviews, I was expecting to be disappointed. Instead, I thought that it was a great movie. Yes, it was a little long, but it is a Peter Jackson movie. Martin Freeman is amazing as Bilbo. I'm looking forward to seeing this again, as well as the next two movies.

    Surpassed my expectations!

The Lord of the things trilogy is still one of my favorite movies. I thought The Hobbit would be a good movie, but not as good as the trilogy. In fact, it was just as good! Great story, great character development. Suspenseful, funny, interesting, dramatic, and great cinematography and just gorgeous scenery. II saw it in IMAX 3D which was cool, but I really dont feel like the 3D was necessary. Would be just as good in IMAX.

    The Hobbit-3D IMAX

Special effects-- not enhanced by 3D IMAX. Would be just as good in any theater-- or nearly as good on home DVD. Sound is not better-just too loud.

The plot and acting are soulless, preserving none of the wonder and magic of the book.

Peter Jackson & Company Hit Another Home Run

Martin Freeman totally nails it as Bilbo! The CG work is excellent, the cinematography is beautiful, and the story is well adapted and well told. Anyone who loves LOTR or loves epic stories should not be disappointed by this movie. It is the best film I have seen this year.

Fun movie, but no star trek trailer

Liked the movie, but was disappointed that the longer star trek trailer was not shown - that is why I bought the imax tickets, instead of regular tickets.

    Epic!

Not only did this movie have incredible cinematography but it did an incredible job at following the book. Thats what great thing about having a movie in 3 parts, you can follow the book pretty closely. I heard a lot of mixed things about this movie, and I was a little weary myself when I heard it would be 3 movies. I mean the book is only about 300 pages. However, it was definitely worth it and I cannot wait for the other 2 movies to come out.

    Worth Seeing for any fan

I do agree the beginning scenes with the dwarves invading Bilbo's home are too long but the movie is excellent. Overall I would say that IMAX 3D is NOT a must for this movie. We enjoyed the IMAX 3D experience but wish it was Real D because the yellow plastic glasses are uncomfortable and if you adjust your neck for comfort, the image is a bit blurry because you have to look straight on at the screen. I really hate having to wait for the next movie because it ruins the storyline to have 6 months between movies. It means walking out of the theater disappointed because you know you'll be left hanging for a long time. I have given up on a some TV shows that have too long a break.

Every bit as expected...makeup could use work

    by

Another of Tolkien's greats brought to the big screen by Peter Jackson and his amazing team. It was enjoyable all the way through, with wise cracks, funny mishaps, drama, and of course the emotional attachment to the characters. For any LOTR fans, while it won't (and couldn't possibly) recreate the magic of the first trilogy, it's an enjoyable ride for what it is.

    Pros:
Stays true to the book (for the most part)
    Good acting
    Amazing scenery and special effects
    Entertaining throughout

    Cons:
The makeup on some of the characters could definitely have used some work-particularly the dwarfs
A few minor editing details that most won't notice
You find yourself questioning certain aspects of the story as the movie goes on--this is more on Tolkien than the moviemakers

Overall, a great experience, and WORTH EVERY PENNY to see it in IMAX.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey-IMAX 3d

    by wpelk

I rate movies 0-10 (10 being the best). I'm a pretty tough critic, I rarely give movies a 10. So I give The Hobbit a solid 8 It was really good in 3D and had some good effects, but some of the movie felt like it was part of a video game and then the lighting in some parts was like LED lights, you know, that bright white light. So I gave it an 8 because of the acting and the story. I don't think I'll see the next one in 3D.
