    Highly recommended

    by

As a keen fan of the Lords of the Ring trilogy, I was looking forward to The Hobbit. And it does not disappoint. The scale and building up of the characters, where some are familiar and others new from LOTRs is in a similar style or what is the start of an epic journey,

Only point to mention is that for young kids, it may be a slow moving and at well over two hours is not exactly a short movie!

    Surpassed my expectations!

The Lord of the things trilogy is still one of my favorite movies. I thought The Hobbit would be a good movie, but not as good as the trilogy. In fact, it was just as good! Great story, great character development. Suspenseful, funny, interesting, dramatic, and great cinematography and just gorgeous scenery. II saw it in IMAX 3D which was cool, but I really dont feel like the 3D was necessary. Would be just as good in IMAX.

Amazing new stuff mixed with more of the same

    by

Viewed in IMAX-3D: I loved this book more than the LOTR books so I had much higher expectations for this film. That being said, in my opinion, the scenes where the movie stays closest to the book are amazing and like nothing in the LOTR films. The places where Peter Jackson and his screen writing partners take story / artistic liberty are just more of the same. I understand that movies are not books and some story changes may be necessary for time or pacing however I can not understand why Jackson felt it necessary to insert characters into such a well known and well crafted story and also found it necessary to adjust the books timing of events. Also, Jackson's action / battle scenes are identically paced and begin to repeat elements which just makes them uninteresting, predictable and boring. Finally, why this movie was released in 3D is also puzzling as the 3D is flat and becomes virtually unnoticeable mid way through. Still this is a must see for any fan of the book or LOTR,

AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE AND A MUST SEE!

    by

See this movie! I saw it last night at midnight and everything about it was outstanding. The action and special effects are incredible, the acting is top notch, and the tone of the movie is just right. Martin Freeman is easily the best thing about this movie and is excellent as Bilbo Baggins! They couldn't have chosen a better actor for the part. SEE THIS MOVIE! You will not be disappointed it's a very enjoyable and fun thrill ride!

    Technical Beauty

I thought the Hobbit did an excellent job keeping the audiences attention throughout the movie. The use of lots of new types of fantasy creatures was extremely fascinating. I loved the scene with the giants around the campfire. Absolutely hilarious!!

    The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

I loved it! It was all I hoped for from Mr. Peter Jackson.

Having read the book "The Hobbit", as well as the entire "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, this first installment of the Hobbit series has fulfilled my ultimate expectations. Peter Jackson has once again pulled off a masterpiece. I was most impressed wiht the way he told the story that not only satisfied our eyes and ears, but was done in a very respectful manner in honor of Sir. J. R. R. Tolkien original writings, as this was his most favorite bookhe wrote. He would have been very proud.

Great job Mr. Peter Jackson and crew on bringing us back to Middle Earth once again while still providing the fresh ride this great tale deserves. Can't wait for the next movie and we will once again see it in Imax/3D - the only way to see it!

    Hobbit Review

I thought it was a great movie. I've seen it twice already. People need to realize it is a whole different story than Lord of the Rings. I highly recommend this movie for everyone.

    Moron Reviews

I just wanted to make a statement about the previous moron that just takes up space for everyone else. My and everyone else' advice: stay out of review section if you're just going to act like a clown. You obviously have nothing constructive to say and no one wants to hear your ravings. Thank You.

    Wow.

    by Zenak

Worth the 20 bucks I spent o IMAX to see it at midnight per ticket. 3 movies? Did it have to be 3 movies for one book?

    Magnificent Film!!

Martin Freeman nailed it as Bilbo - his performance is more than worth the price of admission!! Add into it everything else - an exceptional supporting cast, incredible locations, stellar special FX, and an utterly timeless story - and you have the film of the year!!

    Beautiful visuals and good pacing

    by DudeX

The IMAX theater by Lincoln Center, NYC seem to have trouble displaying fast action scenes smoothly but as for the movie, it had beautiful visuals and kept the story moving without a dull moment.
The scene with Gollum and Bilbo is probably the most memorable part of the movie, but the battle at the end of the movie was very emotional for me.
Highly recommend to watch if you liked the Lord of the Rings, and fantasy movies.

    The Hobbit: an unexpected Journey

We had been waiting 2 years for this movie to come out and the film did not disappoint. Great job of bringing the story to life. I enjoyed the cast selection, score and character development.

    the Hobbit An Unexpected Journey

    by TVguy2

I read "The Hobbit" in the '70s. It was a pleasure to see this film of the book. It visualizes the story dramatically. The actual images of the monsters here are just amazing. I don't recall the details of the author J.R.R. Tolkien's descriptions of them, but my imaginations could never have invented what director Peter Jackson and his crew have crafted. It is just fascinating fantasy! It will hold your attention all the way.

I look forward to seeing the other parts of the book which are still in production!

The action scenes were thrilling. The 3D experience was at times like being on a roller coaster! Everybody will really enjoy it. I think it would be too intense for small children, but everyone else will really enjoy the ride.

Be aware that this is the first film of three and that an ending to the story is yet to come. I think the book was only two parts.

A great movie for Tolken Fans

I've been a Tolken fan for more than 40 years and this movie stood up to the book very well. This is not Lord of the Rings. If you are looking for the dark action of LOTR you may be disapointed. But if you are looking for an adventure this movie is for you. Tolken was a fantasic story teller and The Hobbit: An Unexpecteded Jourey put the story on film very close to what Tolken put on paper. I can't wait to see the next installment.
The 3D was hard to view at times. Very sensitive to viewing angle. The fastest 3 hours I have ever spent in a theature.

    Entertaining Adventure

I completely enjoyed Part I, and didn't look at my watch once. I've read the book and didn't mind the liberties that Jackson has taken with characters and plot.

However, I would have enjoyed the movie just as much if it had been complete as opposed to an artificial trilogy.
